1 Presents Music by Stephen Flaherty Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty Based on the works of Dr. Seuss Directed by Frank Remiatte Choreographed by Alisa Williams Musical Direction by Kirk Valles Produced by Cameron Williams August 19-28, 2011 Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM Seussical Jr. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

2 A Note from the Assistant Producer To start this note, here is a quote: Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don t matter, and those who matter don t mind. Dr. Seuss Dr. Seuss had the power to send important messages in a simple way. He set out to write rhyming stories for children and ended up teaching generations the power of friendship, how to stand up for what they believe in, be who they want to be, and how to have just the right amount of fun. Here we have for you the right amount of everything: humor, drama, wackiness, and happiness all wrapped up in a heartfelt musical. For Seussical, we have two firsts. One is the fact that this is Pickwick s first all youth production, but as always, there was no cost to participate. Second, we have expanded our mentoring of youth to include five of the major behind-the-scenes production elements. In addition to being members of the cast, these youth have also taken on major responsibilities to produce this full-scale musical: Assistant Producer: Assistant Stage Manager: Assistant Choreographers: Assistant Costumer: Assistant Set Designer: Nettie Allen Danielle Edmonds Lauren Adkins and Allison Edmonds Emily Jardel David Gregory - Nettie Allen, Assistant Producer PICKWICK PLAYERS Formed in 2006, Pickwick Players brings affordable, high quality community theater productions and classes to communities in the San Diego area. 6 A few Thinks from the Director Welcome to a fun and crazy ride. Seussical is a wonderful musical, based on the works of Dr. Seuss. But it isn t a string of his stories set to music. And it isn t one of his stories. In fact, what has been done is the creation of a totally new, full-length book musical, with a story that weaves together his most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways. This show incorporates elements from at least fifteen of his classic books. Many of these characters have never met before, but they will meet in our musical for the first time! In the course of the show, some will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures, and some will save the world. They will travel everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McEligott s Pool, Palm Beach to other places out of reach. Dr. Seuss believes in helping a friend, in not giving up, in keeping a promise. He believes in the value and dignity of others, in working to preserve the fragile sweetness of the natural world. And he believes that peace is the ultimate ideal, among nations and in every heart. He also believes in the power of the imagination! A big thank you to my wonderful production team and their assistants! You are all amazing!! Special thanks to Alisa and Katie for keeping up with my madness! I am so pleased to be making my directorial debut with this wonderful show and these amazing kids! So please sit back and be transported to some magical places like the Circus McGurkus or Solla Sollew! Listen to the message and have an amazing journey! A person s a person no matter how small.
