1 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2018 Changes in dining encourage resident participation in menu planning Sherwood Chef Jeremy Harris-Drennen has been busy making changes in the kitchen since becoming the Dietary Manager in September. We ve brought in a registered dietician to help us implement a 5- week menu. We want to work with more fresh and seasonal items, says Jeremy. It will allow us to make menu changes with the seasons. One of the changes includes adding a Resident Choice Meal for an evening meal in the 5-week cycle. Many residents have already found the suggestion sheets on the white boards around the building. This is your chance to get involved and help with the menus, says Jeremy. Make your suggestions, and then we ll let you vote for the Resident Choice Meal. Also included on the suggestion sheet is space to expand the sandwich selections. This is also a big change for the kitchen. Sandwiches are now available all day, every day. If you want a sandwich at 3 a.m., just ask for a menu, Jeremy says. All of the caregivers have their food handlers card, so they are able to make sandwiches even when the kitchen staff is not available. Jeremy welcomes suggestions from residents and has been implementing the changes. Iceberg lettuce for salads is in rotation. Many people are glad to see seasoned, baked fish entrees rather than battered and fried options. During the resident council meeting, residents expressed appreciation for the warmed plates. He knows they have some glitches yet to work out such as pursuing thicker cuts of pork and chicken to keep them more moist during the cooking process. We re working through a lot of changes and working with new people. I hope everything is going well. I hope people are enjoying the changes and increased participation in creating their meals, says Jeremy. Sherwood Silent Auction raised over $350 for the Please feed the animals Olympic Game Farm is one place where interaction and feeding the animals is encouraged! Peg Lawrence (in the back), Retta Harris (center) and Audrey Creary befriended the farm s llama population. Thanks to everyone who participated with donations and purchases!
