1 August 2018 This institution is an equal Employment/Educational Opportunity provider. In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities. Dear Lebo Families: Welcome to the school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer vacation filled with fun and exciting memories with your loved ones. We are thrilled to welcome all of you back to a new school year of learning and growing. Personally, I am grateful and excited to continue this journey with you as your Principal. Over the last two years, I have had the opportunity to form relationships with many of you and your children. I look forward to building an even stronger relationship with all of you in the upcoming year. Celebrations - Last year we implemented preschool for every child 4 years of age. We also implemented a new career and academic planning class. We then implemented school sponsored college visits with alumni of the university. We also implemented a school community service project. We have increased opportunities for students to receive congruent credit for classes taken at Flint Hills Tech and Allen Community College. As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be engaging in conversations around having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students. We believe that every person in this building should always be growing and learning. This year we are also going to focus on the social-emotional growth of every student. Gymnasium update - Our gym has undergone some major changes this summer. The whole thing has been repainted. The carpet has come down and we will be installing a material called Tectum that is a special sound absorbing board where the carpet was. We are upgrading the ventilation system with a set of powered louvers to open with the exhaust fans. And of course the new seating. We are working very hard to make sure that we get it done by our first home volleyball game. I would like to thank all of those who have helped and supported our gym restoration project. Big thank you s go to the following: Superintendent Reese, USD #243 Board of Education and Lebo Booster Club for supporting the project. Thank you to Brian Hadley, Jordan Ford, Janet Reese, Jamie Humlicek, Amanda Ford, Rochelle Wurm, Alexandria Wurm, Victoria Wurm, and Kyle Reese for painting. Also, thank you to the summer weights class, the Peek family, Ronnie Stevens, and Keith Glissman for helping with the teardown and cleanup. It is looking great so far! Playground update - This year our Lebo Ag Department has made some updates to our playground. First, they replaced the trash can receptacle that was a safety concern with a nicer and safer receptacle. They reset the bench that was on the playground. They are currently in the process of installing two soccer goals they constructed in the spring. The ag department students will also be installing some new tether-ball poles. We added several truckloads of rock which was spread out over the playground by the class of 2022! We are also in the process of buying age-appropriate toys for our preschool and kindergarten students. Be looking for the school bus spring toy, which will be added in loving memory of Jerry Adkins. He was a major fixture in our community and school and will be remembered for generations to come. Lastly, I would like to remind everyone about the safety of the student getting to and from school. Please talk with your child(ren) about driving to school as our school has many students walking and riding bikes to school. Parents of walkers: please remind students of the do s and don ts of walking to school and crossing streets. The safety of your children is our top priority, and we will always do everything we can to keep your students safe, healthy, and happy. As always, please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns. Sincerely, Duane Ford Principal
