Spring is now here with warmer weather on the way, but we have also been blessed with many beautiful days this winter to play bowls. It has been great to see everyone still out each day participating. I would like to bring to your attention to some great NEWS. As you would already know, renovations are now in full swing. We appreciate your patience during this process and are trying to minimise the disturbance as much so possible. The bistro is running out of the top lounge on a minimum but delicious menu. This will change from day to day. They will still be trading from 12noon 2pm for lunch every day and from 5-8pm every day for dinner service. The reception is set up on the entry door at the back of the club and is fully operational. At reception you can also purchase from the selection of take-away bottle shop items on offer. The bar & gaming area will still be operating as normal. Our Annual General Meeting has been set for the 22 nd of September at 8.30am. Voting for Board positions will be conducted prior to the meeting so please read the notice carefully. Annual reports will be available to full bowling members in the coming weeks from reception. I encourage all full members to attend. Kevin Bertwistle General Manager Friday 19 th July years on 4 kids, 10 grandkids, 1 great granddaughter and another great grandchild on the way. 2 Page

Since our last chronical report 2 months ago quite a lot has happened around our club. The water tower has finally been painted and with the blue colours and turtles it is now no longer an eye sore. There is only one championship left to be run between now and December and that is the men s C Grade singles which our games director is putting together at the moment for all those bowlers who have not been bowling longer than 5 years and have not won a B grade or above championship. Those interested please watch the men s notice board for nomination forms, dates etc. Our club has just hosted the Zone Play Offs for the Champion of Champion s singles, pairs and the fours. This was played from four districts Brisbane, North Brisbane, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast. Unfortunately, none of our Bribie Bowlers made it through to these play offs. Next year these Zone Play Offs will only be played between Brisbane, the new district Morton Bay and the Sunshine Coast. Venue to be advised next year. MORTON BAY DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION. To keep you all informed on the progress of combining both Caboolture and Brisbane North into this new district, where we are up to at the moment is the new constitution has been drafted and approved by the nineteen clubs that will make up the above district. This constitution has now been forwarded to the Government Authorities for their approval, which will take several weeks. The delegates from each of the clubs in the new district have appointed an interim committee of three members from Brisbane North and three from Caboolture to continue the process of the amalgamation of the two districts into the new one. Peter Lovell from Brisbane North will be interim President, Alan Thorpe (Caboolture) Vice President, John De Ernst (BN) Secretary who are the executive committee along with Peter Goudge, Bob Fraser and Ken Ward who make up your interim committee whose jobs are to formulate this association. These jobs will involve setting up bank accounts, design and have approved new district uniforms, appoint a new Chairman of Selectors, appoint a District Coach and have all district affairs in order before commencement of the new District on the 1 st January In late February/March 2019 the first AGM will be held where a new committee will be elected by the delegates for the ensuing year The new designed uniform (yet to be approved by the delegates) does look very smart with both the shorts and the long pants. The actual shirt brings together the ocean and the rural aspects of the Morton landscape. A sample will be available shortly for the bowlers to view. 3 Page

YOUR WRONG BIAS DONATIONS. A huge Thank you from Meals on Wheels Bribie to all you bowlers who make contributions to it. A special Thanks to Max, Tony, Martin and Jack who make regular contributions. I presented a cheque to Jodie the Manager of the Meals on Wheels on Bribie, who are at Woorim, for $500 which will contribute to many meals for those in need in our community. This charity was chosen by the Men s Committee as they are a local non-for-profit organisation. Peter Goudge presenting the donation to Jodie from Meals on Wheels Bribie. THE DISTRICT PENNANTS. Just for the members information the number 2 Pennants was won by Solander Lakes, the number 3 Pennants was won by Woodford, the number 4 and 5 s Pennants are still being played over the next few weeks with in the 4 s Solander Lakes are leading and look like winning and in the 5 s it will be between Donnybrook and Caboolture Lakes. Final results of the pennants will be advised. IN HOUSE PENNANTS. This competition was played of a five-week period and involved over 50 bowlers. A big Thank You to the Board of Management who allowed the Men s Club to re-direct all green fees back to the players through prize money which resulted in $1,400 being distributed to not only the winners and runners up but to rink winners as well. This fours competition was very well received by all involved who enjoyed the rivalry, comradery and competition bowls this In House format presented. Well done to the Selectors who each week made sure that each team was very competitive as the results showed. 4 Page

THE MEN S CLUB AGM. The Men s Club AGM is on Saturday 6 th October at 08.30am. The Men s Secretary, Alan Thorpe, will in the next few weeks be calling for nominations for the various committee roles that will be coming up for election. We need people like you to nominate as new committee members to be involved with the running of bowls for the 2018/19 season. The Men s Club can not operate without a dedicated committee who not only have the club at heart but men s bowls in general. IS THIS YOU? Will you put your hand up to be part of our new committee? As this is my last Chronicle Report for my current years Presidency I would just like to take this opportunity to thank my Committee for their support, hard work and dedication to the running of the Men s Club which ensured that we could all bowl each day with the minimum of fuss or disruptions. I would also like to thank the Board of Management. Finally, to you the members it has been a privilege and an honour to be your President and would like to wish the new Committee, who ever they may be, all of the very best for the upcoming year. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay positive, enjoy life and may your bowls be full of touches. Your President Peter Goudge 5 Page

Veterans Report Hello Everyone, Well it's report time again. This will be my last Chronicle report as your President and it will be my shortest. I will leave all I want to say about my two years as your President for my Annual report for the AGM, which will be held on the 8th October. Our visit in from the Wynnum Manly War Veterans was still a good day even though no bowls. They enjoyed the lunch and afternoon tea and the company. Hopefully we will be able to visit them in return next year. It was so lovely to see Colleen Guerin come down to join us for a while. Colleen told me she loved her visit, so many hugs and kisses. Good on you Colleen. I must close by saying it has been an honour and privilege to be your President for the last two years. THANK YOU TO ALL CONCERNED, ALL TAKE CARE AND HAPPY BOWLING. President Eileen SEPTEMBER 3rd Coral Halley 5th Don Gittens 13th Bob Garfield 19th Don Mitchell 22nd Gordon Bentzen OCTOBER 2nd Lillian Law 8th Colin Smith 9th Patricia Gee 22nd Lorna Hackwood Veterans Birthdays nd Norm Neill 28th Joan Dunn 29th Ron Leth 29th Ross Hunter 22nd Nola Morley 28th Col Christiansen 30th Judy Noonan 31st Frank Reid HAPPY 80th to no less than 10 of our Veterans From the Games Director: Well, life has been a bit of a struggle for the Vets Section lately. We had only 21 for our trip to Windsor, and on our last play day when we had a visit in from Wynnum Manly War Veterans and we had to call off play because of rain. Then to top it all off our planned trip to Samford had to be postponed because of our lack of numbers and also low numbers from the Samford Club players. It is good to see Carol Bonney back in action, but It is sad to see Eric Donaldson leave the club for family reasons, and we wish him well. Anyway, I am the eternal optimist and hope our luck will change shortly. For the players who have supported us, many thanks, and for those who could not make it, we hope to see you soon. Neil Ramage NOTICE: We have a Visit-In by Robina Bowls Club Sunday 23rd September. Please add your name to the game sheet for our September play day. 11 Page

Above: Sad to farewell Eric Donaldson, who has been such a loyal member over the years, but family health comes first in the decision to move back to Sydney. Eric gave a lovely farewell speech. We wish them all the best. President Eileen. Left: New Veteran member, Ken Lang receives his birthday acknowledgment from Secretary Carmel. Welcome Ken. 12 Page
