NATIONAL 4-H WEEK October 4-10 is our National 4-H Week. This is the week that the whole 4-H nation celebrates, promotes and advertises 4-H to the public. Show your 4-H spirit by wearing your 4-H clothes, talking to others about 4-H and recruiting new members for your clubs. We always hold a contest for 4-H displays during this week. The club can make a flat display (any size) to go in a window (or on a bulletin board, etc.), a 3D display in a business window or on a table, or a tri-fold display. They must be put up in a public area. Displays must be in place before October 4 th and remain up through October 10 th. Please call in your location and type of display to Sue at There will be cash awards in each category. Club leaders have been ed directions and a copy of the score sheet. FAIR THANK YOU Thank you to my Indoor Chairmen Penny Austin-Richardson, Melissa Quillen, Patrick Lee, Beth Sissom and Mary Schmitt for an awesome job! It was a tremendous help having you work with me this year. Thank you to all of the parents and 4-Hers who were helpers on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Many thanks to all of the Indoor judges. There were over 50 of them making those tough decisions! And a huge thank you to all of the 4-Hers who took the time to make their exhibits and show them at the fair. Our room was the best spot at the fair so bright, colorful and COOL! THANK YOU NOTES Indoor Grand Champion winners please be sure to send your thank you notes to your sponsor. If you need the information again, contact Sally.

4 Those who had animals/items auctioned at the fair, please get a thank you to your buyers. I realize that the Livestock Sale 4-Hers have already sent notes, but if you see anyone who was a buyer, please give them a public, verbal thank you. Without them, you wouldn t receive what you do for your auctioned projects. A small thank you goes a long ways! COUNTY FAIR VERSUS STATE FAIR ADMISSION There seems to be confusion with the 4-H leaders and volunteers on the policy of Leaders Cards and fair admission. At our county fair, Leaders and volunteers DO PAY to enter the fairgrounds. Only the 4-Hers can use their cards for free admission. However, the cards DO work for admission at the State Fair. FAIR ITEMS LEFT BEHIND There are still a few Indoor fair items that were left at the fair. You may pick them up in the meeting room at the 4- H Park. They will be disposed of by October if no one picks them up. INDOOR FAIR CHECK INACCURACIES If you have received your indoor fair check and believe it to be incorrect, you need to let Sally know by October 16 th. Even if you have previously given that information, please do so again. A list will be compiled and taken to the fair board meeting in October. Sally has all of the judging sheets to be able to check for corrections. Concerns after October 16 th will not be addressed. CLUB PAPERWORK DUE OCTOBER 15TH Club leaders I need your Annual Financial Summary Report, complete with your signature and your club president signature, along with your treasurer book and bank statements to verify your report. I also need your 4- H Club Property Inventory Report form at the same time. You need to fill one out even you your club doesn t own any property. Again, it needs signatures. IRS REPORTING Club leaders You MUST file your 990 (e-postcard) taxes before November 15 th. The report HAS to be from July 1, 2014 through June 30, It is critical that you print the that they send you that says The IRS has accepted the e-postcard described above. Please save this receipt for your records. If, for some reason it s not accepted, you MUST print that out too. If you need help, contact Sally. MANDATORY LEADERS MEETING October 22 nd is the date for our annual, mandatory leaders meeting. It will be held at the 4-H Park at 7:00pm. This is the meeting where we elect new Park Board members. Morgan placed 2 nd in junior women s 3-position small bore rifle. Shortly after returning home to Maryland, she learned that she also earned enough points in the qualifying system to garner a coveted invitation to compete in the International Shooting Sports Federation s World Cup match which will be held in Gabala, Azerbaijan in mid-august. Also earning medals at the USA Shooting National Rifle Championships were Queen Anne s 4H Marksmanship members Zach Schmidt earning highest score in the J2 category for junior men s 3-position small bore rifle; Mason MacKenzie earning high J3 in junior men s 50 meter prone; Thomas Jones earned a medal for High B/C category in open division men s air rifle; Morgan Philips also placed 3 rd in junior women s 50 meter prone. 7 Says Coach Penny Richardson, I am so proud of the club and its team members! They have worked so hard, and that is evident in the medals they earn and the championships they have won. They continue to show what they are capable of and I'm sure we see remarkable results in the future. The Queen Anne s County 4H Marksmanship Club practices 6 times a month, year round at the Queen Anne s County 4H Park.
