2 Welcome! Can I welcome everyone, whether a sponsor, curler, coach or spectator, to the inaugural City of Perth Ladies International with title sponsorship by EDF Energy. We are delighted that this Champions Curling Tour event has attracted teams from Asia, North America and Europe to compete alongside the best Scottish and English teams in a stellar field. This is a first opportunity for the top ladies curling teams to visit the Fair City of Perth, and compete in a town with historic links to the game, on a renowned ice surface at Dewars Centre which has hosted many World, European and Scottish Championship events, plus the highly acclaimed Mercure City of Perth Masters which is also a Champions Curling Tour event. Without our sponsors we would have been unable to organise this competition, so we are very grateful to EDF Energy, Perth & Kinross Council, Mercure Perth Hotel, and British Curling, along with Le Gruyere AOP for their input to the production costs for both television and internet coverage. I must also thank those local businesses who have taken up the offer of individual team sponsorship. I know that we can look forward to an exceptional four days of curling with 9 games being televised live on BBC Alba as well as streamed on the internet. I am delighted to say we have had a great response for the first year, with 20 teams entered into the championship. I would like to give a very special welcome to all the teams competing this year - Canada, Sweden, England, Japan, Norway Russia Switzerland, Germany and of course Team Scotland. Perth and Kinross has great historic links with Curling. The traditional start to each year is the Mercure City of Perth Masters, and with its large delegation of overseas players and supporters, it truly gives Perth an international start to the year. We hope that the EDF Energy City of Perth Ladies International is a great success and becomes established as part of the annual curling calendar, alongside the prestigious Mercure City of Perth Masters. 3 Event Information System of Play There are 20 competing teams, in 4 sections of 5, with a round robin format, followed by knockout play. The top 2 teams in each section following the round robin qualify for the quarter-finals. One round of tiebreakers can be played (Saturday at 2.00 pm) if teams are tied following the round robin. Ranking for tiebreakers will be determined by the total of all 4 last stone draws (LSD) from the round robin games. Teams ranked 3 to 5 in each group will play one further game (Saturday at 2.00 pm or 7.00 pm depending on tiebreaker requirements). 3rd placed teams will be ranked on LSD and 1v2 and 3v4. The same system will be used for 4th and 5th placed teams. Rules of Play The rules of play for the EDF Energy City of Perth Ladies International are the current rules of the World Curling Federation (WCF), including the latest rules on brushing devices. The following modifications apply: In the event of a dispute the decision of the Chief Umpire will be final. All matches will be 8 ends. In the event of a drawn game, one extra end will be played. If the game remains tied then one draw to the button by a nominated member of each team will determine a winner. The team who had last stone at the extra end will deliver first. Turn to page 4 for more information! Therefore a minimum of 5 games for each team is guaranteed. 3

4 Pre-Game Practice and Last Stone Draw (LSD) Teams should be ready for practice ten minutes prior to game time. Teams will toss a coin. The winner of the coin toss has the choice between stone colour and 1st practice/lsd or choice of clockwise or counter clockwise rotation and 2nd practice/ LSD. Practice will be one stone away from home end and one stone back followed by your LSD. Stone Selection During the round robin, tiebreakers, quarters and semi-finals, stones from the specified sheets will be used. For the final game only, teams will be permitted to choose stones from any sheet. Actual stone numbers must be selected and given to the Chief Umpire at least thirty minutes prior to warm-ups. Stone handles will not be changed. Play-Offs The first placed teams from each section after round robin play will get the choice between hammer or stone colour in the play-offs. If both teams had the same placing then a draw to the button will be required as explained previously. Time Clocks This event is going to be broadcast on TV by BBC Alba across the whole of the UK! There will be one live game televised from each draw (with the exception of Friday 1 April at 7.00 pm). The televised games will have time clocks. 32 minutes thinking time will be allowed with no timeouts allowed. Time clocks will be used during all play-off games, again with 32 minutes thinking time. Any televised matches must be a minimum of 6 ends in duration unless otherwise specified (at the time) by the Chief Umpire or BBC Alba. Prize Fund Winner 4,000 2nd 2,000 3rd and 4th 1,000 5th to 8th 450 During the round robin games, winners will receive 100 per win. For teams ranked 3-5 in their sections, there will be 100 for the winners of their 5th games (Saturday at 2.00 pm or 7.00 pm depending on tiebreaker requirements). 4
