1 2018 Mendota Heights Parks and Recrea on Informa on Registra on for summer programs will begin March 1, 2018 online at or in person at Mendota Heights City Hall. Skateboard Camp: Have you ever dreamed of doing a kickflip, dropping on a ramp, or just cruising down the street? If so, then this is the camp for you! Staff from 3rd Lair are seasoned professionals teaching the Twin Ci es how to skateboard since It is your turn to learn from the best! Whether it is your first day on board, or you re an experienced rider looking to take it to the next level, we have you covered. Highly trained instructors teach proven techniques in a fun and suppor ve se ng. All necessary equipment will be provided. If par cipants have their own they are encouraged to bring it. For ages: 8-14 Session 1: June (10am-Noon) Session 2: July 9-11 (10am-Noon) Session 3: August 6-8 (10am-Noon) Loca on: Rogers Lake Park Cost: $100 per camp Basketball Camp: Learn the rules of basketball while working on team play and sportsmanship through skill development and small group games. The following skills will be taught: shoo ng, passing, dribbling, offense and defense. June (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 6-12 year olds Loca on: Saint Thomas Academy Cost: $79 per child (Register by June 10, 2018) Lacrosse Camp: Learn the rules of lacrosse through non-contact/so lacrosse while working on team play and sportsmanship through skill development and small group games. The following individual skills will be taught: catching. throwing, scooping, and cradling. June (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 8-12 year olds Loca on: Harmon Park (West Saint Paul) Cost: $79 per child (Register by June 17, 2018) Ul mate Frisbee Camp: Learn the rules of ul mate Frisbee while working on team play and sportsmanship through skill development, drills, prac ces, and games. July (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 8-14 years old Loca on: Kensington South Park (Mendota Heights) Cost: $79 per child (Register by July 8, 2018)
2 Flag Football Camp: Learn the rules of flag football while working on team play and sportsmanship through skill development and games. The following skills will be taught: passing, catching, kicking and strategies of offense and defense. July (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 6-12 year olds Loca on: Kensington South Park Cost: $79 per child (Register by July 15, 2018) Cheer/Dance/Tumbling Camp: Learn the mo on/jump technique and sideline/performance cheers and dance rou nes. The final day par cipants will perform a cheerleading program for family and friends. July (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 5-10 year olds Loca on: Kensington South Park Cost: $79 per child (Register by July 15, 2018) Disc Golf Camp: Learn the rules of disc golf while working on team play and sportsmanship through skill development and games. The following skills will be taught: types of discs, shots, grips, and strategies of disc golf. Discs are provided during camp. July 30 August 2 (9:00am-12:00pm) Ages: 8-14 year olds Loca on: Garlough Park Cost: $79 per child (Register by July 22, 2018) Safety Camp: This experience will last a life me. Camp leaders include volunteers from local police and fire departments. Safety camp par cipants will learn about stranger safety, internet safety, fire safety, and prac ce personal defense. On Thursday, we will take a field trip to a water park to prac ce some of the water safety skills that we learned. July 10, 11, 12 (8:00am-3:30pm) Ages: Youth entering 3rd and 4th grade in the fall Fee: $43 (Includes lunch, snack and field trip) Loca on: Kaposia Park, South Saint Paul
3 Summer Playground Program Join us at Mendotakota Park (Rainy days at Mendota Heights Fire Hall) for some summer fun! Please bring sunscreen, bug spray, water bo le, snack, hat, change of clothes, and a towel each day. Sign up for all weeks or just certain weeks! Week 1: Scavenger Hunt/Detec ve Week June 11, 12, 13, 15 Are you able to crack the Mendota Heights case? Join us for a week of fun scavenger hunts, footprint detec ve prac ce, maneuvering a detec ve maze, and fingerprin ng. Campers will solve a mystery case in groups, while also making their own spy decoder, body silhoue e, and fingerprint iden fica on card. 9:30-11:30 (4-7 year olds) Cost: $40 per child/12:00-2:30 (7-10 year olds) Cost: $50 per child Sign up for our op onal field trip at Big Thrill Factory for campers in 1st-7th grade (in the fall of 2018) on Thursday, June 14. This is an extra $25/per person. Week 2: Olympics Week June 18, 19, 20, 22 Do you have dreams of becoming an Olympian? Join us for the Mendota Heights Olympic games this summer including an opening ceremony and closing ceremony. Children will compete in different ac vi- es and Olympic games throughout the week. Campers will leave with homemade Olympic game bracelets, Olympic medals, Olympic rings, and torches. 9:30-11:30 (4-7 year olds) Cost: $40 per child/12:00-2:30 (7-10 year olds) Cost: $50 per child Sign up for our op onal field trip to the MN Twins Game for campers in 3rd-7th grade (in fall of 2018) on Thursday, June 21st. This is an extra $25/per person. Week 3: Ninja Warrior Week June 25, 26, 27, 29 Is your child interested in learning skills to become the next Ninja Warrior? Join us for a daily obstacle course, cau on tape maze, minute to win it games, and a twister challenge. Children will design their own bandana, sweatband, and make their very own nunchucks and ninjas. 9:30-11:30 (4-7 year olds) Cost: $40 per child/12:00-2:30 (7-10 year olds) Cost: $50 per child Sign up for our op onal field trip to Basecamp for campers in 1st-7th grade (in fall 2018) on Thursday, June 28th. This is an extra $25/per person.
4 Week 4: Water Week July 16, 17, 18, 20 On a hot summer day, there is nothing more fun than playing with water. Join us for slip and slides, water balloon fights, water obstacle courses, and water limbo! Campers will make their own sponge balls and drip, drop, dunk machine. Come stay cool this summer and join us for some water fun! 9:30-11:30 (4-7 year olds) Cost: $40 per child/12:00-2:30 (7-10 year olds) Cost: $50 per child Sign up for our op onal field trip to Bunker Beach for campers in 3rd-7th grade (in fall of 2018) on Thursday, July 19. This is an extra $30/person. Children must know how to swim. Week 5: Nature Camp July 23, 24, 25, 27 Learning to respect and love nature is an important part of growing up. Join us for chalk twister, nature javelin compe ons, tug o war, potato sack races, balloon tosses, 3 legged races, nature cra s, and nature cooking projects. Our nature walks will be one to remember! 9:30-11:30 (4-7 year olds) Cost: $40 per child/12:00-2:30 (7-10 year olds) Cost: $50 per child Sign up for our op onal Cliff Timm Fishing Derby on Thursday, July 26. Open to children 14 and under. This is an extra $10/per person. Parks Celebra on June 2, 2018 Save the date for the 2018 City of Mendota Heights Parks Celebra on on Saturday June 2nd from 11am- 2pm. This annual event brings the community together to reconnect with neighbors and celebrate the beauty of our city. Officer Sco Patrick Memorial 5K Walk/Run It is not too early to begin registering for the 13th Annual Sco Patrick Memorial 5K Walk/Run to benefit Special Olympics. The event will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the Village at Mendota Heights. Registra- on is $25 before 6pm on June 1st, or $30 on the day of the event. Registra on is available at Mendota Heights City Hall or online at Family Kickball Tournament The City of Mendota Heights is teaming up with the TriDistrict Community Educa on to throw a community kickball tournament. We invite community members to create teams of 8-15 people for a day of fun, food and friendship. Each team must have 4 children on their roster. Each registered par cipant will also receive a meal on the day of the tournament. Teams will only need one person to register on the TriDistrict Community Educa on website or can register by phone at Registra on opens on Sunday, April 15, Sunday, June 10 (12:30pm) $45 per team Mendakota Park
5 Youth Field Trips June 14: Big Thrill Factory We will spend the morning at Big Thrill Factory in Minnetonka and enjoy the a ernoon at Lake Minnetonka Regional Park play area. Please bring a bag lunch, beverage, and money (op onal) to play extra games at Big Thrill Factory. Grades: 1st-7th (Fall of 2018) Fee: $25.00 per child Drop off at City Hall 9:00am/Pick up at City Hall 3:45pm June 21: MN Twins Game Come cheer on the Minnesota Twins as they ba le the Boston Red Sox at Target Field. We will return roughly 30 minutes a er the game finishes. Please bring a bag lunch and extra money for concessions (op onal). Grades: 3rd-7th (Fall of 2018) Fee: $25.00 per child Drop off at City Hall 9:45am/Pick up at City Hall 30 minutes a er game finishes June 28: Basecamp Enjoy the day with team building ac vi es and games, indoor rock climbing, and archery prac ce at Basecamp in Saint Paul. Please bring a bag lunch and beverage. Grades: 1st-7th (Fall of 2018) Fee: $25 per child Drop off at City Hall 9:30am/Pick up at City Hall 3:15pm July 19: Bunker Beach We will spend the day under the sun at Bunker Beach with waterslides, lazy river, and the wave pool (op onal). Wave pool tubes can be rented for $3 for 2 hours. Please bring a bag lunch, swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen. Concessions are available. Children must be able to swim. Grades: 3rd-7th (Fall of 2018) Fee: $30 per child Drop off at City Hall 9:15am/Pick up at City Hall 4:30pm
6 July 26: Valley Fair Spend the day with us on the Powertower, Steel Venom, and the North Star. We will also have access to Soak City waterpark. Please bring money to purchase lunch and snacks. Kids must be 48 inches tall to go on the rides. Grades: 4th and up (Fall of 2018) Fee: $35 per child Drop off City Hall 9:15am/Pick up at City Hall 4:00pm Cliff Timm Memorial Fishing Derby Bring your fishing pole and come on down to Roger s Lake Fishing pier to catch, the big one! Prizes and goodie bags will be provided for all par cipants. Parents and grandparents are welcome to watch. We will be providing hotdogs, beverages and a cold treat. One lucky boy or girl will win a Minnesota Life me Fishing License. July 26 (5:00-7:00pm) Fee: $10 per par cipant Junior Golf League Grow your game and play in a league this summer. Must know the game of golf and be able to play unsupervised. Children will play in groups of 4 children. Ages: 6-15 Offered Wednesdays and Fridays (11am-1pm tee mes) Starts the week of June 11 and ends the week of August 13 (No programming the week of July 4) Fee: $110 Tiger Tots Golf Program This program features the basics of golf and golf e que e, while focusing on loving the game of golf. Ages: 4-6 Offered Mondays from 9:00-9:45am and 10:00-10:45am Session #1: June 11, 18, 25 Session #2: July 9, 16, 23 Session #3: July 30, August 6, 13 Maximum 5 par cipants per class. Fee: $25 per child
7 Junior Golf Program Learn techniques and strategies from golf coaches, while gaining experience on the course. Camps will run Monday-Thursday from 1pm-3pm. 9 USTA Tennis League This program is for youth looking to play at the highest level. Players should be on Varsity or JV at their school or intend to be on their school team. There will be a 14 and under team and a 18 and under team. Matches will begin in June with the 14u team playing on Tuesday and the 18u team playing on Thursdays. There will be 2-3 home matches and 2-3 away matches. Instructors will provide coaching and supervision for matches. Players must get their own rides to matches. Ages Fee: $150 1:00-2:30 (@ Convent of the Visita on) for prac ces Players must have or purchase a USTA membership to compete. Adult Tennis Lessons Have fun, stay in shape and meet new friends while playing the lifelong sport of tennis in Mendota Heights! All classes are taught by USTA-trained instructors. Beginner Classes for those who have li le or no tennis experience. Learn the basic strokes and begin to rally. All par cipants will be given a new Wilson tennis racquet. Thursdays in June and July (June 14, 21, 28 and July 12, 19, 26) 6:00-7:00pm Loca on: Friendly Hills Park Tennis Courts Fee: $75 Advanced Beginner Classes are for those who know the basic strokes and are working further on ball tracking, movement, and consistency. Players are ready for introductory social match play. The technology was advancing quickly, which made it even deadlier for those directly involved. While the United States was not directly involved from the start, our country felt the repercussions, good or bad, of what was taking place in Europe. This presenta on will explore the history of World War I and what it was like to live in Dakota County at the me.
