3 PRESIDENTS REPORT A great celebration last Saturday for the Dean and Carruthers Night and I thank all those who attended and helped organised the event - particularly Libby and Lorraine. Both these ladies are continually contributing to the success of our club and I thank them both enormously. School holidays make it difficult to plan football and family events and I know several teams are struggling to cover players who are away. This is an annual problem and despite requests to the EFL we are unable to change the fixture to include a bye. All clubs are in the same boat so all we can do is our best. Thanks to our coaches who are working through this problem. Sunday 16 July is quite simply a festival of football at our home ground with 8 home matches to played. "Super Sunday" will see most of our teams play at home with many double-up matches! Please take the time to stay a little longer and watch the games before/ after your own game. The day will conclude with both the U/17 boys and U/18 girls playing at A great day is planned!!! I will be away overseas for the next week and Paul Weston will be stepping in to my role. Westy will solve everything!!!!! Have a great week everyone - GO RAMS!! Andy Worner President EBJFC

7 UNDER 8 MATCH REPORT ROUND 11 EAST BURWOOD WANTIRNA SOUTH GREEN G BB SC G BB SC 1st st nd nd rd rd th th EBFC GOAL SCORERS EBFC BEST PLAYERS ON THE DAY COACHES COMMENTS WHOLE TEAM The under 8 s had a game against a really talented Wantirna South Green team this week. With a strong wind blowing the boys learnt the importance of putting a score on the board when kicking with a strong breeze. Eight of the nine goals kicked in the game were kicked to the end favoured by the wind. Interestingly enough the last Rams goal was a beautifully crafted (lots of short passes) team goal scored against the wind. Mark had the boys doing a mini training session before the game. One of the drills he conducted involved the boys picking up the footy off the ground and running hard for five - ten steps before handballing to a teammate. The boys used this skill to great effect a number of times during the game. As a result, they found themselves in space and had more time to dispose of the football. There were some courageous individual efforts with Rams players throwing themselves at the football for the entire game. It was very pleasing to see the boys finish the game just as strongly as they had started it. The under eights have improved their fitness levels as well as their skills this season. Enjoy the school holidays boys!

It makes coaching these kids so easy when they try just as hard for the other team as they do for ours. The game was a real physical encounter with Scotty the medical magician worked off his feet attending to many hard knocks as the Rams were going in for the footy flat out. Great work. Jake Soddu played his best game for the year which was highlighted when he cantered the ball to a teammate with skilful kicking. He run hard all game up and down the wing. Big Max was dominant in the ruck and dashed down the ground with the ball kicking it long into attack. He also kicked 3 goals which was a huge effort considering he played on the other team for a quarter. Malik was creating opportunities in the forward line and kicked another beauty of a goal. He s improving every week. Jake Stone played a brilliant second half running hard and creating a target in the forward line. He snuck in a few bounces too after the coach banned him due to the ball going back through his legs in the previous few weeks. A special mention to Nath McHugh who continues to try and switch the play instead of kicking to a pack. It was a really great team effort on Sunday. This includes all the parents who wound back the clock at the club function and still turned up in the morning to cheer on the kids. Parents please continue to make the effort to get to training to help out. Only a few games remaining so let s finish the year off well.

Pressure, tackling, ball use, attacking the ball, getting to the ball 1st all lead to a great win!!! Round 11 coming up against the top team was always going to be a tough game and the boys gave it their all!! The breeze (and ground slope) played a big part in the scoring and we allowed them to capitalize in the 1st quarter despite a reasonably even contest. The 2nd quarter was great!! The boys went in hard and were rewarded with 3 goal to 1 - with some great work in the centre to get 1st use of the ball and multiple forward entries!! A big 3rd quarter from Donvale saw the game slip away! Our boys showed great composure and kept up a great attitude for the 2nd half! The game was closer than the end score. Well done boys!!

We battled extremely well and held our own in both the 2nd quarter where we held Vermont scoreless and the 4th quarter we kicked a nice goal and kept Vermont from scoring until very late in the quarter. Unfortunately Vermont was able to kick some easy goals in the 1st and 3rd quarters and this ultimately proved the difference in the game. They were cleaner in their ball handling and marking skills which allowed them to take advantage when scoring opportunities arose. That said our kids gave a great account of themselves and never gave up as evidenced by the very competitive effort in the last quarter. We have come a long way as a team and the improvement from early in the season is very evident. It was very pleasing to see some of our players take on instruction from the coaches in areas where they struggled early in the game and to work hard to improve the performance as the game went on and be good contributors by the end. This shows great resilience; sometimes things don t go your way but of you keep persisting and trying hard it can turn around for you. There is no doubt that if we would get very close to this Vermont team with our strongest team. Overall it was a good performance and the final score was not really reflective of the game.

Marks 1 EBFC BEST PLAYERS ON THE DAY Cal Joseph Jaymie Kempson Josh Salomon Daniel Pugh Harrison Wunhym James Connell Patrick Marks COACHES COMMENTS We made a very slow start to the game into a stiff wind to fall behind by 4 goals at quarter time and a massive challenge ahead of us. To make matters worse we were down to only 18 players and it was going to be a tough job to overcome the deficit without a bench and any fresh legs. It was also the first time for the season the team had found itself down by such a margin at quarter time and it was going to be a hard scoring on a windy day at Chirnside Park. The team regrouped after quarter time after we switched players around and it was a particularly gutsy effort for them to win the 3rd quarter when they battled into the wind again. To the boys credit they outscored their opponent after the first quarter by 5 goals to 3 in a fairly low scoring match but the initial lead was too much to make up. Last week we were overrun in the final quarter and this week we suffered after a slow start. The boys will be very keen to regain their confidence to play out 4 quarters of football and perform to their potential as the team will need to support each other more effectively both physically and by voice. I also hope we will regain an interchange bench which will give them a boost as they battle hard even when we are undermanned.

The endeavour and intent from the girls was awesome!! I am so pleased with the ways the girls have listened and put into practise what we are doing at training. There were some wonderful individual efforts and I would particularly like to highlight Aimee Firth. Aimee is our youngest player by far, received a nasty knock and yet showed the courage to come back on the field and go in again time after time. This is not easy against bigger and older girls. I applaud Aimee and I know all the girls were impressed with her persistence and endeavour. This week we play The Basin away- game starts at Thanks the Grant Firth for taking over whilst I am away!
