1 Oldham-Ramona From the I would like to wish everyone a very enjoyable and wonderful holiday season. Hopefully you are able to take some time and celebrate with your family and friends. As superintendent of the Oldham-Ramona School District, I would like to thank the students, staff, parents and citizens of the Oldham-Ramona School District for all you do for the students and the school. I truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with and for such wonderful people. Because of your efforts and the support you provide, the Oldham-Ramona School is a great place to be a part of. As we transition into 2018, we also transition into the second semester of the school year. This means that report cards and grades will be coming to each student s home. Please take the time to not only look over your child s report card but also take some time to discuss their grades with them. Don t interrogate your child, but do take the time to communicate with them and gain an understanding of how the first half of the school year is going for them. The 2nd semester represents a new beginning. Some JH/HS students will have a new class or two and all grades will reset. Students need to remember that the key is to not give up and continue to work on doing their best. Beginning in January the school will be implementing a new lunch/breakfast program that will be a part of Infinite Campus. This will allow parents to track food purchases and manage payments right within the parent portal. This program will provide immediate, secure access to the food service information that parents need. The school will also be starting to accept online payments in January. The Campus Online Payments will allow parents to make reliable and secure online payments using credit cards, debit cards, and automatic transfers from savings & checking accounts. Training is currently taking place to help with the implementation of these programs. Once training has been completed, information will be provided to assist you with taking advantage of these new programs. Every Kid, Every Day, Oldham-Ramona School District 39-5 Newsletter Michael Fischer, Superintendent Presents or presence? Is there anybody out there that does not enjoy getting a Christmas gift (hint, hint)? How many can remember what they got five, ten, or fifteen years ago? Memories like sitting in front of a fire and playing the Dukes of Hazzard board game is much easier to remember and more vivid than any gift. It is our presence that is important this time of year, not our presents. Make sure you spend time this holiday with those you care about and make memories that last. January is just as packed with events as December. On December 31, the 7-12 grade students have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Stampede Game in Sioux Falls. If you need more information on this, please contact Mrs. Misar. The Dakota Valley Conference Girls and Boys Basketball s are the week of January The One Act Play will perform in Oldham at 5:00 PM on January 21, and then will be competing in Regions on January 23 in Madison. Good luck! Parent s Night for basketball will be on January 25 (BB in Ramona) & 26 (GB in Rutland). The basketball schedule will fill the rest of the month s calendar. Please check the R-School for any possible updates. Users of R-School may have to click on the View by Type tab and click the box named All to see the entire list of our athletic and non-athletic events. Basketball season is off and running. I came across two quotes this past month that I would like to share with you. The first quote comes from former NSU Basketball Coach, Don Meyer. He said, We sure didn t play great, but we played hard. And I can live with that. The most winningest coach in college basketball knew that it was not always about the score at the end of the game that mattered, but the effort that was put forth during the contest. If you get a chance to read or listen to him, I highly recommend it. The other quote came from a football coach who was so famous, they named a car after him. Knute Rockne once said, One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it. Please help me continue to practice great sportsmanship at Oldham-Ramona. We wish both basketball teams the best of luck during the season. GO RAIDERS! Mr. Andrew Johnson Raider News Page 1

5 4 th GRADE PLAY The fourth graders performed a play called, Lewis and Clark and The Bird Girl for students in Kindergarten through 6 th grade. They enjoyed performing for the others and decided all of the hard work and practicing was well worth it. Bryer - Doing the play was really fun because we practiced a lot before we did it. It was kind of frightening being in front of all of the people. Caleb - Being in the play was fun because I got to be three different characters. Brookelyn - The play was really fun because I got to wear a big furry coat. I was scared a little, but I got over it. Mrs. Larsen was nice to let us do the play. Brennon - Doing the play was fun because we got to dress up and say our lines. I liked it when everyone showed up to watch us. Bailey - I was really excited about our play. I loved being in it, and I loved my costume! It was so fun practicing. I loved everything about the play especially the nice comments! Gavin - Being in the play was fun because I got to pretend I was someone else. I like my costume and playing my part. Emma - The play was the best thing I got to do in class for social studies this year. I loved my part in the play, but wished I would have said I would be Sacagawea. Desmond - I felt the play was amazing because I thought everything was fun. I loved everyone s costume. Raider News Page 5
