PREMIER PARTNER OF THE VFL

Welcome to season 2017 Where has the time gone? Time certainly feels like it has flown since the Sandringham Dragons were crowned the 2016 TAC Cup premiers back in September at Etihad Stadium. Since then, six of those premiership players were among eight Dragons including four of the top seven NAB AFL Draft selections drafted to the big league, with Grand Final best-on-ground Andrew McGrath selected at no.1 by Essendon. They were among 58 TAC Cup players who were drafted or rookied at last year s drafts. While all the focus at draft time is quite rightly on the players, we must recognise the many people who played a part in the journey of each of our players towards realising their dream of reaching the AFL. From coaches and administrators at a community level, to the Talent Managers, coaches and staff in the regions that helped along the journey, everyone played their part in developing these players to be ready for the AFL adventure ahead. As the AFL season kicks off alongside the TAC Cup season this weekend, we look forward to the debuts made by our former players. We have already seen a number of them pull on the jumper during the JLT Series, but there is nothing more special than seeing the players presented with their jumpers and run onto the field for the first time. It has certainly been an exciting pre-season for our 12 TAC Cup regions with the introduction of the TAC Cup Girls competition. Over a number of years, regions have introduced Girls Academies through the support of TAC. With the rapid growth in female participation, 2017 will be the first time all regions will be represented by a female team, leading to the birth of TAC Cup Girls. For all our players and staff, best of luck for season Steven Reaper AFL Victoria CEO Contents 3 19 TAC Cup season preview 20 TAC Cup Girls 21 TAC Cup News 23 The Big League Get Social 26 AFL Vic News TAC Cup Club Notes 56 Quiz Who s playing who Calder vs Eastern Gippsland vs Dandenong Geelong vs GWV Murray vs Bendigo Sandringham vs Oakleigh Western vs Northern TAC Cup U16 country teams TAC Cup Girls teams Ikon Park, Gate 3, Royal Parade, Carlton Nth, VIC 3054 GPO Box 4337, Melbourne, VIC 3001 Phone: (03) Fax: (03) Editor: Ben Pollard ben.pollard@afl.com.au Contributors: Anthony Stanguts, Kirstie Fitzgerald Design & Print: Mystique Photos: AFL Photos (unless otherwise credited) Advertising: Rosanna Butler (03) Cover: Sandringham Dragons head coach Jeremy Barnard (left) and captain Hamish Brayshaw hold the 2016 TAC Cup premiership cup aloft 1

TAC Cup season preview The AFL Victoria Record has chatted to all 12 TAC Cup clubs about their prospects for season 2017 to get a gauge on which team might emerge with this year s premiership cup come September. 3

BENDIGO PIONEERS (Comments from Talent Manager Stephen Sharp) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 11th (4-14) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Keelin Betson / =2. Darby Henderson and Laine Fitzgerald 2016 DRAFTEES: Joseph Atley (pick no.32 to Port Adelaide) / Kobe Mutch (no.42 to Essendon) / Kayle Kirby (no.50 to Collingwood) / Fergus Greene (no.70 to Western Bulldogs) 2017 COACH: Rick Coburn (first season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Jarrod Brander (four games, 10 goals, ave. 13 disposals and six marks in 2016): Jarrod s clearly one of our leading draft candidates. He s a key forward/ key defender and he s attending Geelong Grammar on a scholarship for cricket and football. He s part of the AFL Academy. Lochie O Brien (five games, ave. 24 disposals and seven marks in 2016): Lochie s a left-foot half back/ outside midfielder who s counted as a fairly strong draft prospect. He played for Vic Country in the U18 Championships last year as a bottom-ager. He s in the AFL Academy and on a scholarship to Geelong Grammar. Paddy Dow (eight games, ave. 22 disposals in 2016): Paddy s a hard-working inside midfielder and another Geelong Grammar scholarship holder. He won the school team s best-and-fairest in 2015 and 2016 and became the only Year 10 student to have ever won the award in the history of the school in He was recently included into the AFL Academy. Brent Daniels (three games, four goals, ave. 20 disposals and five tackles in 2016): Brent s a smaller defender who can play through the middle and up forward, so he s probably more of a hybrid sort of player. He was a Vic Country U16 player in 2015 and had a meniscus injury last year so he hardly played any footy. He s fit and raring to go this year and we think he s a good draft possibility. Kane Farrell (16 games, ave. 17 disposals and four marks in 2016): Kane s a half back/inside midfielder with an excellent kick and we reckon he s a pretty strong draft prospect. He attends Bendigo Senior Secondary College and is involved in our specialised football program there. He s in the AFL Academy as well. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Angus Schumacher (15 games, ave. 14 disposals in 2016): Angus is a medium-sized half back/half forward who will probably play through the midfield as well. He s a pretty good sort of player and is probably one of those ones AFL clubs are speculating on a little bit. OVER-AGER TO WATCH: Cooper Jones (nine games, six goals, ave. 16 disposals and five marks in 2016): Cooper had a bad run of injuries last year. He represented Vic Country in the U18 Championships. He s a mediumsized half back/half forward and we think he has draft prospects, but he just needs to get his body right. He ll be a later starter this year he ll probably be ready to go in about June but we re not too concerned about that, as we had Fergus Greene drafted last year and he only played the last three games for us. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Jacob Atley: Bottom-age brother of Shaun (132 AFL games for North Melbourne) and Joseph (drafted to Port Adelaide in 2016). TEAM PROSPECTS: We re just hoping to be a little more competitive this year. In 2015 we only had 10 bottom-agers who actually played, so only 10 of our top-agers last year had match experience. Last year I think we had 31 bottom-agers play so that should hold us in good stead in regards to kids understanding what the program s about this year. We think we ll be fairly competitive if we can get our best team on the field together as there s some good top-end talent, but with AFL Academy players, GWS Academy players, Allies players and Geelong Grammar players, we re not going to see a lot of five or six of them. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: Our new head coach Rick Coburn has been going really well. He s super organised and is really rolling his sleeves up and working really hard. We ve also recruited some really experienced assistant coaches and members of our support coaching team, including Brett Warburton who coached the Shepparton Swans to the 2014 premiership in the Goulburn Valley league. Former Bendigo Pioneer and Hawthorn premiership player Rick Ladson s coming back to do some one-on-one work with our kids. We ve also appointed Danny O Bree as a development coach, who s coached successfully in the Sunraysia league and Mildura and through to Central Murray down to South Bendigo in the Bendigo league. 4

CALDER CANNONS (Comments from Talent Manager Ian Kyte) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 7th (8-10) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Ben Ronke / 2. Zach Guthrie / 3. Brad Bernacki 2016 DRAFTEES: Mitch Lewis (pick no.76 to Hawthorn) / Ben Ronke (rookie pick no.17 to Sydney) / Zach Guthrie (rookie pick no.33 to Geelong) 2017 COACH: Andrew Johnston (third season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Noah Balta (eight games, 18 goals, ave. 12 disposals and nine hitouts in 2016): Noah s a key forward with a strong mark and strong kick. He s an aggressive player and he plays a lot on instinct. He s dramatically improved his footy over the last seven or eight months and was elevated into the AFL Academy last year. He can probably play in defence and in the ruck but I think AFL clubs want to see him predominantly as a power forward. At 193/194cm he could nearly play as an on-baller, which we did with him a couple of times last year. Brad Bernacki (18 games, ave. 15 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Brad s an inside midfielder. His attack on the ball would be one of his main strengths and he s a good leader and good communicator. He did some good things last year and I think if he displays some of that form then he could push his way into the Vic Metro squad. He s a baby top-ager a November birth. Ben Caluzzi (14 games, ave. 17 disposals in 2016): Ben is a strong-bodied inside midfielder who s an elite kick off both sides of his body. He played a bit of half forward, half back and midfield last year. He s a lot fitter than he was in 2016, so he s giving himself the best opportunity. Two years ago he was in the Vic Metro squad and didn t make the team but I think he can really push for that this year. Daniel Hanna (four games, ave. six disposals in 2016): Daniel s had a lot of injury trouble, so after playing for Vic Metro and coming pretty close to AFL Academy selection in 2015 he missed all bar four games last year. He s 197cm and quite light at the moment so he needs to work on his strength, but he marks well and I think he s going to be an interesting prospect. He s another baby top-ager he s not 18 until the end of November. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Aidan Tilley (11 games, ave. 11 disposals in 2016): A few AFL clubs looked at Aidan last year as a rookie prospect so they were keen to see him play again. He s been through all our squads, but as a private-school player last year he was only available at certain times. We re giving him an opportunity to play more consistently with us this year. He s predominantly a key defender but can go through the midfield, so we ll give him an opportunity to play in a few positions and see how he goes. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Mason Fletcher: Bottom-age son of Dustin (400 AFL games for Essendon from ). Rhylee West: Bottom-age son of Scott (324 AFL games for the Western Bulldogs from ). Aidan Tilley: Over-age son of Paul (13 AFL games for Fitzroy from , two AFL games for St Kilda in 1987). TEAM PROSPECTS: We have a pretty similar group to last year s. I think our bottom-agers are a really good group that could push the top-agers a bit further than last year s. I think we ll be in a similar finishing position, around that fourth to sixth mark. Being able to play a final would be a good result for the group and if they could win a final, that d be a tremendous result. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We ve added two new coaches. Brett Gourley, who did a bit of work with us last year, is going to be an assistant coach. He s coached the EDFL U18s for the last five or six years. Also, Russell Humphrey who works with us in administration is going to be an assistant coach. Unfortunately one of our coaches had to pull out due to work commitments in late December, so we were left without an assistant and bringing in somebody from outside in late January/early February would have made things pretty hard. With Russ having previously worked with the U16s and in match-day roles for the U18s, it was the best fit for us. 5

DANDENONG STINGRAYS (Comments from Talent Manager Mark Wheeler) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 5th (14-5) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: =1. Tom Glen and Myles Poholke / 3. Nathan Scagliarini 2016 DRAFTEES: Josh Battle (pick no.39 to St Kilda) / Myles Poholke (no.44 to Adelaide) / Mitch McCarthy (rookie pick no.7 to Collingwood) 2017 COACH: Craig Black (fourth season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: You can t really go past the five players we ve got in the AFL Academy: Hunter Clark (12 games, ave. 16 disposals in 2016): Hunter s a medium-sized defender but he s also shown he can play as an inside midfielder. His strength as a back-line player is that he reads the ball so well and creates time and space, so he s got plenty of time to make decisions. He s very proficient on both sides of his body by foot and as brave as they come. Oscar Clavarino (seven games, ave. 10 disposals and three marks in 2016): Oscar s probably the no.1 key defender in the TAC Cup. He s got some running ability and really good closing speed and he s got the go-go-gadget arms so he can close down space in the air pretty quickly. He s a multi-purpose player and that s why we rate him so highly. Luke Davies-Uniacke (two games in 2016): Luke s a beast of an inside midfielder. His clean hands are unique, his ability above his head and his body strength are his strengths. Aaron Darling (16 games, six goals, ave. 11 disposals in 2016): Aaron s done an ACL, so we probably won t get to see him play this year. I think he was the best kick in the draft and he s a beast of a small inside midfielder. He takes a new role now as an assistant midfield coach where he ll sit with the players and go through vision. Tom De Koning (11 games, 17 goals, ave. five disposals and 10 hitouts in 2016): Tom s now basically sitting on 200cm and is a genuine forward with really good hands and a really sweet kicking style. He also has the ability to go into the ruck but we ll play him mostly as a key forward. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Aiden Bonar (two games in 2016): Aiden s coming back from a second ACL operation. He returned after his first one last year but it didn t hold so they had to re-do it. He ll be ready to go around May/June. I rate him as high as our players who are already in the AFL Academy program. He s 190cm and nearly 90kg and he s just a beast. He can play as an inside midfielder, he can play forward and he can play back. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Bailey Morrish (18 games, ave. 13 disposals in 2016): I m not sure why Bailey didn t get taken in the drafts last year. Every AFL club we re talking to at the moment is saying they were surprised but they just didn t have enough picks. He s a genuine half back flanker, but we re going to play him up around the ball a bit more and throw him forward this year. He s matured off the field and is training the house down. TEAM PROSPECTS: Our biggest issue will be having five AFL Academy players and rotating them in and out when they ve got their school football commitments. When we re able to put our best team on the park, I think we re going to be a very challenging proposition, but then the other thing is that a lot of our bottom-agers are key-position players and as part of our program we ll look to develop a couple. We ve also probably added a little bit more speed, and I think last year we might have been a bit stronger defensively but I reckon we have a better forward structure and midfield structure this year. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: With Wayne Siekman being appointed Collingwood s AFL Women s coach, we lost our senior assistant, so we elevated Nick Cox to become senior assistant coach and brought in three other new coaches to the program. Rob Railton was a pretty successful player for Gippsland Power and coached in his own right locally as well. He s doing all the player development programs and he ll end up really being a mentor for (head coach) Craig Black. We ve elevated Josh Bourke, who was our U16 coach and a Vic Country U16 assistant coach last year. Peter Freeman has come into the program a bit more too. He s doing the U16s but also a bit more with our U18s. 7

EASTERN RANGES (Comments from Talent Manager Len Villani) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 8th (7-11) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Dylan Clarke / 2. Josh Begley / 3. Tom North 2016 DRAFTEES: Jordan Gallucci (pick no.15 to Adelaide) / Josh Begley (no.31 to Essendon) / Callum Brown (no.35 to Collingwood) / Jack Maibaum (no.45 to Sydney) / Dylan Clarke (no.63 to Essendon) / Nathan Mullenger-McHugh (rookie pick no.18 to Western Bulldogs) / Tristan Tweedie (Next Generation Academy rookie signing to Western Bulldogs) 2017 COACH: Darren Bewick (eighth season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Jaidyn Stephenson (11 games, 23 goals, ave. 14 disposals and six marks in 2016): Jaidyn s a really dynamic half forward. He s powerful, has great speed, a really nice feel for the game and can win a match off his own boot. He s in the AFL Academy. Sam Hayes (16 games, ave. 12 disposals, three marks and 22 hitouts in 2016): Sam s a mobile ruckman with a basketball background. He s got beautiful hands in the ruck and hits to advantage really well. He can also take a mark around the ground and be dangerous when he goes forward. He s an AFL Academy member and was All Australian last year. Joel Garner (six games, four goals, ave. 15 disposals, four marks and four tackles in 2016): Joel s really strong in terms of his attack over the football, good in the air for his size and dangerous when he goes forward. He s a real natural footballer. We ll probably try to push him through the midfield and wing a bit more this year. He s an amazing leader and person to have around the football club. He s also in the AFL Academy. Tom North (10 games, eight goals, ave. 20 disposals and six tackles in 2016): Tom s a strong-bodied midfielder with great power and penetration in his kicking. He would have won our best-and-fairest last year if he didn t break his ankle halfway through the season. He s been working really diligently and we re trying to get him up for Round 1. Harrison Nolan (16 games, ave. eight disposals in 2016): Harrison s really competitive, a great runner for his size and he s just got a real desire and competitiveness about him. He played all his junior footy as a forward before we sent him down back last year and he did a great job. Trent Mynott (seven games, five goals, ave. 17 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Trent s a beautiful natural footballer with great vision and is really damaging with his possessions by foot. He plays like a Shaun Burgoyne (of Hawthorn), who can have only 10 or 15 disposals but still have a really big influence on the game. Jackson Ross (nine games, five goals, ave. 14 disposals in 2016): Jackson s a former elitelevel tennis player who only really came into the program two years ago. His athletic ability is very good, so he can play in the midfield, on a wing, at half back or half forward. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Jordan Lynch (nine games, five goals, ave. 10 disposals in 2016): Jordan played with injury last year. I m convinced he s an AFL footballer, he s just had no luck with his body. He s a really powerful, nuggety ball-winner who can then hurt teams with his speed on the outside and the penetration and power of his kicking. He ll play predominantly through the midfield and also as that dangerous fourth or fifth forward. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Tyler Brown: Top-age son of Gavin (254 AFL games for Collingwood from ) and brother of Callum (drafted to Collingwood in 2016). TEAM PROSPECTS: We think it s going to be a very similar season to last year where when we ve got our best team available, we re going to be pretty competitive. I d be disappointed if we didn t play at least one or two finals I think that would be the pass mark for us. We re going to have a fair few private-schoolers though, and I d also expect eight to ten Vic Metro representatives in that middle part of the year. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We ve been able to promote some guys from our U16 program. Danny Ryan is one of them he s going to look after our midfield. Danny s a former Eastern Ranges player so he s gone full circle, and he s a bit of a local legend in the AFL Yarra Ranges. Jay Cheep has also come on board as one of our U18 development coaches he s a former Calder Cannon, Vic Metro representative and Geelong VFL premiership player. 8

GEELONG FALCONS (Comments from Talent Manager Michael Turner) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 3rd (14-5) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Jack Blood / 2. Max Augerinos / 3. Joel Bennett 2016 DRAFTEES: Alex Witherden (pick no.23 to Brisbane) / Sean Darcy (no.38 to Fremantle) / Jack Henry (rookie pick no.16 to Geelong) / Sam Simpson (rookie pick no.53 to Geelong) 2017 COACH: Daniel O Keefe (first season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: James Worpel (15 games, 11 goals, ave. 20 disposals and six tackles in 2016): James is a very strong midfielder in the mould of (Collingwood s) Taylor Adams or (North Melbourne s) Ben Cunnington. He s a very similar player to them but he s a lot quicker he s more explosive and he s a much better runner. Nothing fazes him. He s in the AFL Academy. Cassidy Parish (19 games, ave. 19 disposals in 2016): Cassidy s a lot different to his brother Darcy (currently at Essendon) he s not as polished but he s a really big midfielder. He s a great stoppage player and he exits the packs really well and racks up lots of possessions. A lot of AFL recruiters would be interested in him to replace those big midfielders like (Sydney s) Josh Kennedy or (Essendon s) Jobe Watson he sort of fits that mould. Adam Garner (three games in 2016): Adam s a cousin of (St Kilda s) Paddy McCartin and he plays a similar position he ll play as a full forward/ centre half forward this year. I think Paddy s more mobile but Adam s got himself really fit after having a few injuries in the past. He played for Vic Country U16s two years ago and just needs to have an injury-free season and put it together. Ethan Floyd (11 games, five goals, ave. 14 disposals in 2016): Ethan s a left-foot winger who s an elite runner. He s running exceptional times in our 2km time trials. He s really matured and pushed himself this pre-season. Matthew Ling (five games, ave. nine disposals in 2016): Matthew s another winger who played with us in the finals last year. He looks a likely type as well. Cooper Stephens (11 games, ave. 14 disposals in 2016): Cooper plays on a half back flank and will probably go into the midfield this year. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Gryan Miers (five games, three goals, ave. 13 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Gryan played some games towards the end of last year and surprised us as an on-baller. He s a bit like (the Western Bulldogs ) Luke Dahlhaus. He went back to his local senior club Grovedale and dominated in their finals campaign until they got knocked out. He ran under six minutes in a 2km time trial over the pre-season, so you ve got to take notice of the kid because he s a running machine. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Hayden Elliot (19 games, ave. nine disposals and 16 hitouts in 2016): Hayden probably should have been playing in a key position last year but we don t usually have many talls and he had to play in the ruck. We ll give him another run this year as a centre half forward/centre half back because that s where AFL recruiters want to see him play. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Cassidy Parish: top-age brother of Darcy (20 AFL games for Essendon). Peterson Kol: over-age son of Michael (63 AFL games for Geelong from ). Oscar Brownless: bottom-age son of Billy (198 AFL games for Geelong from ). Baxter Mensch: bottom-age son of David (158 AFL games for Geelong from ). TEAM PROSPECTS: I thought we d struggle to make the top eight last year and the boys did really well to get to a preliminary final and spend most of the season on top or in second on the ladder. They were a really even group. They played really well as a team and got 100 per cent out of themselves. I m not 100 per cent sure about this year s group, but I know they can run so that s going to help. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: Our new head coach Daniel O Keefe is just what I m after. He came from Warrnambool, played with the Falcons and got drafted at pick no.15 in 2006 by Sydney. He unfortunately had a lot of injuries and that curtailed his career (no AFL games in three seasons with the Swans). He was also very close to being a professional golfer, so he understands sport and the disappointment that can come with it. He fits all the criteria that I look for in a coach. All our line coaches around Daniel are basically new too. 9

GIPPSLAND POWER (Comments from head coach Leigh Brown) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 9th (6-12) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Josh Patullo / 2. Will Leslie / 3. Sean Masterson 2016 DRAFTEES: Ben Ainsworth (pick no.4 to Gold Coast) 2017 COACH: Leigh Brown (fourth season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Tyrone Hayes (five games, three goals, ave. 12 disposals in 2016): Tyrone s a small, quick indigenous player who can play off half back, in the midfield or up forward. He has very good evasive skills and uses the ball really well. He s in Hawthorn s Next Generation Academy. Aidan Quigley (10 games, ave. 12 disposals in 2016): Aidan s probably been more of a small/ medium-sized forward previously but we ll see him push into the midfield this year. He s got a very good sidestep and he s good overhead. He s in the AFL Academy. Changkuoth Jiath (10 games, ave. 11 disposals and four tackles in 2016): CJ s very skilful with a great kick on the left and right foot, and he has elite endurance. He can play anywhere on the ground so he s very versatile. He s of Ethiopian background and fits into the Next Generation Academy with Hawthorn. He s also in the AFL Academy. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKETS: Austin Hodge (15 games, 17 goals, ave. 10 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Austin s about 190/191cm and he could play forward and midfield. He has nice clean hands and he s got a bit of X-factor about him. He played about three quarters of last year but was a bit hindered by a hip injury, so he s had some surgery and he s building back into his training now. Nick Hogan (13 games, ave. 13 disposals in 2016): Nick s probably more of a genuine midfielder. He s about 180cm but he s got big, strong, powerful leg speed and breaks away from contests. He s a real ball-winner. He missed some games in the middle of last year through injury so that certainly put a big hole in his season. OVER-AGE PLAYERS TO WATCH: Will Leslie (15 games, ave. 17 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Will s about 193/194cm and can play in the midfield, back line or forward line, so we think he s very versatile. He s got lightning speed and is a very good kick. He had an interrupted pre-season last year and didn t play any practice games, but he s had a good pre-season up to this point. He ll be used mainly through the midfield this year he had a taste in there last year which was probably the first time he s played in the midfield, so he s learnt a lot and we expect him to really improve. Sean Masterson (18 games, ave. 10 disposals and three marks in 2016): Sean can play as a key forward and key defender. Last year was his first in the program so it was a really steep learning curve for him. He started last year as a forward and finished the season as a back, and he ll probably start up forward again this year. Julian Patterson (five games, ave. five disposals and 13 hitouts in 2016): It was Julian s first year in the program last year. He s got a great vertical jump and is athletically very gifted for a guy of 203cm. He s the brother of Eleanor who represented Australia at the Rio Olympics in the high jump. He was involved in basketball and athletics as a junior. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Will Leslie: Over-age brother of Jack (six AFL games for Gold Coast). TEAM PROSPECTS: We had a good group of bottom-agers last year who all came through together and we hope they can lead the way this year. We ve also got some good bottom-agers who we think will get some really good experience and a lot of game time this year as well, so we ll hope to improve on what we did last year. The boys will take a lot of confidence out of finishing last year well (four wins in the last five games) and we ve seen in previous years that can hold the next season s group in really good stead. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We haven t made any for this year. 10

GWV REBELS (Comments from Talent Manager Phil Partington) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 6th (12-7) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Hugh McCluggage / 2. Willem Drew / 3. Callan Wellings 2016 DRAFTEES: Hugh McCluggage (pick no.3 to Brisbane) / Jarrod Berry (no.17 to Brisbane) / Cedric Cox (no.24 to Brisbane) / Willem Drew (no.33 to Port Adelaide) / Tom Williamson (no.61 to Carlton) / Jamaine Jones (rookie pick no.48 to Geelong) 2017 COACH: Gerard FitzGerald (second season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Aiden Domic (11 games, ave. 13 disposals and four marks in 2016): Aiden s a player AFL clubs really like not just because of his skill assets but also his endurance base. He s a hard-running midfielder who uses the ball very well but also has a very high work rate. He played the majority of games for us last year as a half back flanker/ winger but he ll go on-ball this year. He s an indigenous boy who s gone through the Kickstart programs and played Vic Country U16s as well. Jordan Johnston (15 games, 26 goals, ave. 11 disposals in 2016): Jordan played some good TAC Cup footy last year and kicked a bag of seven goals against the Sandringham Dragons. He s a small to medium forward and a bit of a jackrabbit who likes jumping at the football, but he knows where the goals are as well. We ll use him as a lead-up forward and on the ball this year to develop other parts of his game. Unfortunately he had an ankle injury late last year which he had operated on, so he s done no pre-season and I don t expect him to be playing in probably the first couple of rounds. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Dale Cox (not on list in 2016): We had Dale s cousin (and subsequent Brisbane draftee) Cedric Cox on our list last year. Dale moved down from Halls Creek earlier in 2017 and he s a top-age player. He s got really good leg speed and some good skills about him as well. We re excited to see how he develops in a full-time TAC Cup environment and if an AFL club will be excited by what they see. He s similar to Cedric in terms of his running capabilities and his speed at the moment. OVER-AGE PLAYERS TO WATCH: Lloyd Meek (15 games, seven goals, ave. 10 disposals, four tackles and 15 hitouts in 2016): Lloyd was a Vic Country ruckman last year. We know ruckmen develop later and Lloyd s grown since last season he s 202cm now and he s a bit thicker in the body as well. We just need him to make a bigger impact on games and be a bit more aggressive around the football, so that s one thing he s been working really hard on. Callan Wellings (16 games, ave. 22 disposals and five marks in 2016): Callan was probably unlucky not to get an opportunity at the drafts last year, but he was injured for basically the first half of the year. Seeing him fully fit towards the end of 2016 was really encouraging for us. He s working extremely hard on his contested football, and training with North Ballarat s VFL team this pre-season has helped him with that. He ll be a great leader for our football club and really show the younger boys in the program the required training level and attitude. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Thomas Berry: Bottom-age brother of Jarrod (drafted to Brisbane in 2016). Matthew Lloyd: Bottom-age brother of Jake (69 AFL games for Sydney). TEAM PROSPECTS: I think we had a very high-end talent base last year and we re going to be a lot more even across the board this year. I also think we re going to be more of a bottom-age team than we were last year. The one thing (head coach) Gerard FitzGerald and I have spoken about is making the team a really competitive team, so we re going to have really no stand-out players. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We ve introduced two new assistant coaches. Ash Baker was the head coach of the Ballarat Football Club for the last four years and he s a school teacher at Ballarat High School. Joe Carmody has coached in his own right at SMW Rovers Senior Football Club and was at the Ballarat Football Club last year as director of coaching, and he s a high-level teacher at St Patrick s College. Also, Leigh Marriott s coming in to be one of our development coaches. He s been involved with North Ballarat s VFL program for quite a few years. 12

MURRAY BUSHRANGERS (Comments from head coach Leon Higgins) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 2nd (13-6-1) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. James Cousins / =2. Lachlan Tiziani and Ryan Garthwaite 2016 DRAFTEES: Will Brodie (pick no.9 to Gold Coast) / Jy Simpkin (no.12 to North Melbourne) / Todd Marshall (no.16 to Port Adelaide) / Esava Ratugolea (no.43 to Geelong) / Lachlan Tiziani (no.54 to GWS) / Ryan Garthwaite (no.72 to Richmond) / Harry Morrison (no.74 to Hawthorn) / James Cousins (rookie pick no.46 to Hawthorn) / Max Lynch (rookie pick no.51 to Collingwood) / Zach Sproule (pre-list rookie selection by GWS) 2017 COACH: Leon Higgins (second season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECT: Charlie Spargo (eight games, eight goals, ave. 18 disposals in 2016): Charlie s a small forward/ on-baller. He s from Albury in NSW. He ll play in the Division 2 U18 Championships in their squad and I imagine he ll play for the Allies in Division 1 as well. He played some very good footy for us last year and he was very good for NSW/ACT as well. We re really hopeful for Charlie s draft chances this year. He s an AFL Academy player. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKETS: Doulton Langlands (16 games, ave. 14 disposals in 2016): Doulton was one of our best bottomage players last year. He s a very quick player and he s really built his strength up this year. He s a really good size 188cm and 80kg now and he s a terrific athlete with power and speed. We think he ll attract the attention of AFL clubs. He ll be an academy player for the Giants as well. Daniel Johnston (seven games, four goals, ave. eight disposals in 2016): Daniel s another boy from NSW. He ll be a key forward and he ll play a little bit in the ruck for us as well. We think he s got the size and the power to attract a lot of attention. Jordon Butts (11 games, ave. 13 disposals and three marks in 2016): Jordon s a 197cm key defender and he can also go forward. He played some good footy for us last year as a bottomage player. He s actually born on the 31st of December so he ll play all his TAC Cup football as a 16-year-old and 17-year-old. We think he s a good prospect. David Smith (not on list in 2016): We ve just uncovered David this year he was doing a bit of work with the Laguntas program at Richmond. He s a top-age indigenous boy who has phenomenal speed he consistently runs 2.7 seconds in the 20m sprint which is elite. We re hoping to use his explosive speed and power and improve his footy this year. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Nick Richards (18 games, 15 goals, ave. 17 disposals in 2016): Nick was a bit of a bolter at the end of last year and attracted a bit of attention from AFL clubs. He was named our best player in the finals so we ll be looking for some more improvement from him. He ll play more of a role around the ball this year he played a bit as an outside midfielder and small forward last year, so we re hoping to see him win some more contested footy. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Charlie Spargo: top-age son of Paul (81 AFL games for North Melbourne from , nine AFL games for Brisbane in 1993). TEAM PROSPECTS: We probably met expectations last year. I think we had a team and I communicated this clearly to the players throughout the year that could and should have won finals, which is something the Bushrangers hadn t done for a little while. To be perfectly honest, I don t think we ll have the depth we had last year but we ll be more than competitive. I m really looking forward to seeing our bottom-age players as well we think we ve got some good depth in that age group. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We ve lost a couple of coaches from last year but we ve promoted a couple of guys from our U16 program. Daniel Preston is coming from our 16s to coach our back line. Ben Davey makes a return to coach our midfield after a bit of an interrupted year he also worked with the Vic Country U18s last year. Mark Brown remains as the forward line coach and we have Dale Carmody who was involved at the club in coming back to coach our tall forwards and rucks after working overseas for a number of years. 13

NORTHERN KNIGHTS (Comments from Talent Manager Rhy Gieschen) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 12th (4-14) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Lachlan Murphy / 2. Luke Bunker / 3. Mason Blakey 2016 DRAFTEES: Patrick Lipinski (pick no.28 to Western Bulldogs) / Matthew Signorello (no.62 to Adelaide) 2017 COACH: Justin Wenke (first season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Nick Coffield (18 games, ave. 13 disposals in 2016): Nick s an intercept-marking, rebounding backman with very good speed and agility. He has a really good, long, penetrating right foot. We re probably going to challenge him to be the best intercept, rebounding backman in the TAC Cup this year. He goes to school at the footy factory out at Whitefriars where he s the football captain he also has good leadership skills. Patrick Naish (nine games, ave. 17 disposals and four marks in 2016): Patrick possesses the ability to run and carry with the football and we think he s going to be a good inside-50, goal-assist type of player this year. He has a beautiful long, penetrating right foot kick. He s really improved his running both his sprint and endurance over the off-season and become a bit more powerful. He s in the AFL Academy. Ethan Penrith (17 games, ave. 13 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Ethan had a really good season last year predominantly as a rebounding, running small backman. He possesses an elite sidestep and burst from the contest, and really good run-and-carry ability. He s an exciting type of player and will definitely catch the eye throughout the course of the year. He shows good leadership and is a good character. Jack Petruccelle (two games, four goals in 2016): Jack s really exciting and has incredible athleticism. He was in the AIS Academy for basketball but has set his sights on football in He ll probably play as a half forward type of player who can get up the ground and then use his pace to find space and really take the game on. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Marcus Lentini (13 games, nine goals, ave. 24 disposals in 2016): Marcus really came on last year. During the middle part of the season he had three games of 30, 33 and 36 disposals as a midfielder. He s had a really good off-season working hard on his kicking and ball use, and has been in the gym getting fitter, stronger and faster. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Adam Tomaro (11 games, ave. 17 disposals and four marks for the Oakleigh Chargers in 2016): Adam missed his whole bottom-age year at Oakleigh with a shoulder reconstruction. He played games for the Chargers when he was available last year but had an outstanding school season with Marcellin where he captained a premiership. He s a good overhead mark, a really smooth mover and is a beautiful user of the football. We re going to work on developing him as an inside midfielder who can then spread really hard from the contest and use his skill and his smarts on the outside. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Patrick Naish: Top-age son of Chris (161 AFL games 143 for Richmond from , 18 for Port Adelaide from ). Josh Broderick: Top-age son of Paul (262 AFL games 93 for Fitzroy from , 169 for Richmond from ). TEAM PROSPECTS: We re disappointed in our win-loss record over the last three years (6-11 in 2014, 4-13 in 2015, 4-12 in 2016). While player development is our main focus, we want to bring the Knights back to being one of the stronger TAC Cup regions, which traditionally we have been. Going through a pretty poor year last year has probably really galvanised the playing group and they want to have some more on-field success. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: We feel really lucky to have someone of Justin Wenke s standing and experience in our head coach s role. He spent about seven years coaching Oakleigh s U16 program and then three years as head coach (from 2012-mid 2014, including the 2012 TAC Cup premiership), so he saw a lot of players go through and he really understands the different needs of individual players. We ve also changed every line coach. Phil Plunkett s coached four premierships in the Northern Football League and came through the Knights as a player he s our midfield coach. Marcus Hastings was Coburg s development coach in the VFL last year he s our back line coach and Peter Buszard played at Oakleigh under Justin and then coached with him at the Chargers and the Yarra Junior Football League he s our forward line coach. 15

OAKLEIGH CHARGERS (Comments from Talent Manager Craig Notman) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 4th (10-10) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Lachlan Walker / 2. Jack Higgins / 3. Xavier Jordan 2016 DRAFTEES: Jordan Ridley (pick no.22 to Essendon) / Sam McLarty (no.30 to Collingwood) / Ed Phillips (no.56 to St Kilda) / Josh Daicos (no.57 to Collingwood) / Dion Johnstone (no.64 to Melbourne) / Pat Kerr (no.65 to Carlton) / Nick Larkey (no.73 to North Melbourne) / Taylin Duman (rookie pick no.3 to Fremantle) 2017 COACH: Leigh Clarke (first season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Jack Higgins (nine games, 20 goals, ave. 29 disposals and seven marks in 2016): Jack s a member of the AFL Academy program. He played through the midfield and forward line last year and he ll probably play similar roles for us this year. The big thing for us is to see him step up his leadership. He certainly leads in terms of the way he goes about his training he s as good as we ve got here but what I m looking for is for him to drag some of the other boys up to a similar standard. Toby Wooller (11 games, 12 goals, ave. 15 disposals and eight marks in 2016): Toby played as a key forward last season and acquitted himself really well. He s one I see as a definite leader amongst our group. I think we ll play him as a forward but we might throw him back for a period of time to show his versatility. Riley Jones (15 games, ave. 10 disposals and three marks in 2016): Riley was a tall defender for us last year and played on some pretty handy types. He d pretty much never played down back before so I think he learned a lot about the game. This year we ll look to give him opportunities up forward. Noah Answerth (seven games, ave. 13 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Noah s a defender who s very hard at the ball, kicks the ball really well, has some terrific speed and is a real competitor. He s the brother of (2015 TAC Cup Grand Final best-on-ground medallist) Kade Answerth. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKET: Matthew Day (not on list in 2016): Matthew was involved in some of our development programs going back a couple of years but has been a really keen basketballer and played some highlevel basketball. He played some school footy at Marcellin last year that we were really impressed by and his work in our pre-season so far has been really pleasing. He s very good in traffic, has silky skills, covers the ground well and is just a really smooth mover. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Louis Cunningham (14 games, ave. 22 disposals and six marks in 2016): From all reports Louis was close to being rookie-listed last year. He played predominantly down back for us last year but we re keen to give him exposure in all parts of the ground this year, so we re looking for him to play more of a midfield role. We re keen for him to get some exposure at VFL level in the early part of the year as well. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Zac Hart: Bottom-age son of Ben (311 AFL games for Adelaide from ). Will Kelly: Bottom-age son of Craig (122 AFL games for Collingwood from ). Will Golds: Bottom-age brother of Tim (six AFL games for GWS from , no AFL games for Collingwood in 2016). Charlie Beasley: Bottom-age brother of Hugh (six AFL games for Brisbane from ). Anthony Larkey: Bottom-age brother of Nick (drafted to North Melbourne in 2016). TEAM PROSPECTS: I m pretty confident we ve got some draft-able quality amongst the group. I think we ve probably got a bit more leg speed than we ve had over the previous couple of years, so that s exciting and might give us a bit of a different look. I think we ve got some good depth in the bottom-age group too, so they ll get plenty of looks over the course of the year. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: I m really pleased with how our new head coach Leigh Clarke s fitted in. He s been involved in the program before and certainly knows the way we go about things. Having a new coach come in with some new ideas and a new voice has been really good to piggy-back on the great work that (two-time Chargers premiership coach and now Melbourne AFL Women s coach) Mick Stinear did previously. Outside of Leigh, we ve been able to keep the same coaching group together. 16

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS (Comments from Talent Manager Ryan O Connor) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: Premiers (15-5-1) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Corey Lyons / 2. Josh Trew / =3. Reuben Hayward and Darcy James 2016 DRAFTEES: Andrew McGrath (pick no.1 to Essendon) / Tim Taranto (no.2 to GWS) / Will Setterfield (no.5 to GWS) / Jack Scrimshaw (no.7 to Gold Coast) / Oliver Florent (no.11 to Sydney) / Cameron Polson (no.59 to Carlton) / Corey Lyons (no.71 to Brisbane) / Lachlan Filipovic (rookie pick no.8 to Melbourne) 2017 COACH: Jeremy Barnard (third season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECT: Hayden McLean (19 games, 27 goals, ave. 11 disposals, five marks and seven hitouts in 2016): Hayden had a big bottom-age year and played in our grand final side. He s a key forward/ruckman and can probably play a bit of centre half back too, so he s quite flexible and has a really good impact on the game. He s 196/197cm so he s a decent lump of a lad and he looks like he s getting fitter and stronger. He s mobile enough to get on-ball and almost be another midfielder as well as doing really well in the ruck. He s in the AFL Academy. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKETS: Andrew Brayshaw (seven games, ave. 11 disposals in 2016): Andy was part of our grand final side last year. He played small forward/small back utility-type roles in his bottom-age year as he s nice and tough and he can really focus and do a job. It s going to be interesting to see how he translates that into the midfield this year. Isaac Morrisby (14 games, 20 goals, ave. 10 disposals and four marks in 2016): Isaac was also part of our grand final side last year. We re hoping he can dominate as a key forward this year. He s got a fantastic set of hands and kicked five goals in a half in the U17 All Stars game last year. Will Walker (11 games, 15 goals, ave. nine disposals in 2016): Will s come from a soccer background. He was a little bit unlucky not to play in the U17 All Stars game last year he was included in the squad but broke his finger. He s fairly raw to footy but he s a great little athlete and I think he s going to be an excitement package this year. Kai Owens and Joel Amartey (both not on list in 2016): Up until the last year or so they ve been concentrating on basketball. Kai s mum is from Japan and Joel s dad is from Ghana. We hope they re going to be surprise packets and jump out of nowhere. Both are tall and very athletic. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Hamish Brayshaw (12 games, 18 goals, ave. 18 disposals, six marks and four tackles in 2016): Hamish is still getting over foot surgery and we re hoping that without a hiccup he can be ready for Round 1. He ended up playing the last month of last season with a broken foot we found that out post-grand-final. He s a pretty tough kid. We think his leadership s fantastic, being our captain last year in a premiership season. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Hamish and Andrew Brayshaw: over-age and top-age (respectively) brothers of Angus (31 AFL games for Melbourne) and sons of Mark (32 AFL games for North Melbourne from ). Sebastian Williams: top-age grandson of Don Williams (205 AFL games for Melbourne from and and member of Melbourne s Team of the Century). Lachlan Harris: top-age son of Leon (186 AFL games for Fitzroy from ). James Rendell: bottom-age son of Matt (164 AFL games for Fitzroy from , 13 AFL games for Brisbane in 1992). TEAM PROSPECTS: We d like to think this year s group can reach the heights of last year s. It ll be exciting to see whether they re going to be as resilient and capable of stepping up to challenges as the boys were last year. The boys were very talented last year but I think their best attribute was their overall work rate, and when they were challenged and you thought they were out of it, they found something else. We re talking to the boys a lot about that this year it doesn t matter where you find yourself, you ve just got to pick yourself up and get right back into it. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: There s been one minor change Danny Ryan s moved out to the Casey Demons in the VFL with (former Dragons head coach) Justin Plapp so Brad Berry s stepped up into a role as an assistant coach. 17

WESTERN JETS (Comments from Talent Manager Shane Sexton) FACT FILE: 2016 FINISH: 10th (5-13) 2016 BEST AND FAIREST: 1. Brodie Romensky / 2. Oscar Junker / 3. Daniel Foley 2016 DRAFTEES: Daniel Venables (pick no.15 to West Coast) / Oscar Junker (rookie pick no.28 to North Melbourne) 2017 COACH: Torin Baker (fifth season) TOP 2017 NAB AFL DRAFT PROSPECTS: Cameron Rayner (eight games, 17 goals, ave. 18 disposals, four marks and four tackles in 2016): Cameron had a really good year as a bottom-age player to the point where he played himself into the AFL Academy. He s strongly built, very hard at the football and a terrific competitor. He has a penetrating kick, is excellent over his head and is a versatile type of player who we ll be working really hard with to ensure he becomes a very effective inside midfielder. Lachlan Fogarty (five games, ave. 24 disposals and eight tackles in 2016): Lachie s very highly skilled, an excellent decision-maker, and really competitive. He needs to build a bigger tank but certainly has a capacity to get to where the ball is around the ground. He was our best player in his 16-year-old season in 2015 when he represented Vic Metro. He s also a member of the AFL Academy. Tristan Xerri (11 games, 13 goals, ave. seven disposals, two marks and 11 hitouts in 2016): Tristan s a late developer we picked him up halfway through He s over 200cm tall, a good athlete, very mobile, excellent below his knees and very capable over his head. He can not only get it in the air but also on the ground so he s going to be a bit of an all-rounder. POTENTIAL SURPRISE PACKETS: Nick Stuhldreier (15 games, ave. 17 disposals and four marks in 2016): Nick had a fantastic season last year as a bottom-age player and received our Best First-Year Player Award. He has a fantastic attitude, a great desire to succeed, a fantastic work ethic and is someone who has fantastic leadership qualities. Luke Hitch (14 games, ave. 12 disposals and four tackles in 2016): Luke is a fantastic competitor, really hard at the footy, never gives up and is capable of being a small defender. We ll also try to run him through the midfield to give him that opportunity. Josh Mould (no games in 2016): We re looking forward to seeing Josh play this year. He suffered a stress fracture of the foot which was really nasty and took a while to diagnose, and he missed all of last year and a fair part of 2015 trying to get over it. Riley Ham (nine games, ave. six disposals and 11 hitouts in 2016): Riley s a big boy who got an opportunity in the middle of last year. He had a couple of really good games playing at centre half forward. OVER-AGE PLAYER TO WATCH: Judah Dundon (eight games, six goals, ave. 19 disposals in 2016): He was absolutely flying as a 17-year-old in 2015 but had to have a plate inserted into his forearm and that was the end of his season. At the start of last year he was full of confidence but got a fracture in his tibia. He played eight or nine games in the middle of the season and started to get a bit of form back, but then exactly the same injury occurred in his other leg so that was the end of his season. If he can find some really good form, we think he ll be a good player. FAMOUS SURNAMES: Nathan Ellis: Bottom-age brother of Corey (17 AFL games for Richmond). Oskar Manton: Bottom-age son of Glenn (178 AFL games 21 for Essendon from , 157 for Carlton from ). Jacob Smith: Top-age son of Rohan (300 AFL games for the Western Bulldogs from ). TEAM PROSPECTS: We ve got a solid enough contingent of good players who ll be going to private schools. As you saw last year, it was on for young and old at the start of the season we nearly beat eventual premier Sandringham when we had a full side available and we beat preliminary finalist Oakleigh in the first round, but then we also had a shocking run with injuries. The start and end of the season when we have all our players available will be crucial. COACHING PANEL CHANGES: The major change is Matthew Cape who s come on as an assistant coach. He s a local and played really good football for Williamstown in the VFL over a number of years. 18

TAC Cup Girls AFL Victoria introduces TAC Cup Girls AFL Victoria has this year launched a new TAC Cup Girls competition. In an exciting partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), the 12-team league mirrors the TAC Cup for boys, responsible for developing many of the biggest names in the AFL. AFL Victoria and the TAC have been working over a number of years at establishing girls academies within the TAC Cup boys structure, to give young female footballers the same opportunities as their male counterparts via Towards Zero Girls Academies. The TAC has supported the elite boys pathway since its inception in 1992 and will now provide the same leadership and mentoring opportunities to junior female footballers with their sights set on a career in the AFL. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said the football pathway in Victoria for males and females is now complete. Within footy circles, the TAC Cup has become synonymous with producing some of the game s top talent, Reaper said. With the launch of TAC Cup Girls, we re really excited to see Victoria s female talent develop and one day play on the main stage in the NAB AFLW or Swisse VFL Women s competitions. It s about creating a new generation of leaders and role models for young Victorian females, and the support of TAC will help us achieve that. We can already see the first round of young women to come out of the Towards Zero Girls Academies into the AFLW having a profound effect on our community, and we look forward to seeing that continue to grow with TAC Cup Girls. AFLW talent like Katherine Smith (Sandringham Dragons / Melbourne), Lily Mithen (Geelong Falcons-Western Jets / Melbourne), Isabella Ayre (Bendigo Pioneers / Carlton), Deanna Berry (Calder Cannons / Melbourne) and Georgia Walker (Dandenong Stingrays / Collingwood) were all part of the Towards Zero Girls Academy program in 2016, with previous Academy graduates including Carlton vice-captain Madeline Keryk, Western Bulldogs Ellie Blackburn and GWS Giants Louise Stephenson. The new under-18 girls competition replaces the academy program but continues to develop great footballers while empowering players to serve as positive role models, encouraging good driving behaviour among their peers and helping Victoria achieve its Towards Zero vision for a safer future on our roads. The competition started on March 4 and continued last weekend with wins to the Geelong Falcons, Greater Western Victoria Rebels, Dandenong Stingrays, Calder Cannons, Eastern Ranges and Murray Bushrangers (full results on page 49). In a similar move to the AFL Victoria s VFL competitions (Peter Jackson VFL and Swisse VFL Women s), the TAC Cup social media and online accounts will operate through the one channel at #TACCupGirls (Twitter) and TACCupfooty (Facebook). TAC CUP GIRLS BASICS - The new under-18 girls competition features a team from each of the current 12 TAC Cup boys regions: Bendigo Pioneers, Calder Cannons, Dandenong Southern Stingrays, Eastern Ranges, Geelong Falcons, Gippsland Power, Greater Western Victoria Rebels, Murray Bushrangers, Northern Knights, Oakleigh Chargers, Sandringham Dragons and Western Jets; - Teams will play a five-round season, which will be expanded in future years; - Games will be 4 x 15-minute quarters; - The premier will be the team on top of the ladder at the end of five rounds, with a best-and-fairest and leading goalkicker to also be announced at the end of the season; and - The final round will be played on Good Friday (April 14), with all games at RAMS Arena (Highgate Recreation Reserve) in Craigieburn. 20
