Restaurants and B&B Built in 1900 this is considered the best preserved example of a railroad-dependent business in Waseca. The lumber was shipped from Thronwood, WA in 1899 to build the only example of mill construction in southern Minnesota to support 200 pounds per square foot. There are 00 columns and beams. Although trucks superceded trains many years ago, this three-story structure functioned as a grocery warehouse well into the 1990s. In its heyday, the trains would pull up on one side of the warehouse, and horse-drawn wagons from individual stores would pick up merchandise from the docks on the other side. The Armstrongs produced cigars and ice cream, distributed by Blue Jay Coffee. The Armstrongs also ran the ABC Bottling Company. The building was completely renovated in 1999 by present owner, Gene Miller. Waseca County Courthouse 30 NORTH STATE STREET The Waseca County Courthouse was built in 189, replacing a 40' x 0' brick structure. This three-story building, a modified Richardsonian Romanesque, was designed by architects Orff & Jorelman, and constructed of Kasota limestone and Chaska brick by J. D. Carroll at a cost of $, It is one of 10 Waseca County sites on the National Register of Historic Places. As a public building you may enter during business hours. Bailey-Lewer House 401 2ND AVENUE N.E. Built in 1868 or 182 by an accused horse thief, Dayton Smith. The house was sold, and sold again to the Honorable P. C. Bailey, an early hardware merchant in Waseca. Bailey was active in local, as well as state politics. This house is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lewer family lived in it the longest, until The house was restored in 199 by the Waseca County Historical Society volunteers, and it presently houses the WCHS Research Center and offices. Aughenbaugh House Masonic Temple 831 3RD AVENUE N.E. John W. Aughenbaugh was the expert miller and partner at the EACO Flour Mill with E. A. Everett. The residence was built in 189 and stands as an example of th Renaissance Revival architecture. E. A. Everett built a beautiful Victorian home located diagonally across the same intersection at 3rd and 9th. (That house was torn down in 198.) In 1931 the Aughenbaugh home was sold by daughter Daisy Aughenbaugh to the Tuscan Lodge # of the Masons for $,000. R. P. Ward House KATIE O LEARY S BEEF & BREW nd Ave. NE V.F.W. Percy was involved in establishing the Farmers National Bank, was president of the Farmers National Loan and Investment Co., and owned and operated several large farms, one of which was purchased by the Southern Experiment Station, and which is now the University of Minnesota Southern Research & Outreach Center. William R. Wolf House 22 2ND AVENUE N.E. Pine Cone B&B Wllliam R. Wolf, Waseca merchant and businessman, built this house c It is the best example of Queen Anne style achitecture in the city of Waseca.
