Seymour Football Netball Club Inc. President Craig Velt CLUB NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2018 August News Football Ben Clifton and Jason Cole have been reappointed as Senior co-coaches of the SFNC for season We are ecstatic about this announcement and couldn t ask for a better pair to lead our club next year. Ben and Jase have already achieved so much in their football careers and we know there s lots more to come. Great stuff boys and GO LIONS! Meanwhile, coaching positions for the Reserves and Under 18 s have been advertised, as below. $7k draw Held on July 21 st with winners being - $4K = Hayden Heathcote & Sonya Velt $2K = Janine Cole & Noel Moreland $1K = Josh Prudden & Alex McLellan To everyone else - better luck next year!!

It was great to see Jase getting around today after surgery during the week. The report is that it went really well and we wish him the very best for his recovery. We have no doubt that Jase will be tearing it up again in no time. Good luck legend! GAME DAY PHOTOS Each week Wayne Herring takes photos of our football and netball players, some of which are featured in the Telegraph. Wayne has a library of photos from each game so if you would like a copy of a particular photo please contact him directly - stating game, team, jumper number/netball position, etc. Warning please try to be specific with your request, rather than all photos of me!! fireman48@bigpond.com LIONS LOTTO Cost is $20 per week to go in the draw to win $500. There is a draw 52 weeks of the year! If you re interested or have any questions please contact Ann Maree Gregson Netball The 2018 season is quickly coming to a close, with the very real possibility of three of our five netball teams making the September finals series, and our other two teams just outside the race to the finals. Well done to all our netball teams and the band of volunteers who work tirelessly to get though the season. We look forward to September and what it brings. IF YOU BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHEIVE IT GO LIONS Expressions of interest for netball coaching roles next year have been advertised! Details below -

Second netball court Story compliments of Seymour Telegraph State-of-the-Art Facilities July 17, The long-awaited female-friendly change rooms at Kings Park, complete with shower and toilet facilities, umpire space, a kiosk and a first-aid room, were officially opened on Friday. The facilities have been a long time coming for the 200-plus netballers who play and train at Kings Park. Until now, the only place to change was in cars or the park s toilets and any gear had to be left court side. Now netball players, officials and supporters have state-of-the-art facilities at the complex. The $444,927 project was jointly funded by Mitchell Shire Council ($302,000), the Victorian Government ($100,000) and the netball-football clubs and netball association which use the facility ($35,000). The change rooms have been one of the top priorities for Kings Park s Committee of Management for some time. The committee and clubs which use the facilities approached State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes in 2016 in the hope of making the dream a reality. Ms Symes said Labor s investment in the change rooms, combined with the second netball court at Kings Park, which was nearing completion, provided the infrastructure long needed at the facility. Labor recently kicked in $85,552 for a second netball court at the sports hub and we ve backed it up with two new female-friendly change rooms, Ms Symes said. These new change rooms will now provide players with the facilities they need to train and play the game they love. The change rooms will host a multitude of local clubs playing football and netball and make it easier for them to grow their memberships and schedule training and matches. This has been a real community effort, with the clubs, council and I working together to deliver this fantastic outcome for Seymour.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said Kings Park was highly used for the sport, with 14 senior and junior teams calling the courts home and netball played every night of the week at the complex. Until now, hundreds of netballers have had nowhere to prepare for training and game day and have had to line their bags up along the sides of the court and get changed in the public toilets or in cars, she said. Along with the new second netball court, which will be opened shortly, these new change room facilities will further enhance Kings Park as one of the most valued and versatile complexes in the region and will be a major boost for female sport and netball in Seymour. Ladies Pink Ribbon Event A huge thank you to all those who supported our fundraising event. The amount raised for the Cancer Council s Pink Ribbon Campaign was $1,740. We are most appreciative of all our sponsors for the day. Upcoming Events VOTE COUNT 2018 Saturday 25th August at 7pm Street Feast Melbourne are coming to the Den for this year s vote count night 25 August! Sliders, burgers, rolls, croquettes, cheesy potatoes and more! They ll be serving up the goods post senior game and you ll be able to pay as you go on the night. For catering purposes please RSVP either on the Facebook event page or by contacting Lyndel asap!

Check out their website here: VOTE FOR OUR PROJECT! Follow this link to register and cast your vote for a $98,800 upgrade the canteen at Kings Park: Register by following the prompts and entering your name, address etc. You will then need to verify your address by clicking on the link that is sent to you. You'll be able to browse projects by typing in Seymour, which is where you will find 'Kings Park Community Centre Canteen'. You can click on the image to read the description, then you can shortlist three projects and follow the prompts to cast your vote! We ask that all club members and supporters register as soon as possible to help pick our project! Kings Park Community Centre Canteen 40-year-old canteen in desperate need of refurbishment! Kings Park community canteen operates approximately 25 hours per week all day Saturday and Sunday and most Friday evenings throughout the year, with schools utilising it during the week for school sports events. The canteen space is also utilised during the annual agricultural show. Other user groups at the park could utilise the canteen during the year if it was more functional. The canteen has many original fixtures and fittings that are past their use by date and are fast approaching health, safety and hygiene concerns. The Seymour Football Netball Club is the appointed custodian of the Kings Park Community Centre and as such we see the importance of an upgrade to the facility for all user groups

particularly from an OH&S perspective. The community centre is home to a number of user groups including; the senior club which has four football teams and five netball teams, two junior football netball clubs consisting of four football and netball teams each, Seymour Little Athletics club with in excess of 100 members for the 2017/18 season. The community centre supports other not for profit groups during the year. Sponsors and deals worth mentioning Lets get behind the Railway Club Hotel during August to support our farming community who are doing it tough right now. Vale Mrs Aileen O Keefe The Seymour Football Netball Club is saddened by the passing of Mrs Aileen O Keefe. Our thoughts are with Mrs O Keefe s family and extended family, many of whom have been members and huge supporters of our club. Mrs O Keefe is survived by 9 children, 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. On Saturday 21st July the SFNC players wore black arm bands in memory of Mrs O Keefe and in honour of her family.
