1 TULLIBIGEAL CENTRAL SCHOOL Newsletter Ricky Murray-Wright and Jackson Payne From the School, Kolby Newham, Blake Dillon, Jack Dillon, Flynn Helyar, Alyssa Loxley, Jessie Tyack, Emma Bendall and Tahlia Bendall Millie Helyar, Chelsea Bendall and Lilly Neyland in the newly decorated cubbyhouse Good luck today to our 8 swimmers, Emma Bendall, Blake Dillon, Alyssa Loxley, Kolby Newham, Jack Dillon, Jessie Tyack, Flynn Helyar and Tahlia Bendall who are off to Lake Cargelligo to swim in the Lower Lachlan Carnival. I'm sure they will all try their best and we look forward to hearing about their efforts. This term we will be trialling a new way of receiving counselling, with the implementation of video conferencing. This will allow our students to have more contact with the school counsellor, reducing the amount of time they will be on the road and allowing regular times for students to meet. If you would like your child to access the counsellor please contact the school. Next week our Secondary students will have a fantastic opportunity to listen to Mr Eddie Woo, who was named Australia s local hero at the recent Australia Day awards. Mr Woo is a renowned Mathematics teacher who shot to fame with his online mathematics explanation on YouTube. Mr Woo created these short lessons to help a student of his who was missing school due to illness, and this was his way of being able to continue teaching him. Students will receive a note this week with details of this excursion and I encourage all students to attend this fantastic opportunity. It is always great to see the students' creative play in playground. Since the beginning of term we have seen the growth of the local farm in and around the school. The students and their farm gear have worked up the paddocks and are now ready to sow! The amount of creative discussion is great to see and the students working together on a common goal is just fantastic. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) will be a focus this year with the implementation of the classroom matrix. Students have also been asked over the last week for ideas for our level rewards and these, once finalised will be announced in the newsletter. 4 SCHOOL SCENES SCIENCE WITH K.1.2 Last week, K/1/2 were involved in a rocket science investigation. We read through the instructions of the investigation and then set up our experiment. First the balloon was taped to the straw, and then we tried different types of string to see which string would allow the straw and balloon to move along easily. Once we had decided upon the right string to use, we then experimented with holding the string at different heights to see which would allow the balloon to move faster or slower. The same was done with the balloon, sometimes blowing it up a lot and sometimes not much at all. Our investigation showed that the balloon move quicker the less air it had in it and when the string was held a bit lower at one end. Page 4

5 SCHOOL NEWS WESTERN SPORTS TRIALS All secondary students have received a Western Sports Trial nomination form. If your child would like to trial at Western Region for a sport please complete this form and return to Mr Small at the school. Please be aware that the trials are highly competitive and are not to be considered carnivals. If your child happens to make the Western team they must attend State, unless there is an illness on the day, or they will receive a 1 year ban from Western Trials. The following table outlines the Western sports trial dates and the State representation dates. Athletics nominations will be dependent on student performance at the school carnival as these nominations are standards based. If there are any questions or queries regarding the trialling process please contact Mr Small at the school. If you could help out at the sale we will be setting up at 9am as the sale begins at We would also like donations of cakes and slices that can be dropped at Leanne Imrie s on Wednesday. COACHES We are looking for coaches for the Under 14 s & Under 11 s Football teams for this season. If you are interested in either job please give Brenton or Leanne a call. Tulli Swimming Pool News Monday to Sunday 3.00pm 6.00pm Weather and Attendance Permitting Thursday Swimming Club There will be no supervisor on duty. A child under the age of 10 must be supervised by an adult (18years and over). To open the pool at any time out of supervised hours you will need to have your Current Senior First Aid, Current Bronze Medallion and be a member. The key can be collected from Mandy Glasgow or Louise Loftus. Memberships are now due.
