2 End of Term 3 Term 3 is coming to a rapid close and with it the weather is becoming much brighter as we head towards summer. The last day of Term is Friday 21 st September and we will be finishing at 2:30pm. The OSHC program will commence from that time. Please make a booking if you wish to use the service. Kerry Wood Cricket Clinics On Monday all students participated in the second session of a three week cricket clinic series. Sunshine was appreciated as the main skills of batting, bowling and fielding were practised in a fun and engaging way. Ben Young and his team from SEDA are sharing their expertise and enthusiasm and are helping children to gain confidence and improve technique. If anyone is interested in joining a local cricket club more information can be found at the following link The final session is next Monday. Sara Hudson KINDERGARTEN A very enjoyable week for everyone at Kindergarten! The children have really enjoyed playing outside in the lovely sunshine this week and it is always entertaining listening to their verbal interactions during their play, especially during play in the cubby where sandy tea parties are held almost daily. We continue to focus on the alphabet this week and nearly only have 6 or 7 letters to go. The children love it when it comes time to focus on the letter of their name as they are always particularly confident with these. On Friday last week, the 3 year old children came to Kindergarten dressed in their favourite football team colours and we shared in a hot dog morning tea which was thoroughly enjoyed! The morning consisted of the children cheering for their own teams and on occasion, even attempting to share one or two verses of the theme song! Below are some gorgeous photos of some of the children proudly posing for a photo in their team colours! Just a reminder to 3 year old families that there is NO Kinder session this Friday due to a School Curriculum Day! Until next week, Jacquie, Jen, Narelle & Jude J Emmy, Charlotte and Tilly Go Bombers! Jaydn and Aliya Go Demons! Will and Luca Go Blues and Bulldogs!

3 McDonald s Hoop Time Senior Round Robin On Tuesday 28th August, some Grade 5 and 6 students participated in the extra curricula activity of basketball, namely the McDonalds Senior Hoop Time Round Robin, at Blackburn Basketball Stadium. We had 3 teams entered one in each of the divisions, namely Rookies, Future Stars and All Stars. All teams played 5 games each throughout the day. The teams played against 2 other schools in our area Beverly Hills Primary School and Blackburn Primary School. All teams tried their best and played really well. The Rookies teams had a mixture of results, with having fun being their main objective. Both the Future Stars and All Stars had a very successful day, with both teams winning their respective Grand Finals. They now go on to play in the Regional Finals. (date to be advised) A VERY BIG thank you to our coaches - Adrianna, who coached Rookies, Steph, who coached the Future Stars and Amanda, who coached the All Stars. Thank you to Noleen Clark and Jo Morkham who assisted with walking the teams to the stadium. It was wonderful to see other parents and grandparents come along to see the teams play, as well. A Snapshot of Senior Hoop Time I thought it was fun to play basketball all day. My highlights of the day were the Future Stars and All Stars winning their Grand Finals and me getting a buzzer beater score! Sean (Future Stars) The highlight for me today was winning a match and getting the ball. Dylan S (Rookies) All the teams played very well and tried hard. Kevin (Future Stars) We played at Slater Reserve and would like to thank all the teams that competed and all the support we got. Jack, Joshua and Harry (Rookies) The All Star teams played against Beverly Hills PS for our first match and lost by 1 point. We won against the Girls All Star teams. When we played in the Grand Final we played against Beverly Hills PS again. We won by 10 points and have made it to Regionals. Duncan, Lachlan and Alistair (All Stars) Well done to all the teams and we wish the Future Stars and All Stars all the best in the Regional Finals. 5 Cirque du Whitehorse At Box Hill Town Hall, the amazing Whitehorse Primary School students have put on the best circus ever, which blew our socks off!!! At the start we met the circus trainers. The circus teacher s names were Tom, Ben and Rose. We got one circus trainer to help us practise and pick our acts and show us how to do our pyramids. Our teachers took us for practices, the circus people took us for practices and the students went out at lunchtime and practiced!!! These were the skills that everyone got to try: Pois, Glow Pois, Hoops, mini hoops, spinning plates, scarves, juggling balls, stilts, devil sticks and diabolos. The circus teacher s names were Tom, Ben and Rose. It was fun trying out the different acts because it s good to try different things. On the night everyone had to get inside Box Hill Town Hall and get dressed up in their sparkly costumes. When they were ready they had to sit with their class. There was a lot of noise because everyone was excited and nervous. When the parents were sitting in their seats the show could start. The first act was Prep A. They had ribbons and put them under their legs. They threw the ribbons into the air and caught them. They were good. 1/2A was next to perform. They d had to be really quiet while the preps had their turn but now they stood on stage showing how to use the devil sticks. They wore coloured and sparkly tops. They showed us how to do the Bow-tie, rotating, and the throw and catch. They were excellent. 3/4A were the next act. They had spinning plates. While the plates were spinning they did the log roll, followed by the stick flip, superman and spinning the plates on their fingers! 3/4A was brilliant! Prep /1 A was next with the mini hoops. They also did mini thigh stands after which they twirled the hoops on their waists. The last skill they showed was called the elevator. They really were very good. The next act was 1/2B. They showed us how to do the castle, butterfly and Angel. They were fantastic.

6 Cirque du Whitehorse continued. 3/4B showed us how clever they were with hoops. The grade five and six students demonstrated their skills with the diabolos. It would have been tricky to throw and catch well under the bright lights. Prep B were very excited. For many of them it was the first time they had been on stage. They used scarves and the mini trampoline. They threw the scarves up and tried to catch them and they also threw the scarves under their legs. Prep B did a wonderful job. While some acts were being performed the juggler man was off stage practicing. He juggled rings, pins and balls. It was amazing. One of the highlights was the sock pois. They looked really great. It was also amazing when the lights were turned off and the students using the glow pois kept going so well in the darkness. They received a big round of applause. One surprise performance of the night was the teacher s clowning around act. Most of the teachers dressed up as clowns. It was hard to tell who everyone was because they had their faces painted to look like clowns, and wore wigs to disguise their hair and faces. They really looked like they were having fun as they bumped, jostled and fooled around as the audience cheered and clapped throughout. The grade 5 and 6 juggling was the last act of the night. The balance they made was spectacular. When the show finished everyone in the school was on stage and many mums and dads were taking photos of them. Thank you to Mrs Keats for setting up the circus and also thank you to Tom, Ben and Rose for coming to our school and helping us to learn how to do the tricks and Mrs. Martin for the sign and the beautiful clown paintings and letting us use your paints. Thank you to Mrs Wood for letting us have a chance to do the circus. Thank you to our teachers to get us organized. We bet that everybody loved the circus.
