With the win at Hinkle Fieldhouse, Georgetown improved to overall with a 5-9 record in BIG EAST play. Derrickson s 27, bolstered by 11-of-13 shooting including a perfect 3-for-3 effort from beyond the arc, tied his career high that he set earlier this season at home against St. John s. Graduate student Trey Dickerson poured in 18 points, his best effort at Georgetown, while junior center Jessie Govan tallied his 12th double-double of the season with 17 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Jamorko Pickett rounded out those in double figures with 10 points of his own. Georgetown shot 58.8 percent for the game, including a 47.1 mark from 3-point land. The Hoyas outrebounded the Bulldogs, DERRICKSON S 3-POINTER LIFTS THE HOYAS PAST SETON HALL With the game tied, and a one-second difference between the game and shot clock, Jagan Mosely found an open Marcus Derrickson on the perimeter as the junior nailed a 3-pointer with just 4.5 seconds left in the game. The shot sealed the Georgetown men s basketball victory over the visiting Seton Hall University Pirates. Derrickson led the Hoyas with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a career-high 18 rebounds, tallying his sixth double-double of the season. Derrickson s 18 boards was the most for a Hoya since Bradley Hayes grabbed 18 against UNC Asheville during the season. Derrickson led a trio in double figures as freshman Jamorko Pickett chipped in 18 points of his own and junior center Jessie Govan added 11. Govan added seven boards while Pickett recorded two of GU s three blocks on the day. Georgetown shot 51.6 percent for the game, on 32-of-62 shooting, while also managing 22 assists. The Hoyas were narrowly outrebounded by the Pirates, 36-35, just the fourth team this season to achieve that feat. NEXT UP The Hoyas host Providence on February 24 and Marquette on February 26. They conclude the regular season at Villanova on March 3. 5

Named after Hall of Famer, three-time NCAA champion, six-time NBA champion and six-nba MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the yearly award recognizes the top center in Division I men s college basketball. A national committee consisting of top college basketball personnel selected the 20 preseason candidates. The Abdul-Jabbar Award Committee will narrow down its candidates to 10 by mid-february, with the five finalists announced in March. The winner of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be crowned at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show on Friday, April 6 in Los Angeles, Calif. (noon), against Creighton on Saturday, Jan. 6 (noon), against St. John s on Saturday, Jan. 20 (noon) and against Providence on Saturday, Feb. 24 (noon). Schools will award certificates based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement, acknowledging students who demonstrate excellent or improved attendance; scheduling special events and awards; and recognizing students and schools that demonstrate progress in reducing student absenteeism or tardiness. IN THE NBA When the National Basketball Association season started, several former Georgetown men s basketball players were on rosters for the season. Former Hoya All-American Otto Porter Jr., the 2013BIG EAST Player of the Year and the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft (Washington Wizards), began his fifth season as a professional in DC. Another former All-American, Greg Monroe, is currently with the Boston Celtics. He started his career with the Detroit Pistons in Former BIG EAST Player of the Year and All-American Jeff Green plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. 12 PATRICK EWING HEAD COACH FIRST SEASON GEORGETOWN C 85 Georgetown University announced on April 3, 2017 that Patrick Ewing (C 85) was named its new head men s basketball coach. Ewing comes back to Georgetown after serving for 15 years as an assistant head coach in the NBA. He served as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards ( ), Houston Rockets ( ) and Orlando Magic ( ) and most recently as the associate head coach for the Charlotte Hornets. Ewing is recognized as the greatest men s basketball player to ever don the Blue & Gray. He was selected as one of the top 50 players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Ewing was a three-time consensus First Team All-America selection (1983, 1984, 1985) on the Hilltop, leading the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and the 1984 National Championship title. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1984 NCAA Championships. His play propelled Georgetown into one of the most respected basketball programs in the country. During his illustrious career, Ewing had the opportunity to play for, and coach, alongside some of the great coaches in basketball, including Pat Riley (New York Knicks), Jeff Van Gundy (Knicks, Houston Rockets), Stan Van Gundy (Orlando Magic), Tom Thibodeau (Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves) and Steve Clifford (Charlotte). He was the first pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and went on to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1986 with the New York Knicks after averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Ewing scored 24,815 points during his 17-year NBA career to go along with 11,607 rebounds. Ewing spent 15 years with the Knicks and made 10-consecutive NBA All-Star appearances. Ewing averaged 21.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.45 blocks in 1,183 career games and was a member of the NBA s 50th Anniversary Team. He remains the New York Knicks all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and field goals made. He still stands second all-time in scoring at Georgetown, averaging 15.3 points in 143 games. He is one of only four players in program history to score at least 2,000 points (2,184). Ewing is the all-time leader in total rebounds (1,316), blocked shots (493) and games played (143).
