2 Cumbrian run - Sunday 5 Oct We are entering a staff and student team from Trinity into the Cumbrian Fun Run on Sunday 5th Oct. If you are interested in joining the team, please see Miss Atkinson or Mr Annette for a letter with more information. The cost is 4 per runner. Staff / student running club Running club is Monday after school pm meet at the arena. All welcome. Year 7 Freeze Year 7 will have their first freeze on Wednesday 24 September during periods 1 and 2. This will start with an assembly in MS Hall to set up the activity. You will learn more about KEQS Knowledge, Experience, Qualities and Skills some of the ingredients that make a good learner. Ms Hawkin Competition Time We are launching a competition this week to design a poster that shares the vision of Trinity School. We want budding designers to create a poster that sums up the three words Standards, Responsibility, Opportunity. For all. Entries will need to be handed in by half term. The winner will have the pleasure of seeing their design adopted by the school and will also win a 20 voucher. Ms Hawkin Hair Braids Colourful hair braids do not fit with our uniform policy, effectively the look created is the same as hair dye. Mr Lythgoe Tongue Piercings Girls are allowed to wear one stud earring in each ear. No other jewellery. Mr Lythgoe Jumpers We expect students to be in their school jumpers, unless staff give you permission to remove them. Mr Lythgoe Use of Coloured Pens Thank you for helping us to help you to make improvements in your learning by using the coloured pens. We have noticed that lots of you are buying the multi-coloured pens and that is a big help. Some of you have said that you find the use of the colours a little confusing, so we will put posters in rooms over the next few weeks to remind you. Thanks also for the high standard of presentation in books keep up the good work! Ms Hawkin

3 Missing Clarinets If anyone has seen any Clarinets around the school please can they let Mrs Richardson know or return them to the Music Department. Maisie Hailwood s Clarinet has gone missing and her parents are keen to get it back, it is marked with her name on the side. Thanks. Mrs Richardson Trinity Y9 v Caldew Y10 A fantastic first match for the Y9 hockey girls. The action was end to end, Trinity were unlucky not to score with some good shots on goal saved by the excellent Caldew goal keeper. Jess Machin was most improved player in the match and Captain Jade Airey controlled the midfield well. Alex Collins and Darienne Boyd never stopped running, their work rate was first class. At the back Sophie Mason, Megan Hanson, Holly Falder and Emilie Livingstone were calm and controlled and Caleigh Allison in goal kept her concentration for the duration of the match keeping a clean sheet. Grace Foster, Molly Park and Roslyn Mackie made some important tackles to stop the Caldew attack. Evie Atkinson made her debut for the team and made a positive difference as did Casey Marsh and Emma Shepherd who created many chances up front. A 0-0 score line was a great result against an older team. Well done to all the girls. Practice for Y8-10 is on Tuesday pm - meet at the arena. Y7 Hockey is Friday pm - meet at the arena.

4 TO ALL YEAR 10 STUDENTS Bronze DofE (Duke of Edinburgh s Award) Anyone interested in joining the Award this year, please come to a brief meeting on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER PM in MARGARET SEWELL HALL You need to attend the meeting in person, no other student can take a letter on your behalf. Any problem with that, please contact Mr Sadler or Mrs Ledingham. Cake Sale There will be a cake sale on behalf Macmillan Cancer Trust on Friday 26 September in Jubilee Hall. Thank you. 7 The Royal British Legion Cumberland & Westmorland County 26 Blencarn Park, Rockcliffe, Carlisle, CA6 4AH Tel: Mob: E: Or: To the Chairman/ Chairlady of the Student Representative Group Trinity School Carlisle 29/08/14 Each year, on Remembrance Sunday, your local branch of The Royal British Legion meets at the Cenotaph at Rickerby Park, Carlisle for a short Act of Commemoration for those from the counties of Westmorland and Cumberland and further afield who served and died in the service of their country. We think too of the many families dreadfully affected by war, and of those of other nations whose lives were changed forever. You, the youth and future of our country, are invited to join us, individually or as a College Representative Group, in our simple short ceremony. One hundred years ago, our great grandparents, your great-great grandparents perhaps, were facing a frightening prospect. The awful conflict they described as The Great War was claiming its first victims. No one knew how or when it would end. The people of Europe could only look to the future with fear and trepidation. They were living in bleak and uncertain times; times that would eventually affect every continent of our world. Before peace would return formally on 11th November 1918 millions of men, women, and children of many nations and countries would become victims of the violence of war, of starvation, and of illness. And the suffering and dying would continue long after hostilities ended as the Spanish Flu pandemic and the after-effects of battlefield injuries took their toll. Today, unlike our predecessors of , we have antibiotics, sophisticated medical techniques and medicines, and more than adequate nutrition. We give thanks that a century later the future for most of us looks much better. The Ceremony at the Cenotaph begins at 2.30 PM on the afternoon of Sunday 9th November. Wreaths and other small tokens of Remembrance may be placed on the Memorial. You do not need to reply formally to this invitation.
