7 Qool) {or thought Coming to the woods edge on my Sunday morning w I stand resting a moment Beside a ragged hacf-dead witdp Cum in BCoom, its perfume a moment enccosing me, and standing side 6y side with the ocd Broken BCooming tree, I almost understand, I almost recognize as a friend the great impertinence of Beauty that comes even to the dying, even to thefaccen, without reason sweetening the air. ~ Wendell Berry focus our lives in a sustained way by practicing attention to the sheer gift of life, life in all its stages. When we do so, we encounter a wealth of God's blessings secreted in the ordinary. The poem goes on to say that we live distracted lives, with "minds broken by the thousand calling voices". When we seek and find a "quietness of heart"... an "eye's clarity", we will indeed be more open to the beauty to be found in every moment of every day. - Rev. Cannon Sue Paulton, Huron Lodge Chaplain In this first stanza of "A Timbered Choir" by Wendell Berry, we are encouraged to
8 Lest we forget Remembering and! honoring our heroes In 1915, The British magazine Punch included a poem written by John McCrae entitled, In Flanders Fields. McCrae was a Canadian soldier whose good friend died in the Second Battle of Ypres in Flanders, Belgium. His friend's grave, along with many others was marked with a simple white wooden cross in a field ablaze with red poppies. "The poem highlights the irony of war, where a soldier dies so that a nation of people live." As a mark of respect, people lay wreaths of poppies on the graves of those who died at war. We wear red poppies on our lapels as a sign of remembrance. "...as the world observes Remembrance Day, honoring the brave hearts that died in battle, let us make a promise to forsake war at any cost. After all, as Argentine writer Jose Narosky pens, "In war, there are no unwounded soldiers." As we wear Remembrance Day poppies on our lapel, let us unite against war and bring the world closer, through peace and harmony." (simran Khurana) The Remembrance Service for Huron Lodge will be held on Thursday, November 10th at 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium. All are invited to attend. Tour things support the ivorcd: the [earning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the good, and the vabrofthe Brave. -Muhammad
