1 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2018 Events on the activity calendar make the season bright The arrival of the amazing Christmas tree in the lobby, which follows on the heals of Thanksgiving each year, marks the beginning of the holiday season here at Sherwood. Carolers started arriving the week after Thanksgiving, and will be coming throughout the month of December. There are several outings this month which will give residents the opportunity for Christmas shopping and celebrating. As always, the Activity Department needs people to sign up at the nurse s station in advance. We also need at least 5 people attending an outing to go. We get the month started off right away on December 1 with an outing to the Sequim Community Christmas Chorus. Each year they regale the community with a beautiful presentation of music. Other outings include opportunities to Christmas shop at Costco and Walmart. The Annual Rotary Christmas Lunch at the Boys & Girls Club is always a resident favorite each year. The lunch is Saturday, December 15. This is an RSVP event, so to attend you must sign up by December 6. Here at home, the month is full of music. All of our favorite entertainers will be here, plus special, musical guests such as the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble, and the Olympic Peninsula Men s Chorus, and Choral Belles women s ensemble. Several caroling groups will be coming throughout the month to fill the dining rooms and halls with holiday songs. Helping us celebrate a country Christmas, musician Buck Ellard will be playing music at the resident Christmas party during lunch in the Regent Dining Room on December 20. Santa is also coming to the party to make sure everyone is on his nice list. Guests are invited to join you for the celebration, but please remind them to RSVP by December 14. We ll be holding a candlelight service with Rev. Julia McKenna Blessing, complete with holiday worship music, on Christmas Eve afternoon. We have battery operated tea-light candles, so everyone can enjoy the feeling of holding a candle without any of the concerns of actual candles. It promises to be a lovely event. Wrapping up the month...and the year...we ll be celebrating A New Year s Eve in Paris. Turns out that 3 p.m. our time is 12 midnight in Paris. What a beautiful city to celebrate the end of the year, and speculate on the adventures that life will present in All of the staff and management at Sherwood Assisted living wish you a joyous Christmas season and a magnificent new year. Santa opened up his workshop for the elves to help him create Christmas gift bags for their friends and neighbors here at Sherwood. These helpful and industrious elves made the other gift items that will be distributed to the residents. Santa wraps up his workshop on Wednesday, December 5 at 2 p.m. in the Activity Room. 5 Snapshots of November Esther McKinnon aims to pick up the spare during in a bowling game at Sherwood Lanes on a rainy Saturday morning. Jean Haley, Ro Weber, and Lorraine Schmidt are busy puzzling things out. The ladies gather in South Hampton to mix up a special autumn treat for everyone to enjoy pumpkin pudding. Everyone enjoyed eating it, almost as much as the ladies enjoyed making it. Sadie Crowe shows the hand woven graduation caps to the residents on a tour of Peninsula College s Longhouse. The Longhouse serves as a place for six local Native American tribes to gather for meetings and cultural education classes. They also have a beautiful display of native artwork. Later the group enjoyed a sack lunch overlooking the Strait of Juan De Fuca at Ediz Hook. With a couple of nuts, some felt, autumn leaves, and of course googly eyes, it s easy to make a nutty turkey Thanksgiving decorating. December 2018 The Sherwood Like to Know 5
