1 Parkview Middle School NEWSLETTER December 2018 Dear Parkview Parents/Guardians: We have much to be thankful for again this year in our school community and we thank everyone for your contributions! Our Thanksgiving week at school ended in a special way with one of our most favorite days of the holiday season. This is our eighth year in a row working with Festival Foods Assistant Store Director, Rob Vought, and the various Festival Foods stores in the greater Green Bay area. Mr. Vought works with us to provide an entire Thanksgiving dinner that is boxed, ready for pickup and delivery to any number of families we are able to support. This year we were able to sponsor 10 families thanks to the generosity of Parkview families and staff last year and this year! Our Family & Consumer Education teacher, Mrs. Dawn Ratz, had her students make the desserts to accompany the meals, including pumpkin pie, bread and a variety of cookies. Parkview staff, along with Kathy DeCaster and our Art teacher, Mrs. Melissa Gerrior, worked together to wrap and decorate the boxes. Parkview staff supports the cause by making a cash donations to our Casual for a Cause fund where staff have the opportunity to pay to wear jeans to work. It is a TEAM effort among the school, families and the community and we are truly thankful for all who participated. Please see our festive pictures at the end of this newsletter! On another note related to this time of year, beginning on Monday, December 3 rd, students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:10 a.m. to wait in the commons/hallway until the bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will continue to be offered during this time. Students may not bring in any food or drinks such as coffee, mochas, or sodas from area restaurants or home to eat or drink in school during breakfast time. We welcome all students to purchase items in the cafeteria in the morning. Students who would like to stay outside until the bell rings will still have this option to do so. Our after-school student supervision ends at 3:00 p.m. daily. Because of this reason, this is also the time that students need to be out of the building for their ride or walk home. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up by 3:00 p.m. each day, especially with the colder weather here to stay for the next few months. We want to make sure that all students are supervised and safe after our supervision time ends. If your child is planning to attend an event that begins at 3:30 p.m. or later, they may come back for it and re-enter the building when the event starts.

2 Also, please remember to have your student dress appropriately for the elements. Now that the winter season is in full swing, it is important that our students are properly dressed for spending extended periods of time outside before and after school and during recess. Lastly, as our school year continues to fly by with the holidays fast approaching, we have many important and upcoming dates for your calendar once again for the month of December. Please check the Reminder page in the Weekly Wednesday for these dates. Thank you for supporting Parkview Middle School and its staff. We wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas and happy holiday season ahead! Sincerely, Kris Hucek Principal Brian Carter Associate Principal

7 Every Future Begins December 2018 Library News! Give-a-Kid-a-Book your library... Every future begins with Once Upon a Time Parkview Library Media Center is once again collecting books for the Give-A- Kid-A-Book Campaign sponsored by the Friends of Brown County Library. The books that are collected will be distributed as holiday gifts to less fortunate children through local organizations such as the Salvation Army and other community programs that promote reading year-round. You can help promote the joys of reading and prevent illiteracy in Brown County by donating a NEW book today. Books will be collected until Friday, December 7th. Only new books will be accepted. Books for ages 3 months to 18 years are requested, but there is a great need for books suitable for teenagers as these seem to be the least donated items. Thanks for your support. A book is a gift you can open again and again. (Garrison Keillor) Scholastic Book Fair A Big Parkview The Scholastic Book Fair held November 6-9 was a huge success.
