9 Presidents Report I have always felt it a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead this fantastic club. Everyone who has even been involved and continues to be involved knows that it is the amazing people who make this club a place you want to spend time with your family. It is our members, players, Committee, Coaches and supporters who are the ones to make it a fantastic club, ones we should all be proud of. Continued member s contribution and time here is making our club s history. I will not deny that taking the role on after a couple of years out was not a challenge, it certainly was, time being mostly a concern. Time is always a challenge to find when you are raising a family, and balancing a demanding full-time job and other community commitments, however at the end of the day, committing to a role at the club you love is worth the extra energy and effort. This year we were lucky to retain most of the Executive Members from last year s Committee, specifically in Mat Kirkby as Treasurer, Megan O Connor as Netball Operations Manager, Sam Beggs as Marketing and Sponsorship, Lachlan Barnes as Football Operations Manager, and Leanne Robb who moved from junior Development to Secretary. I sincerely thank them for committing to these roles, and for their ongoing hard work and support for this club, which is simply amazing. Their support for me personally could never be questioned. In addition to these wonderful Executive members we welcomed a new member to our Committee, Dale Potter who filled the role of Vice President (a new role to the Organisation Structure this year). Dale was a fantastic support to me personally this year and I thank him for his time and sound advice during the year. Leanne Robb in her role of Secretary worked exceptionally hard and never once said anything was too much trouble. Lea has an amazing way with people, her people skills combined with her organisational and planning skills are second to none and she gave so much personally to this club that a special thank you goes to her from me. Lea you have never doubted or questioned the direction I lead and the club focus, you are truly a club professional all credit to you and THANK YOU. A thank you to Tracey Ludeman in taking on not just the Assistant Secretary s role, but also a trainers role this year, thanks for all your support Trace. A big thank you to all our wonderful members and supporters for their support during this season and I encourage you all to be involved again next season as we head into an exciting time for us club in Season This fantastic club is a non-for-profit, community club, one that relies heavily on volunteers and these volunteers need to find additional time in their day and weekends to contribute to the many roles required to be the professional club you all value and love. At times our volunteers find it difficult to find this time and for those who do find that time, I say thank you. I urge and encourage all members to remember that although we operate in many ways as a business, that this doesn t open our volunteers up to the same scrutiny as that of an employee in a workplace. None of us are perfect and we should all be reasonable and forgiving in our expectations on how much one individual can give to a club. We should also be very grateful and thankful for any commitment of any type, in any capacity of which a volunteer donates their time. It was action packed for all our Netball and football teams. It has been fantastic to see how well our new Coaches have been able to pull together their sides for some great wins during the season. Many highlights throughout the year, watching A Grade head into a finals series with confidence and beat Rennie was amazing, sensational effort Karen and the girls. Our Thirds continued to dominate, only falling at the last hurdle in the Preliminary Final, well done to Nick and all the boys, another great year and I know you will continue to develop in pre-season into another great year. Our wonderful boys in the Fourths were able to go to two finals as well, led sensationally by Luke & Rich, well done 8 P age

10 boys, so fantastic to watch you win that first final at Katandra. Our seniors certainly had the potential to go all the way, however were knocked out in their first final, something to build on this season I feel. Well done to Tim and all the players on a great effort during the season. Well done to all Coaches this year, we had a few new netball coaches who did an amazing job with their players and teams. Our football coaches continued to enhance junior development within our club and I appreciate that. Thank you to all Team Managers for your support this year, it is difficult to find the volunteers needed, and to ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed, so thank you. Thank you to all our Trainers, they work from first up in the morning to the end of the day, and have done a fantastic job this year, well done. Thank you to our weekly volunteers who turn up week after week to do roles such as timekeeping, goal umpires, run water or be a runner. Thank you to all those players and members who volunteered their time on the Canteen and Gate each week. Thank you to Valda and Chas who continue to find the time to donate to our club, they are amazing people who are easy to adore, thanks again to you both for your support. This year the Best Club Person Award was rightly award to Steve Ludeman for not only all is his hard work and persistence in seeing the finalization of the new football lights, his continued management of the Auskick Program, but also his continued support behind the scenes. Thank you so much Steve, I thought you were going to have an easier year, but you were just there all the time, so thank you. It was very exciting to see our little Auskickers selected to play at the MCG last month, thank you Steve for organising this day and the special memories it created for parents and Auskickers. Thank you lastly to my family, Nick, Cate and Gabi, who at times question me about spending more time at the club than at home, but understand my commitment and love for this club, and have made it their home as well. I am proud as a past netballer of Dookie to watch my girls train and play netball and develop at the club I started my junior netball. It was such a thrill to see Cate win Most Improved in the Under 11 s! We are a unique club, having specific quadrants in our make-up being Junior Netball, Senior Netball, Junior Football and Senior Football, which is why we need as much assistance as we can again moving into Season I strongly encourage all members to think about a role on our Committee of Management or even just one game day role that helps in the overall scheme of managing what needs to be done to ensure that 8 netball games and 4 football games operate smoothly, both on and off the field. I look forward to being involved into Season 2012 and personally thank you for support of me in the role of President in Season P age

11 Secretary s Report It is hard to believe that Season 2011 is now over, and that we are now turning our attentions to season In re-capping the season that was, I am amazed yet again of just how much this Club packs into a very short space of time. This is only possible because of the amazing, passionate people that invest their time and energy into this fantastic club. As secretary for the first time this season, and without any prior knowledge or understanding of what this role actually involved, it certainly was a case of being thrown in the deep end, but I was fortunate enough to have great support from the people around me. I would like to pay special thanks to Virginia Boyd, Tracey Ludeman, and Helen Ellis for their support throughout the season, and also to Steve Ludeman for sharing his knowledge and experience of prior years when needed, as well as being only too happy to chip in and lend a hand whenever there was something that needed doing. The DUFNC is so lucky to have so many wonderful positive members who get involved and help out throughout the year. The roles within this club are numerous, and peoples willingness to jump into a role week to week ensures it all runs smoothly, and we can t thank you enough for that, it is very much appreciated. Big thanks also to my fellow Executive members Virginia Boyd, Sam Beggs, Matthew Kirkby, Dale Potter, Lachlan Barnes and Megan O Connor. There is an enormous amount of work that each of these members do, to ensure our club continues to grow and prosper into the future, not to mention taking care of the day to day operations, and each of them invests a great deal of their personal time into these roles. Thanks for your support, the great meetings, discussions and debates, and of course all the fun this season Although we didn t quite fill all the roles on the Committee of Management this season, we had lots of people volunteer to do different parts of those roles which was just great. Thanks to all of our Committee of Management position holders for yet another great season, it has been a pleasure working with you all. Another group of volunteers that cannot go un-noted this season for their hard work and commitment to the club is our Social Committee. To Katie, Ally, Callie, Melissa, Kayla, Lauren, Tim, Johan, Brian, and all who helped out with the FANTASTIC social events this year THANKYOU! Thanks for all your assistance with advertising and getting the info circulated to all our members. A big thank you also to all our volunteers who helped out at our Junior Ball, it was a fantastic night for our juniors im sure we all would agree! Highlights for me this season, are many! It was great to be involved in an administration capacity, with the Lighting Upgrade, and seeing the Lighting Project unfold after what seemed like years in waiting. Congratulations Steve on your successful project management, you should be very proud of what you have accomplished. Another highlight was the arrival of our Shipping container for all our storage needs. Thanks to Beggsy, Steve and John Dimitropoulos for taking this item off the wish list and making it happen, and to Frank Kitto for making it look pretty for us. In August we were privileged to be asked to host the Worksafe Game of the Month, with Ambassador Ron Barrassi. It was a huge success, and thanks to all of you who helped put this day together, and who ensured it ran smoothly. Our Club and our members left a big impression on Ron Barassi, and also members of the VCFL who have expressed their sincere gratitude and praise of our club, for our professionalism and our hospitality. 10 P age

12 We also ran a very successful Cadbury chocolate drive this season which raised significant money for the Club. A big thank you to all our members who so willingly sold chocolates, and to those that sold lots of them, It was an awesome effort by all. Proceeds from all chocolates sold have enabled our little Auskickers to travel by bus to the MCG to play on hallowed turf at half time of the Pies v West Coast game, and also funded a bus for the junior trip to the MCG to watch Pies take on North Melbourne. One big thing that continues to impress me about this club each season is its proactive approach to Mental Health programs or initiatives such as the Beyond Blue Blue Round, and its willingness to provide resources and education to members, in such an unobtrusive manner. The DUFNC have been leaders in its response to Cybersafety, ahead of the VCFL s release of its Cyber Safety Policy in March this year. We sincerely thank our parents and junior players who have taken on board all the information we have released on this issue, and who continue to strive to uphold the DUFNC brand in the area of Social Media. Our own Facebook page has been a great addition to our communication methods this year, and thanks to everyone who interacts with it. Hopefully next season we will have photo Album links where you can access all the photos from our Social events! Also special thanks to all our members who have supported our Club Development nights, with special guests such as Aussie Jones, Wayne Johnston, Robyn Smith and John Coutis. I think we would all agree now, that there is no celebrity too big or too small, to introduce to what we all know and love DOOKIE! 13 Treasurers Report I would like to start by thanking my fellow committee members for making the 2011 Football and Netball season a good year to be part of our great club. I would also like to say a big thank you to my bookkeeper Helen, without Helen, my role would be a lot harder than it was. Looking at the Profit & Loss for the season, you can see that our turn over increase from $161, in 2010 to $186, in One major factor to this is the great effects of our social committee, holding a function on pretty much every home game. Our major function for the year the Annual Ball returned a profit of $5, We also had the privilege of hosting Ron Barassi and the Worksafe game of the month, the luncheon itself, not including the gate or the bar from the day, returned a profit of $2, The money from the crop that was planted came in at the start of the season, which was $22, including GST. A big thank you goes out to Sam and his Marketing/Sponsorship team for another great job they have done again this year, bringing in $21, worth of sponsorship; this doesn t include the great work they have done, in getting the club a shipping container. It takes the pressure off the club when we don t have to forgo the big expenses of items like this, great job Sam and team. At the end of the season our trading account balance was $2,288.10, compared with $12, at the end of last season. Our Term Deposit balance as at 4/10/2011 was $29, which has just been rounded over for another 3 months at 5.35%, compared with $39, last year. 16 Marketing/Sponsorship Report With the end of another season, we say a very big thank you to our valued sponsors. Many of these sponsors have been with us for a very long time and it is particularly pleasing to have hassle free negotiations each year. It is testament to this Football and Netball Club that it remains a fantastic club to be involved with across all levels. Players, Members, Supporters and Sponsors all contribute to the success at Dookie and we must all continue to support each other to share in the spoils that will follow. Thank you again to those who contributed financially, or offered their services in any capacity this season. Without this help we would find it impossible to compete in the every changing landscape that modern football and netball present. DUFNC Cropping Update Once again our club was presented with the chance to undertake some winter cropping, and I am pleased to report that the season has been kind and we look forward with some optimism to a fruitful harvest. Naturally enough, a project of this nature doesn t just happen, and many people have helped out along the way. To Steve, Tony and Chris Ludeman, Brian Harrington, Ross Geddes, Chris Payne- Croston, Tom Dickins, Pete O Donnell, thank you for all your input and efforts to get the crop in the ground and growing. And thanks also to Leanne Robb and Steve Ludeman for negotiating the lease and finalizing the agreement. This crop takes a lot of pressure off our club in terms of fundraising and I know the paddocks we are cropping will be left in great condition. I think this cropping project highlights the fact that both parties can really benefit, and it would be great if we could continue to keep this source of income going for years to come. The sharing of the workload and the volunteering of peoples time is something we really need to work on as it is unfair if left to too few. The club will be seeking help with harvest and if anybody thinks they can help with this task, please talk to Steve Ludeman or myself. My sincere apologies if I have left anybody out above. Much of the help goes directly through Steve Ludeman, and I may not be privy to all that happens out there in the paddock. 17 Junior Development Report Each year this clubs contribution to Interleague and representative Football/ Netball is strong from our junior ranks, and this season was no different. Tom Harrington and Sam Tallis joined the U14 selected Interleague side, whilst our U17 players were Luke Hamilton, Zavia McPhee, Ricky O Hearn, Jacob O Connor, Luke Fraser, Jaydan Thewma, Alexis Lucattini and Siro Brana. All players played exceptional football at this level, and big congratulations to Jaydan Thewma who took out the Best on Ground Award at Deakin Reserve. In the Netball Grace Thompson was selected for the 17 and Under Representative side, well done to Grace! Junior Development has slowly embedded itself in the DUFNC culture, and our junior players are given every opportunity to play higher competition levels should they choose to do so. This season we watched U 14 players Tom Harrington, Connor Hayes, Liam Rogers and Sam Tallis all have a run with the U17 side. Under 17 players Ricky Ahearn, Steven Baker, Luke Hamilton, Simon McDonald, Zavia McPhee, Andrew Nicolson and Jacob O Conner took to the field with our Reserves side, and of course Jaydan Thewma and Zavia McPhee were regular picks for the Senior Side throughout the season. It has been a pleasure to watch all our junior players develop their skills and achieve great things on the field and on the courts this season. With the introduction of the Picola & District Talented Player Program (PIF) this year, we have continued to give our young players every opportunity to enhance their skills and development, both on and off the field. Our club hosted the PIF program early in the season which saw junior players put through a series of testing mechanisms used by the AFL in their Draft process. It is always a pleasure to invite ex AFL Players to our club to give our juniors (and seniors) a look at training and the game from a different perspective. Early this season Aussie Jones and Wayne Johnston gave our coaches the night off, taking to the track with our players. A valuable part of nights like these is also to hear from elite performers of their own personal journeys to AFL football ranks, and what it takes to get to that level. On the Netball side, we were privileged to have Robyn Smith join us again this season, who put our players and coaches through some intense training drills on the court. As a club we are very proud of our partnership with Robyn and look forward to seeing her again next season to work with our girls. Junior Development has many different facets, assisting our young players to reach their full potential both on and off the field. As Social Media becomes a major part of our young players lives, its pit falls can quite often be felt in the sporting environment. This season the DUFNC has continued to give Cybersafety a high profile, ahead of the release of the VCFL Cybersafety Policy in March this year. Again we pay tribute and thanks to the many players and parents, who have jumped on board with positive education and awareness of this issue, and who continue to uphold the DUFNC brand. Finally we take this opportunity to congratulate Jaydan Thewma, who was invited to attend Murray Bushranger trials at the end of the season, and has made it through to the final Pre-season cut of 100 players. Well done Jaydan we are very proud of your achievements, and wish you all the best with the remainder of the trials. Congratulations to our coaches who are also an integral part of this process, giving these young players guidance, opportunity and skill development week in week out. 14 P age

18 Club Development Report Pre-Season 2011 set the bar high for Club Development this year, and Gini s vision for the club in season 2011, when High Impact Coaching expert Richard Maloney conducted a workshop with our newly appointed Football and Netball Coaches. The theme of the day was Junior Development, and our Club Coaching Philosophy, and by the end of the session our coaches had shared their vision for the season, shared best practice, and defined their personal, and team goals. This Forum was followed by our very first Parents Forum, which was an opportunity to meet new families, and to discuss volunteering for the many roles that exist within the club week to week, as well as addressing any questions or concerns parents may have. Our clubs greatest asset is its members, and their feedback is vital to the ongoing success of the club. In August this year we again released our Member Survey which gives all of our members an opportunity to provide us with constructive feedback, and any ideas for improvement to our club operations. This season we also welcomed ex AFL Legends Aussie Jones and Wayne Johnston, joined by our local Netball guru Robyn Smith to our club. Our special guests put players and coaches through their paces at training, followed by dinner, and a fast paced and very informative presentation, and memorabilia auction by Aussie and Wayne. In August we also played host to the great man himself Ron Barassi, and the Worksafe VCFL Game of the Month. This day was a huge success for the club both financially and professionally leaving a lasting impression on our guests. And as we looked down the barrel at the Finals series, there was no better guest to have visited our Club than Mr. John Coutis. Johns account of his life, born with a severe disability, and the story of his courage and determination to live life to the fullest was an inspiration to all. 19 Capital Improvements Lighting Upgrade The time finally arrived when our football teams could train under much improved lighting which has been well below standard for many years. We are very lucky to have achieved such fantastic facilities at our club and the lighting project is now the icing on the cake to what is the envy of many clubs, not only in our competition but from visitor s right across country Victoria. Many thanks go to many people who have donated time and materials to the lighting project which took almost three years from the first application of funding to the point we were able to flick the switch on the lights. Thanks firstly to Nick Nagle for the many hours he put in, not only getting the first application in but liaising with council and then putting forward a second application due to our first one being unsuccessful. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Victorian Government through Sports and Recreation Victoria for their huge donation of $60,000 towards the cost of the project. This donation was then boosted by $30,000 by Greater Shepparton City Council to make this project possible, so many thanks to Brendan Gostray and Colin Gleeson for making this happen. Once the paperwork was through with all the relevant signatures, the successful business to do the works moved swiftly to get the infrastructure in place and the lighting installed. Many thanks to Neil Stannard and his crew at Bonnetts Electrical on a job well done! There were a number of hurdles we had to jump while the installation was happening but they took them in their stride and got the work done in the time allocated. A big thankyou to the Recreation Reserve Committee, for their generous donation of approximately $12,000 towards the installation of a new upgraded transformer, which was required to run the whole facility including the upgrade in lighting. Thank you to Rod Sutherland and his family for the generous donation of gravel which was required to cover up the red mud which was dug up during all the groundworks.thanks also to Brian Harrington for his time in spreading the gravel.finally,thank you to Leanne Robb for giving up many hours of her time, and for her knowledge of Local and State Government processes with regards to funding and the project, there were many times, especially in the final stages that without her knowledge this project may not have materialized. The total cost of this project came in at approximately $125,000 and will be enjoyed not only by our club but by other recreation reserve users for many years to come. I am sure that also in the future that these lights will enable the club to hold day and night matches in competition, which will create more interest for this great club. 21 Football Operations Report While we didn t win the big prize in any grades Dookie remains the benchmark football club in the region for professionalism, junior development, family friendliness and great clubliness. Don t bother looking up clubliness it is a word that had to be invented just to describe DUFNC. To the many personalities that make up our membership and in turn make the club thanks for chipping in to make our club such a great beast to be associated with, I hope to see you all (well most of you) back for season You might notice a volunteer theme throughout the report and I make no bones about singling people out who consistently choose to give up their free time freely to help us with our pastime. There are many who put in tirelessly and I ve failed to mention them, I can only apologise for that and encourage everyone to go out of their way to thank any volunteers they see pitching in. Once again the footy department was a well-oiled machine and once again that had nowt to do with me. Before anyone did anything Tony Moylan was marking the ground as he has done largely unnoticed for a lot of years, thanks Tony. Big thanks must also go to the team managers for keeping our team on the paddock, our club clear of fines, clearance disputes and flush with water, boundaries, goal umps, stewards etc. Don Nicholson somehow kept the fourths admin as smooth as Bobby s clutch work even though Don spent most of the time trying to get a mention in the Spectator. Leigh Kildey somehow kept pace with Brownies frantic recruiting, jumper changes and additional awards. Rod Waters cut down several forests to maintain a list of reserves players and wore out several pairs of shoes corralling volunteers to fill the weekly roles. Col Burney not only came to the club as a tip top team manager but not being as cunning as Mr Waters often volunteered himself to some extra roles. Lea, Helen, Tracey and Gini covered my incompetence the rest of the time, I really appreciate the effort you all put in thanks a bunch. I also enjoyed Lea and Gini s monthly footy reports good to know my Footy: nothing to report every meeting would be followed up with a run-down of what was really happening. After everyone had done their thing Col Moylan was washing the senior and reserves jumpers largely unnoticed and definitely under praised, thanks Col, where would we be without the great support of the Moylan s? Speaking of things running smoothly massive thanks must go to the trainers who ensured the players ran smoothly. Lea Robb somehow managed to take on a trainer s role despite already having a workload that would have crippled a Clydesdale. Phil Gall enjoyed his reduced role that at one stage seemed to only involve being Dicko s personal strapper; Phil s experience with the Elastoplast is invaluable and always appreciated. Jayne Thewma joined the battle field medics in another role the Thewma s have added to their weekly repertoire, Jayne has become such a club stalwart in the last two years that rather than MOZ Jayne is still Jayne and everyone calls Zooma SOJ. Klaus s alternative treatments fixed many a chronic case the amount of mysterious circles and pinpricks on player s body s testament to how much the players rely on Klaus s unique expertise. Karen O Connor was almost always the first on the scene as she prowled the boundary ready to spring into action at the first sign of trouble. Tracey Ludeman not only survived her first year in the trainer s role but took to it like she d been doing it for years. Unfortunately John Morris quiet day watching Luke play footy was interrupted a number of times as we called on his immense experience as an Ambo to help with some of the more serious injuries. He is one man we never want to use but are so happy to have around. 18 P age

22 Sib s either loves coaching or hates sleeping in as he took the reins in the fourths for another year bringing Richie Matters in to co-pilot the juggernaut. They were helped each week by Shrek who took on the running and Grant Hayes who was a regular with the flags. I m sure there were others who did their bit Nudge Lewis was always happy to lend a hand but I like a sleep in so am sure I didn t witness the efforts of many more of you. It is easier to sit in the car than lend a hand so thanks for giving the clubs future stars a good start in football. The fourths reached heights no one expected even winning their first final but winning games is not the sole focus in the fourths. Player development is what it s all about and by that measure 2011 was an outrageous success. Across the board from the best top ager to the most timid first timer Rich and Sibs tailored their approach to benefit each individual and it worked wonders. The fourths also took on the lion s share of game day jobs, the club would have ground to a halt if not for the players extra efforts. It is good to see the club is chockfull of great junior footballers that are also great people. Browny stepped from behind Greigy s immense shadow (both literally and figuratively) to take on the top job following a wildly successful stint as assistant. Browny has carried the job with aplomb this year balancing on field success with development of the individuals. Danny Thewma was the new coach in waiting, Danny is still yet to get a FOZ tatt to signify his new nickname but aside from that indiscretion was a fantastic foil for Browny all year. Steve Ludeman was mentor coach for part of the season, and rounded out what proved to be a ringa-ding coaching line up. Kirks attempted retirement from the field meant his brother in law forced him into central umpiring even when (as predicted) his retirement dream was cut short by his love of the game. Rounding out the family feel of volunteers Greg everything s not black and white Brown was waving the flags every week. The thirds achieved some great things in 2011 but unfortunately the year ended early with a prelim finals loss. Development is a massive part of thirds coaching and through a punishing training regime; winning/confident culture and providing opportunities for people to play at higher levels I m sure Brownies brigade have finished 2011 as better footballers than when they started it. Travy and Dicko took on the seconds job which coincidently is the second toughest job in football, the toughest of course belonging to Rodney Eade s phone. Disco swapped the playing strip for fluro disco suit and was a massive help every week, but it will be good to see him back playing next year. The other volunteers much like the playing group was a revolving menu, special thanks must go to regular umpire Buck McPhee, Time keeper Bill Kirkby and regular water girl and water coordinator Michelle Nicolson. Everyone bar her offspring appreciated Michelle s constant volunteering of herself and others. To those of you who failed to show up for rostered duties owe the Nicolson s big time. On field the two s could have done anything but unfortunately didn t wind up with anything to show for the glimpses of potential. Hopefully the old blokes stick around and don t get any slower, the young blokes stick around and keep getting better and everyone gets to training next year because if they do I m sure a two s team at Dookie can finally have as much fun on field as they do off it. Ooze and Dudge completed their second year as coach and assistant coach managing to beat all comers bar those pesky Eagles. Unfortunately the year ended prematurely with a loss in the elimination final but given the evenness of the competition there wasn t much separating us from the cup despite finishing. Most senior coaches spend a hell of a lot of time doing the job but it 19 P age

23 is worth mentioning just how much time Tim and Clint invested not just getting the on field stuff right but helping socially and on improving the clubliness. Steve Ludeman was also on the coaching/selection panel while trotting out the messages and Jimmy Marx rounded out the helm and added his Physio skills on the side. Pauline kept the time every week and seemed to play a pivotal part in some close contests. Frankie Kitto took down the stats and provided advice to some opposition fans. The roster of Thirds running the boundary was great to see and always a massive ask after having already played a tough match of their own. While the seniors and seconds helping out before their game was appreciated. These extra s by the players was a great indication of just how many people are willing to share the load to make Dooks an enjoyable entity to be involved with. In all Dookie weren t far off the pace on field and are miles in front of it off field, so why wouldn t you all be sticking around for 2012, it is going to be massive. Go Dooks. Auskick 2011 The year 2011 has been a very successful year for our Auskick program. We had 15 Auskickers take part throughout the season with attendances almost 100% each night. For the first time our Auskick kids travelled down to the MCG to play a match at half time of an AFL match in front of 50,000 people. Our boys certainly put on a show for their parents and family and the highlight of the day was certainly seeing Sebbie Blackmore do a hand stand in front of the crowd which was not unlike something achieved by the likes of Jason Akermanas.Also our Auskick kids played a number of matches in front of the Dookie crowds at half time of our seniors home games, thanks to the parents who helped run these games and to the parents of the kids for getting your children to these games, I am sure they got a lot out of it.we finished up the program with a pie and presentation night where the kids received medallions for being a half time hero on the MCG.Next year we hope to run the program again so get in early because next year the AFL is really promoting girls into the sport through the Auskick program and it would be great to see a few girls turn up and perhaps show up the boys. Thank you to the club for supporting this program and giving these kids the opportunity to get out and not only learn the skills of our game but to socialize and form new friendships. 35 Netball Operations Report Season 2011 was another successful season for Dookie United netball. All eight teams were again filled with great player numbers, especially in our junior ranks. Our only finals appearance was in A Grade, with Karen and the girls ending their campaign in a close match in the second week of finals. Congratulations to the A GRADE girls on what I feel was a successful netball season. Against the ladder leaders we battled at times but were always very competitive. After defeating Katunga by 2 goals in the final round we moved from 7th on the ladder to defeating 4th placed Rennie in the Elimination final by 6 goals. We gave Tungamah a fright only losing by 4 goals in a hard fought semifinal. Although disappointed with this result the team can be proud of their efforts. All team members worked well together throughout the season and made a real effort in supporting the Club with regard training sessions, game days and social functions. Thank you to Callie Smith (Captain) and Lyndal Hackett (Vice-Captain) for their leadership and support. Well done to Lyndal Hackett coming 5th overall in the league vote count. Well done also to Serrin Gardner for organising Tuesday night fitness sessions. They certainly helped keep all grades on the ball. During the year we had to call on other team members to help us out with numbers because of injury or absences. Special thanks go to Ellie Darcy (17 & under) and the B grade girls. Thank you also to Megan O Connor and the other senior coaches, Mon Tolliday and Kath D Elia, for their input and support. ~ Karen McMullan Our B GRADE Dookie United Netball Team came together with nine players in total. In the beginning we had quite a few players that generally played one position. Throughout the year many players were asked to learn about and take on new positions to stand us in good stead if players were away on holidays, sick or injured. This also lead to more even amounts of game time, therefore strengthening individuals abilities and skills for their future in netball. The girls worked well together, forming good relationships and bonds. They continually put forward ideas and concepts to try during training or on game day. ~ Monique Tolliday A new look C GRADE was most eager for the first round of games to begin in With a strong cohort attending both Tuesday (maybe because the girls were scared I would punish them for not coming to fitness as I took this session, but all in all a great example was set for the rest of the teams!) and Thursday night training s meant that the Scoreboard and Team Cohesion goals we set for the season were realistic. Lauren Nisbet and Kath D Elia (co-captains) led from the front with Mon LeBehen and Elise King spearheading the defence, newcomer Jo Trapani and Kate Poppa dictated the play through the center with Laura Thomson, and fresh to the club this season, Michelle Henry and Skye Humphreys sinking goals down the shooting end. Although the team found it challenging to meet the Scoreboard goals, they did experience a peak (or a win) in Rounds 6 and 13, well done! On the other hand through the troughs the girls were always positive and supportive of one another and tried their best to act upon any feedback to improve their game individually or as a team. A thank you must also go to the handful of 17 & under girls who made it possible for us to take the court many weekends and also have a spell when needed. ~ Serrin Gardner 32 P age

36 A great season from C RESERVE, with many new faces joining the club this year. We had a range of experienced and brand new players who worked well to form a cohesive team. We had a slow start to the season as we taught our new players some of the trickier rules, but by the end of the year we were a polished unit who successfully knocked off some of the top teams in the final rounds and only narrowly missed finals. Looking forward to a flag in 2012! ~ Kath D Elia It was a slow start to pre-season for the 17 & UNDER netballers, with many of the players still heavily involved in Tennis finals. It wasn t until Round 3 that all twelve netballers were available for training and playing, so it took the team another few weeks to find its groove. All 12 players were dynamic, and at about the half-way point in the season, the girls started to gel, play well and really take their training and game much more seriously. Captain Ellie Darcy did a phenomenal job in goals where she normally does not play. Her sheer determination to improve ensured her a spot in the A Grade squad as an interchange player. Vice- Captain Joanna Gall is everything a captain needs to be in that she is always positive and talking on or off court, and is a very big asset for any side. Mietta Innes-Irons learnt to channel her endless energy and use it for good on the netball court, with both Anika O Callaghan and Krissy Hall learning to control their play and front cut! Shooters, Natarsha Gall and Gretta O Sullivan finally managed to stay in front of their players and to put a bit of aggression into their game, as did defender Courtney Lewis who could bound from anywhere and pull in numerous intercepts. Allison Roest was one of the most improved players this year, learning to use her height to its full advantage and jump! Maddison Schultz and Stephanie Sutton demonstrated amazing determination and sportsmanship that any coach would be proud of. Unfortunately Grace Thomson suffered a severe ankle injury early in the season and wasn t able to take the court again, which was very disappointing as she had just been selected in the 17 & Under League Representative team. Every player this year was able to experience a game up in the seniors and each one held their own, giving the Club a big glimmer of hope for the future. The end of the season ladder was not a true reflection of this team s ability and talent, and I believe that if the girls had of been able to have a much more consistent pre-season they would have easily been a part of the finals series in September. There are still a few who are eligible for next year to come back and give it another go, which I hope they do because their potential is enormous! Thank you to each and every player for their effort, respect and sportsmanship throughout a very enjoyable season. ~ Jodie Fleming The 15 & UNDER team had good numbers this year with the five players remaining from last year s premiership team joined by five players who came up from the 13 & Unders and one new player to the Club. This combination took a few weeks to re-position, and there were mixed results for the season with some great wins against strong sides and some disappointing losses. The girls to their credit became a close unit and particularly enjoyed their last part of the season with all girls improving their skills. The improvement in the girls coming up from 13 s was most noticeable and although there was a big step up in speed, agility and strength required at this level they took to the challenge well. It was very heartening to see the team have wins against sides like Shepparton East and Rennie, who were both finals contenders, later in the season. It was a season for dual duties with Melissa Stedman and Ebony Gall taking on the co-captain role and Trish Evans and Lynne Harmer sharing the coaching. Melissa and Ebony were great role models for the team both in their playing ability and leadership qualities. With both coaches having daughters in the team most of the player votes was left to the umpires and we thank them for their assistance 33 P age

37 throughout the season. Congratulations to our Best & Fairest Winner Ebony Gall, Runner up Grace Evans, Most Valuable Team Player Melissa Stedman and Most Improved player Rachael Graham. We look forward to a promising season in ~ Lynne Harmer and Trish Evans This year there was twelve 13 & UNDER players. It was decided after the first few games that twelve was difficult to manage on game day and a roster was adopted to have ten players each week. This was still a challenge as it meant that some players would get half a game. On average we ended up with nine girls per game which was much easier to work with. During the season we had two major injuries Laura missed the first six weeks with a broken arm, and Jordyn injured her knee in Round 12 and did not return to the court for the remainder of the season. Both were missed during their time off court. Over the season the girls improved immensely and gained many skills, although we did not have success on the scoreboard. Some weeks the team appeared to be towered over by the opposition, not surprising as some of the girls were ten years old. The five girls who came into the team from last year s 11 & Under side had a steep learning curve, joining two players new to the Club along with several from last year s 13 & Under team, but took to training really well and joined forces with the older girls, and after not a lot of time together the girls were combining well. Positions were pretty much settled for some girls as this was where the team needed them whilst others learnt the skills of different spots as they played several positions. There were some interesting times at training but overall the girls put in some hard work. The younger girls were certainly focused and willing to listen. All the best to all the girls for their future netball. ~ Andrea Graham The 11 & UNDER side enjoyed their season of netball with coaches Amanda Sutherland and Julie McNiece. It was great to see the skills and knowledge of the game develop within the team through the year, and the improvement as individual players and when combining as a team over the duration of the season. Amanda and Julie incorporated lots of fun elements into training while still working on developing the player s skills to provide a great foundation for their future netball. Certainly some promising signs for the future of Dookie United netball! Thanks to those who helped out each week during the season giving their time, energy and expertise when completing their rostered turn or taking on one, or more, of the following roles enabling all team to take the court each week umpire, scorer, team manager, trainer and first aid personal, setting up and packing up on home games and the numerous other tasks that needed to be done each week. In addition to having the players and coaches available, these roles also need to be filled in order to allow the matches to go ahead and it makes game day run smoothly when everyone willing to help out. Also thanks to all those who supported our teams as spectators on the sidelines. Well done to all players and coaches on a great year. Congratulations to all the players who took the chance, when available, to challenge themselves by playing in a higher grade, in particular the 17 & under players who all played at least one senior game, gaining a taste of the competition level they may be moving into next season. Well done and congratulations to Grace Thomson, who was selected in the Picola League Representative side for 17 & under, a great achievement. Congratulations to Alida Kildey, Renee Wills, Athena Poullos and Michelle Henry for completing the Level 1 Umpiring course, and Jacklyn O Connor who attended the Umpire Mentor session during the season. Also congratulations to all those who began umpiring during the season, it is great to see these people trying umpiring and taking up the support of the Umpire Mentor program within the league.
