4 Mini Club Day at HTMS has a special guest Miss Trussville 2016, Cassidy Jacks visits with the Pageant Prep Club HTMS Art I by Miller M., grade 7 This week in art we learned how to weave. Mrs. Bloodworth taught us the different parts of weaving. They are the loom, weft, warp, and the shuttle. After that we started to weave. We put our string and yarn on the loom and we started weaving out wefts and warps with our shuttles. For the rest of the week we kept on weaving. We had a choice to turn in our weaving for a grade or we could keep our weavings. On Wednesday, Mrs. Bloodworth taught us how to take our weavings off of our looms. 5 HTMS Students participate in Anti-bullying Event The HTMS library aides read Dr. Suess book The Sneeches to Mrs. Milton s Anti-bullying club and Mrs. Rebman s student s. Students also made stars for a display and signed a copy of The Sneeches, to donate to Mrs. Rebman s classroom. "The Sneetches" (Book Background) The first story in the collection tells of a group of yellow creatures called Sneetches, some of whom have a green star on their bellies. At the beginning of the story, Sneetches with stars discriminate against and shun those without. A mischievously scheming salesman named Sylvester McMonkey McBean (calling himself the Fix-It-Up Chappie) appears and offers the Sneetches without stars the chance to get them with his Star-On machine, for three dollars. The treatment is instantly popular, but this upsets the original star-bellied Sneetches, as they are in danger of losing their special status. McBean then tells them about his Star-Off machine, costing ten dollars, and the Sneetches who originally had stars happily pay the money to have them removed in order to remain special. However, McBean does not share the prejudices of the Sneetches, and allows the recently starred Sneetches through this machine as well. Ultimately this escalates, with the Sneetches running from one machine to the next. "...until neither the Plain nor the Star-Bellies knew whether this one was that one... or that one was this one... or which one was what one... or what one was who." This continues until the Sneetches are penniless and McBean departs as a rich man, amused by their folly. Despite his assertion that "you can't teach a Sneetch", the Sneetches learn from this experience that neither plain-belly nor star-belly Sneetches are superior, and they are able to get along and become friends. "The Sneetches" was intended by Seuss as a satire of discrimination between races and cultures, and was specifically inspired by his opposition to antisemitism. [4]

6 Way to go Ms. Lewis, HTMS Band Director. Ms. Lewis served as a demonstrator for a clinic on teaching flute in Chicago. Science Teachers Collaborate Secondary Curriculum Coordinator, Dr. Jennifer Cardwell, facilitated vertical teaming between HTMS and HTHS science teachers. New science standards have recently been adopted by the State Department of Education and will be put into place during the school year. Piet Mondrian, known for his avant-garde Cubism, used horizontal, parallel, and vertical lines to create his grid like art. Students learned that art and math are connected in this project-based learning experience. Pictured are math team members with teachers Donna Brumlow and Jenni Scott. 9 ACT PREP CLASS Preparing for the February 6 th Test 6:00-8:00 P.M. 8 classes: Tuesdays (English/reading/writing instruction) and Thursdays (math/science instruction) The third weekly sessions will be actual timed practice tests with analysis $250 nonrefundable payment - includes ACT prep book (The Real ACT, 3 rd edition) and session attendance. Although the fee covers this test session only, we allow for students to continue coming to each session throughout this CURRENT school year at no additional cost. We have designed our test prep to offer 2 different sessions each night. Session A will be for beginner testers, as well as those who have scored 23 or less in an area, and Session B will be for advanced level testers. In order to attend Session B, you must have a composite score of 24 in an area. This is a fluid program, meaning you may have scored a composite of 24 in math and need to attend Session B for math; however, you may have only scored a 19 in Reading and will attend Session A for that material. See schedule below for the session that will benefit you the most. You must have your ACT score sheet WITH YOU in order to attend the Session B classes. This will enable the instructor to give more precise instruction for your needs, based on your analysis. This is also recommended for you if you ll be in the A section (although this is not required for this section). It is also suggested that Session B students also purchase Barron s ACT 36: Aiming for the Perfect Score, as the instructors will be using that book with you in addition to the other book. Deadline for payment to include the ACT workbook is Thursday, January 7 th by 9:30 A.M. (preferably, give to me; if you leave in office, please give to Mrs. DeVaughn). If you pay after the deadline, the fee is $230, and you must purchase your own book. We are using The Real ACT (3 rd edition). You may turn checks in to the main office. Make sure you include the attached registration form with your check. We will be sending updates throughout the course.
