1 Boogie Beat Volume XX Issue I January 2017 INFORMATIONAL NEWSLETTER OF THE STEEL CITY BOOGIE CLUB President s Message by Happy New Year!!! 2017 geez, wasn t it just 2000? Since we all know that time DOES fly, let s keep dancing and making memories this year. Your board already has so many things planned it s gonna be an exciting year ahead! We debated about when to have our first dance since January weather can be harsh and we opted for the end of the month, as you ll see! We re back at Antonelli s to begin our year, and we have some unclaimed baskets to give away to add to the fun. We have 2 dances scheduled for February and you ll notice that we brought our Valentine Dance back this year. We re trying it on a Saturday night, even though we know there ll be competition with other venues for your dancing pleasure. The Royal Place is offering a Sweetheart Special dinner that ll make your mouth water--though you can order anything from their menu and we ll confirm what it will be when we send our reminder out prior to the dance. Whether you re part of a couple or you re single, I hope ALL of you, our members, will plan to support YOUR club s event for a special evening of dining and dancing! We have never been a meat market kind of club and never will be, which is why we don t play more than 1 or 2 slow dances a night and why we remain a SOCIAL dance club. We re all members of the SCBC family of dancers who care about each other so come on out and DANCE on February 11 th! I m hoping for a HUGE, RED-HUED crowd! Weather-related cancellations will be ed that day & will be on the HOTLINE. Once again, one of the advantages of membership is that if you attend just 5 regular dances (meaning one for which we charge admission and that you mark your name on a roll sheet), you can attend our Christmas Dinner Dance for FREE. If our Christmas/Anniversary Dance was any indication, MANY of you appreciate this aspect of your membership. Last year s event was absolutely lovely in every way, thanks to your good spirits and generosity. I can t thank our volunteers enough. So many of you came early to help set up and stayed after to help pack up so many that I didn t have a chance to make a list to personally thank you, so I am now THANK YOU! Our Chinese Auction basket team of Jean Binus, Debbie Ciranni, Mary Seifert and me managed to assemble our best assortment yet, thanks, in part, to your re-gifted donations throughout the year (yes, we ll take anything in decent shape!), and I hope I didn t miss thanking anyone for anything you may ve donated. In addition, many of you donated festive goodie-filled baskets that YOU made for which we thank you: Mary Ann Busch, Debbie & Tom Fowlow and John & Kathleen Reid. Jim & Candy Hawthorne and Mary & Craig Seifert donated alcohol and other items to make our give-aways the best ever and deserve a big thank you for that. We again extend our sincere thanks to everyone who donated gift items and recycled baskets throughout the year and to everyone who helped make our Christmas/20 th Anniversary Party such a success and so much fun!. Remember, you can bring items to any dance and give them to me, as we re starting to think about our Summer Picnic baskets already (ahhhh, summer.). Boogie in the Burgh #19 will be here before you know it! The dates are April 6-9 and we are already gearing up as the excitement builds. Ticket sales are going very well and we expect a sell out once again this year, so please don t wait too long to mail your registration form in especially if you plan to stay at the Embassy Suites (which I highly recommend). You ll find a BIB registration form and a renewal form in this issue, so read your newsletter (please) and then fill out your forms and get them in asap! Keep warm and be safe! Any member who wishes a voice on matters of Club direction must submit his/her request, in writing, to any officer or director no later than 72 hours prior to the regularly scheduled board meeting, the intent and purpose of said voice so as to be put on the agenda of that meeting.
