1 How to Register: Enrollment will be at the Colby United Methodist Church Office. Enrollment times are as follows: Monday, May 14 4:00 6:00 p.m. (CUMC Congregation) Tuesday, May 15 4:00 6:00 p.m. (Open to the public) If you missed open enrollment, you may enroll at the church office during normal business hours. Be aware that some classes will be full. Enrollment fees are due upon enrollment. Classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Classes fill quickly, so do not delay. 2 The mission of the CUMC Summer Program is to act as an outreach ministry embodying the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church which maintain that education is the responsibility of the church as well as of the family and the schools, and instructs the use of "innovative methods of education designed to assist every child toward complete fulfillment as an individual person of worth." 1
3 Notes for Parents: All grade levels listed are for grades completed unless otherwise specified. Pay close attention to the days on each class. Some classes are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Some classes are only one day, some two, some six, some weekly, etc. Please complete a registration form for each child. You may make copies of the registration form. Additional copies can also be sent to you by mail, , or FAX by calling the CUMC office. You may also download additional registration forms at Read class description carefully. Some classes require students to bring supplies. Some classes overlap, so watch carefully when signing up. We will be closed for a lunch hour everyday from 12:00-1:00. Please keep in mind that children will have to be picked up promptly so that the staff can have time for a lunch break between classes. The church reserves the right to cancel classes due to funerals, or other reasons that may arise. Again, please look at dates and times carefully. All fees are non-refundable. Please note: We will not have any classes on July 4 th. 2
4 WEEKLY CLASS DRAMA CLASS Instructor: Lois O Brien Tuesdays 10:00-11:00 2 nd -MS We will learn new drama and acting skills as we work through a script. We will perform our play for the VBS audience. All future actors/actresses are welcome. WEEK 1 ~ June 5-7 SILLY SCIENCE Instructor: Kara Kuhlman June :00-11:00 Pres.-Kind. We ll get sloppy and have silly fun with science as we explore and experiment. Wear old clothes because we might get messy. CRAFTY FUN Instructor: Jada Tubbs June :00-11:00 Ages 6-7 Let s kick off summer with creative fun! Kids will get hands on art and goop making along with bubble madness! All the activities moms cringe at! Ha! We look forward to seeing your sweet one! ART EXPLORATION Instructor: Jada Tubbs June :00-12:00 Ages 8-10 Exploring minds want to know more about water paint, bubble art, color mixing and more! This class will be a time for your child to try something new. Join us! LIL KIDS COOKING Instructor: Lois O Brien June :00-12:00 Kind.-2 nd We will have fun in the kitchen as we learn cooking skills and make tasty treats. 5 FINE MOTOR FUN Instructor: Tera Woofter June 5-7 1:00-2:00 Pres.-Kind. We ll have fun, explore and build our fine motor skills with lots of indoor and outdoor games and activities. Come join the fun! CREATE WITH CLAY June 5-7 & June :00-2:00 3 rd -5 th We will create various fun clay projects with hand-building techniques. Please note that this week is the building session. You will also need to come to Session 2 in Week 3 to glaze the clay pieces. When you sign up you are signed up for both. FUN WITH CLAY June 5-7 & June :00-3:00 Kind-2 nd We will create various fun clay projects with hand-building techniques. Please note that this week is the building session. WEEK 2 ~ June GARDENING Instructor: Annette & Abby Wetter June :00-11:00 Kind-5 th Get your hands dirty with the joy of gardening. Kids will learn basic gardening tips and techniques and learn to love gardening. We will have some projects that the students can bring home and also work in the Community Garden that is being put in at the Methodist church. 4

We will learn and perform a short dance during this time. TIE-DYE FUN Instructor: Bailey Britton June 14 th only 10:00-11:00 Pres.-1 st We will have fun with tie-dye and make our own tie-dye shirts. Wear old clothes because this is extremely messy. You are responsible for bringing your child their own white shirt. SEWING Instructor: Becky Williams June :00-2:00 3 rd - MS We will learn basic sewing skills and use straight seams to create fun and funky pillowcases out of flannel. ANIMAL FUN Instructor: Vanessa Best June :00-2:00 Pres.-Kind We will have a great time creating and crafting zoo. We ll have fun crafts and activities with an animal theme. Come join the fun. PAINTING CLASS June :00-2:00 3 rd -5 th We will explore various painting techniques to create beautiful acrylic paintings. If you have a landscape picture you have taken you can bring it to class for inspiration. Other landscape pictures and supplies will be provided. Wear old clothes you can paint in. FAIRY HOUSES Instructor: Melissa Brown June :00-3:00 3 rd -MS Back by popular demand, come create a fairy paradise in a pot to take home. UNDER THE SEA Instructor: Laura Johnston June :00-11:00 Pres.-Kind. We will dive into fun with cool crafts and activities with an under the sea theme. Wear old clothes because we might get messy. RECYCLED ROBOTS & WIGGLE BOTS Instructor: Melissa Brown June :00-11:00 Kind. -3 rd We will use junk and recycled materials to create a fun robot sculpture and make a wigglebot that will actually wiggle and move around. CHEER CLASS Instructor: Cheerleaders Maia Cape and Makenna Mettlen June :00-11:00 3 rd -5 th We will learn the basics of cheerleading and many different cheers from cheerleaders, Maia and Makenna. Make it MOVE! Instructor: Melissa Brown June :00-12:00 3 rd -5 th This is the class for all future builders. We will explore different simple machines (levers, pulleys, wheel and axle, etc.) as we build different types of inventions that move and do work. VOLLEYBALL Instructor: Chelsea Funk June :00-12:00 3 rd -6 th We will cover basic volleyball skills and fundamentals. 7

MAKING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Instructor: Martha Balbuena June :00-2:00 Kind. -3 rd We ll create our own musical instruments to play from recycled objects. We ll turn our trash into musical treasures! UPCYCLING Instructor: Rachelle Morrison June :00-2:00 3 rd -MS We will reuse, repurpose and find new life for all kinds of junk. We will upcycle to make beautiful things out of trash ures. CREATE WITH CLAY June 5-7 & June :00-2:00 3 rd -5 th We will create various fun clay projects with hand-building techniques. Please note that this week is the glazing and painting session. We will have the planetarium available, so we can see the wonders of space up close. MINI CAKE DECORATING June :00-11:00 3 rd -MS We will learn basic techniques of cake decorating and decorate a 6 cake. ASTROLOGY- WITH PLANETARIUM Instructors: Kitty Hemmert & Melissa Brown June :00-12:00 3 rd -MS Come explore the stars as we learn all about space and the cosmos. We will have the planetarium available, so we can see the wonders of space up close. DINOSAUR DIORAMAS Instructor: Laura Johnston June :00-12:00 Kind. -2 nd Calling all dinosaur lovers! We will create mini dioramas with small dinosaur sculptures and build the environment the dinosaurs live in. FUN WITH FOOD June :00-2:00 Kind. -2 nd We will have fun with food as we learn basic cake decorating tips and make cute and tasty treats! 9
11 FAMILY TREE STRING ART Instructor: Martha Balbuena June :00-2:00 3 rd -MS We will create a beautiful family tree plaque out of string art and use family members names for leaves. This would make a perfect gift for someone special. BIG SLOPPY SCIENCE Instructor: Melissa Rall June :00-2:00 3 rd -5 th We will have lots of sloppy fun with science and experiments. Come prepared to explore and have some fun. PRINTMAKING June :00-3:00 3 rd -5 th We will explore the technique of printmaking. We will carve and print our own notecards. This is a fun but messy process, so wear old clothes. Bring an idea or an image with you to class. SLOPPY SCIENCE Instructor: Melissa Rall June :00-3:00 Kind. -2 nd We will have lots of sloppy fun with science and experiments. Come prepared to explore and have some fun. WEEK 5 ~ July 3-5 SHRINKY DINK FUN Instructor: Laura Johnston Tues. & Thurs. July 3 & 5 10:00-11:00 Kind. -5 th We will make various crafts and have fun with Shrinky Dinks. Dem Old Museum Instructor: Ann Miner Tues. July 3 and Thurs. July 5 Prairie Museum of Art & History 11:00-12:00 2 nd - 5 th We will explore basic concepts in Archeology and Paleontology. We will do fun activities dealing with these two fields, view ancient fossils like the Amebelodon at the museum, and participate in a mock archeology dig. Both sessions will be at the Prairie Museum of Art and History; please drop off and pick up your child at the museum. 10
12 4 TH OF JULY FUN July 3 rd only 1:00-2:00 Kind. -5 th We will craft a fun 4 th of July decoration in this one-day class. KALEIDOSCOPE July 3 rd only 2:00-3:00 Kind. -3 rd We will make our own kaleidoscopes in this one-day class. WATER FUN Instructors: Trish Starbuck & Melissa Brown July 5 th 1:00-2:00 Pres.-2 nd Come have fun in the sun with water games and activities.
