There are 183 varieties in 10 acres. Explore the display garden with waterfalls, Peonies are available for purchase in bouquets and in potted containers. This is the 10 th Anniversary of this award winning walk. The Albany Peony Walk received both Honorable Mention and fifth place in the 2012 most walkers in the state of Oregon and is the most well attended Fitwalkers event.. Beginning at 621 NW Hickory Street, this stroll takes you through North Albany in Benton County, passing two golf courses and residential and rural farming areas. The 10K passes Thornton Lake, a Christmas tree farm, a hazelnut grove and various other farmlands. Walk begins at 5:00 PM. Arrive early to sign in. Quadruple chocolate brownies, fruit and water served. Sunday Stroll JUNE 24 Shedd 5pm, 5K/I0K - Rated 1A. Arrive early to tour the historic Thompson Mill. You'll see the mill's equipment, a United States flag with only 32 stars, and learn how the Boston Mill Society is working to preserve the properties as a center to interpret the agriculture, commercial, industrial and social life of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The walk starts at 5:00 PM, but arrive early to sign in. Quadruple chocolate brownies, fruit and water served. Build Lebanon Trails Buildlebanontrails.com Sweet Home Community Trails Sweet Home Community Trails, working with BLT, sponsored the Foster Lake Walk in March of this year. 65 walkers came from areas as far away as Eugene. The SHCT chairman, Jon Meier invites you to a work party on the South Hills Trail on May 12, 2012, from 9:00 to 12:00. Meet at Sankey Park at the parking lot near the Girl Scout House (14th and Hawthorne St.) to carpool and caravan over to the trail. Workers will clear brush, trees and blackberry's that have crossed the trail. Bring gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, pruners or loppers. A few tools are provided.

To celebrate the joyous event the club is germinating ideas for a spring walk in Perhaps the traditional (because it was the first AVA event put on by the club) Albany General Hospital walk would be nostalgic or the Jefferson Floral Festival walk for new beginnings. 7 Enjoy the Spirit of Aloha in Hawaii By Rozy Weatherby My husband and I had an opportunity to enjoy the real aloha spirit on a recent vacation in Hawaii and we wish you could also experience it. This state is as awesome as it s volkssport club, the Menehune Marchers. During our 2 week stay on 5 islands, I had a goal of doing all ten walks on Oahu and the two walks on the big island of Hawaii. I did manage to do 10 walks in all, which included a traditional event at Ewa Beach, Oahu. The weather was very pleasant and the sights were unforgettable. Many times the word paradise was spoken by visitors. But it was the people we met who really made this vacation memorable. Ordinary Hawaiians were quick to offer help and directions if we looked the least bit puzzled. One man near the Polynesian Culture Center shared information about the plants in his front yard. We had a sample of cane sugar, guava, and another plant. His generosity was an example of the aloha spirit. Aloha means hello, goodbye and more. The alo refers to your center or your heart. There you will find goodness, love, generosity and compassion. The ha is the breathing out of this spirit to everyone you meet. There is a wonderful book about this called What is This Thing Called Aloha by Robert James. Part of our trip included a week-long cruise to 4 islands. Our cruise ended in Honolulu on the same day that the Menehune Marchers were sponsoring their Ewa Beach walk. Because of delays, we were a little late getting started on the walk. The pleasant people(carol Romig,the club president, Wanda and Bob Wright) at the start point were very helpful and encouraging. We started off on the great walk and several k s later received a phone call. At the time, we were talking to a local fisherman and overlooking the bay. Dennis Romig decided to meet us along the walk and keep us company to the end. We met him just after shading ourselves in a banana grove and watching a mongoose scurry across the path. He shared lots of local information including the fact of his resemblance to the governor! Mahalo thanks to all the wonderful people of Hawaii! There are two more traditional events planned in July and August. July 4th will be their club's 25th anniversary! Hope you can attend one or both seeing the sights and meeting the people.
