6 6 Guess Who Remember Me? Born on June 21, 1921, in New York City, Judy Holliday had a short but wonderful career. In 1965, the comedic actress died at age 43, leaving behind a body of work that included only a handful of plays, musicals and movies. However, she is well-remembered for her varied roles. Despite her dumb or flighty characters, Holliday was incredibly smart, with an IQ of 172. Movie studio executives did not want to cast the relatively unknown Holliday in the film version of Born Yesterday, a play in which she starred on Broadway. Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn and others took matters into their own hands and cast her in Adam s Rib as an elaborate screen test. The executives ultimately gave Holliday the starring role in Born Yesterday, for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress. THE WINNERS OF THE CONTEST The crowd Dolly HALLOWEEN PARTY On Oct. 31, we had our annual Halloween Party and our traditional Halloween entertainment, the great Dolly O Dell. This was the biggest turnout we ve ever had for a party. What a success and what great fun. 7 7 STUDY OF THE BEATITUDES Dance Crazes April Norma, Anita, Twila and Terry Kay Potter s Bible Study Group On the first Tuesday of each month, we have a group of Kay Potter s friends from her church coming to Coventry Place and sharing their study of the Beatitudes with us. The study is led by Dr. Frances Calder, pictured above. There is a study book at the front desk that you can borrow if you would like to catch up with them. The next study is on Dec. 6. Throughout the years, dance moves have evolved to match the music of the time, but some dances tend to stick around. 1940s Jitterbug: Also known as swing, the Jitterbug took over this decade. This style originated in the United States but became an international boogie when U.S. armed forces spread it overseas during World War II. 1950s Hand Jive: This dance move was born in the time of rock n roll. It uses the whole body to imitate percussion instruments in a series of claps, slaps, thwacks and whacks. 1960s Twist: The turning of hips became a worldwide craze during this decade. The Twist even inspired other dance moves, like the Monkey! 1970s Hustle: Although it has some features in common with swing, the Hustle is known for its disco fever.

8 December 2011 THE NOVEMBER BIRTHDAY PARTY On Tuesday, Nov. 15, we celebrated the birthdays of all the residents who were born in November. As always, we had lots of guests and lots of fun. On the left with the cake is Jeanette Farrar, who has achieved the most birthdays. The December party will be on the 13th. Please plan ahead to attend. It s so important to us and to your loved one.
