MATCH REPORT V HAMILTON a further five in the second half. ACCIES SWPL CUP WINNERS 2018 Hibernian stormed their way to a third consecutive SWPL Cup trophy after demolishing Celtic 9-0 at the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was goals galore in central Scotland with Lizzie Arnot scoring five and Ellis Notley, Shannon McGregor and Kirsten Reilly getting on the scoresheet as well. An own goal from Celtic also contributed to the action. The Main Talking Points There was certainly no shortage of goals in the game. By half-time Hibernian were 4-0 up and extended this by The first goal came only after seven minutes. Emma Brownlie delivered a corner from the right which found Ellis Notley around the penalty spot. However, it wasn t a simple tap in for the defender. Her run had taken her beyond the ball but she managed to adjust and acrobatically fired the ball beyond Kiera Gibson in goal. Ten minutes later and Lizzie Arnot doubled Hibs lead from the spot. A patient move from Hibs led to Kirsty Smith being brought down in the box. Arnot stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to put Hibs 2-0 up. It was not Celtic s day which was made clear within 20 minutes as they conceded a third via a Kelly Clark own goal. Abi Harrison tried to find the run of Chelsea Cornet on the 18-yard line but the oncoming Clark knocked the ball beyond Gibson into her own net. Arnot grabbed her second goal of the game and Hibernian s fourth on 27 minutes. A brilliant ball from Gallacher found Hibs No. 7 on the six-yard line but the forward s initial header came back off the post. Fortunately for Hibs, Arnot was alert and got to the rebound first to tap in to make it 4-0 inside 30 minutes. Celtic came out from the half-time break slightly earlier than their opponents, eager to put their wrongs right in the second half. Shannon McGregor had other ideas. Just three minutes into the second period, Harrison played the ball into the midfielder who took one touch and struck the ball on the bounce right over Gibson into the far corner of Celtic s goal from 20-yards out. A perfectly executed finish from Hibs No.10 was a sign of things to come in the rest of the game as the SWPL Cup holders extended their lead to 5-0.

Arnot had sealed her hat-trick just before the hour mark. The forward picked up the ball on the right hand side, drove inside the pitch, beating numerous defenders on her way, and fired low into the bottom corner as Hibernian went 6-0 ahead. Hibernian substitute, Kirsten Reilly, got herself in on the action as well, scoring a goal in the 78th minute. After her first goal for the club at Easter Road in midweek, the midfielder doubled her tally for the club by heading in Arnot s corner at the backpost to extend the lead to an incredible 7-0. After securing her hat-trick, Arnot wasn t done yet. Ten minutes from time, a long ball down the middle found the forward s run who controlled and finished beyond the onrushing Gibson to give Hibs an 8-0 lead. Five minutes later and Arnot had scored her fifth goal in the SWPL Cup Final. A determined Harrison chased a seemingly dead ball all the way to the by-line and cut it back to Arnot at the back post who didn t get the cleanest of connections but still managed to get the ball over the line and secure Hibernian s 9-0 scoreline. What it means? Hibernian won their third SWPL Cup in a row, after winning the competition in 2016 and It also means that Hibernian have now won the last five cup competitions in Scottish women s football and will be looking to make it a treble-double at the end of this season with another Scottish Cup win. Hibernian have also extended their unbeaten run in 2018 to 12 games. Player of the Match Without a doubt the Player of the Match award went to Hibernian s Lizzie Arnot after a phenomenal performance, racking up five goals in the process. Thoughts from the Camp In his post-match interview, Hibernian Head Coach Grant Scott gave his thoughts on a fantastic performance from his side: It was one of those strange games in that we thought it would be a lot tighter. We started the game so well, got an early goal and that just set the tone really. It s a lot of the movements that we re asking the girls to do but today everything worked, everything came off. In fairness to Celtic, I believe they re a better team than that performance and result shows. The fact we ve produced that performance against them is a credit to the girls. Five goal hero Lizzie Arnot also discussed the team s complete performance in the SWPL Cup Final: It was good, I think with everyone playing so well it was good that we were so dominant. We kept going from the first whistle to the end. Obviously getting four goals in the first half was great and to get that early one in the second half spurred us on even more. It was great from everyone today. Hibernian midfielder Kirsten Reilly was delighted with the impact she made on the game after coming on off the bench: I thought it was a really good game. We dominated the whole time. We were better in the first half. It got easier as we tired them out so in the second half we were just finishing all our chances. I just seen Lizzie s cross coming in and it basically just hit my head. I never knew much about it but I ll take it. Image: Callum Landells

MATCH REPORT V HAMILTON ACCIES Lizzie Arnot was the player of the match in Hibernian s resounding 9-0 victory over Celtic in the SWPL Cup Final scoring five times at the Falkirk Stadium. The winger endured a tough spell on the sidelines throughout the 2017 campaign for the side as she saw them claim a second successive domestic cup double, but says that she is now happy to be back and contributing to the side s success. Although her ruthless five-goal haul has seen her thrust into the limelight once again, the 22- year-old was keen to instead give plaudits to her team-mates. Speaking to Hibernian Ladies' Twitter account, Lizzie said: I didn t wake up thinking that I would be scoring five goals in the final. It s obviously good just to help contribute and the girls who set me up done well, I was just in the right place at the right time. It s just good that I am back and contributing to the goals. To all those who watched, they would have witnessed a fantastic performance from the side in the SWPL Cup Final, claiming the trophy for the third year in a row in the process. Lizzie was, understandably, delighted with the way the entire team played and praised the dominance of the side as they kept a firm stranglehold of proceedings from the first minute to the last. Everyone played so well and it was good that we were so dominant throughout, expressed the winger. She continued: We kept the pressure on from the first whistle right to the end. To get four goals in the first half was great, and to get that early one in the second half just spurred us on even more. It was great from everyone today. I wouldn t say that I ve been involved in a more complete performance with the team. Everyone was right on their game. Things seemed to go right for us and fall into place. I can t think of another performance that has gone as well as that, especially in a final. Thoughts now turn to the challenges ahead after claiming the first piece of silverware in the domestic calendar, with Lizzie saying that the target is to remain the holders of the Scottish Cup, whilst also attempting to prise the 11-year strong grip that Glasgow City have on the league title. She said: We want to keep that consistency up and we really want to push on to try and win the Scottish Cup again and also the league. As a team, it s important for us to keep trying to win trophies, so that s our aim and hopefully we can.

ARNOT, FIFE AND SMITH NAMED IN SCOTLAND SQUAD Lizzie Arnot, Kirsty Smith and Jenna Fife have all been called-up for Scotland s upcoming FIFA Women s World Cup 2019 Qualifiers against Belarus and Poland. Winger Arnot was the star of Hibernian s SWPL Cup Final win over Celtic, scoring five goals in the 9-0 victory as the team secured the trophy for the third year running, and returns to the squad for the first time since recovering from her ACL injury. MATCH REPORT V HAMILTON ACCIES than Kerr s side. Kirsty Smith also played in the game at the Falkirk Stadium and has been named in Shelley Kerr s squad as they attempt to qualify for next summer s tournament after she featured at Euro Goalkeeper Jenna Fife was an unused substitute for Grant Scott s side at the weekend, but has been a virtual ever-present between the sticks this season for Hibernian. She has two caps to her name for the national side after receiving her first call-up in October last year. The first game is against Belarus at the Falkirk Stadium on Thursday 7 June with a 7:35pm kick off. The game against Poland takes place in Kielce on Tuesday 12 June with a kick-off time of 2:30pm (GMT). Scotland sit in second place in Group 2, two points ahead of Poland in third who have played one more game

MATCH REPORT V HAMILTON ACCIES Hibernian defeated Hamilton Academical 5-1 at Easter Road Stadium to move to the top of the SBS SWPL table on Wednesday past. An own goal by Jamie-Lee Napier gave Hamilton a shock lead, but goals from Rachel McLauchlan and Amy Gallacher gave Hibs a 2-1 lead at the break. Second half goals from Abi Harrison, Gallacher and Kirsten Reilly her first in green and white wrapped up the victory for Grant Scott s side. Following on from the 1-1 draw with Glasgow City on Sunday afternoon it was imperative for the team to get off to a good start, which they did as they set about pressing Hamilton, forcing the visitors to defend stoutly. Grant in the Hamilton goal had to make a save from Harrison s effort early on, before she watched a Lisa Robertson effort fly over her bar. Despite the pressure, Hamilton took the lead in a rare foray forward. A pass left Napier isolated and she stretched her leg out to play the ball back to Jenna Fife, but inadvertently knocked the ball beyond her own goalkeeper after ten minutes. Undeterred, Hibernian immediately set about attempting to haul themselves level, as Gallacher headed wide before firing a low effort which Grant was able to save. The deluge of chances kept flowing as Shannon McGregor forced another save from Grant, with two corners following in quick succession. The first, swung in by Emma Brownlie, was headed at goal by McGregor, who saw it cleared off the line and out for a corner. Brownlie again whipped it in, but Siobhan Hunter s headed effort was held onto by Grant. Again, Hibernian swarmed forward as McLauchlan curled a cross into the box for Reilly, with the midfielder heading just over the bar. The pressure continued to swell with the visitors camping in their own half, attempting to stave off the attacking surges from Scott s players. With 30 minutes on the clock, McGregor headed wide of the upright and then fired a shot into the sidenetting a minute later.

Robertson was desperately unlucky not to level the scoring as she volleyed Harrison s cross at goal, only to see Grant touch the ball onto the underside of the bar. Another Robertson effort came close, this time from distance, but a quickfire double knocked the stuffing out of Accies. 40 minutes were on the clock when Gallacher teed up McLauchlan to curl home into the far corner from ten yards out. Within two minutes the lead was taken. Robertson picked out the run of Harrison down the leftwing, and the attacker cross for Gallacher to power a header home for her first of the evening. The amount of clear-cut chances being created died down in the second half, however, a dominant display was still showcased by Hibernian as the side confidently passed the ball around, stretching the opposition defence and holding a significant amount of possession. The pressure told in the 56th minute when Brownlie crossed in for Napier and the defender saw her header prodded opportunistically beyond Grant by Harrison. Before the fourth goal was scored, both Hunter and Robertson went close with efforts. 75 minutes were on the clock when it was 4-1. Robertson crossed in for Harrison who flicked a header at goal which hit the bar, and with Grant stricken on the ground, Gallacher smashed home from inside the six-yard box. The final goal of the evening was scored by Reilly on her first start for Hibernian. The midfielder was alert to Grant pushing Harrison s cross back to the penalty spot and she confidently swept the ball home with six minutes remaining. There was time for one more chance. Lizzie Arnot picked out Robertson with a cross, however, the birthday girl was unable to guide a header into the back of the net. Next up for Hibernian is a trip to the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday 20 May for the SWPL Cup Final against Celtic, which kicks off at 4:10pm. Entry is 5 for adults and 2 for concessions. Hibernian: Fife, Brownlie (Michie, 69), Notley, Hunter, Napier, Robertson, Reilly, McGregor (Cornet, 73), McLauchlan (Arnot, 60), Gallacher, Harrison. Substitutes not used: Reid, Smith, Tweedie.
