2 Directions to Make Matching Games *Note: There are exactly the same number of names for numbers (pictures) in the first set as the number of actual numerals in the second set. This will allow you to make up your own games and use the materials in different ways. Just like a child is only one actual person, he or she is called by several different names. See pages 23 and 24 to explain this to the children. Names for numbers is actually studied in elementary school, such as 2+2 is a name for 4, or 1+5 is a name for six. 1. Game One, easy (picture cards only): Make two copies of each picture page (pages 3 through 12) in the amount you need for your children or students. 2. Keep one copy as the game mat, and one copy to cut apart to be in the upside down draw pile. 3. In this game, children simply collect names for numbers, like all the names for one or seven. 4. Children just match the same card to the place on the mat. 2. SET TWO, more difficult (both sets of cards): Make enough copies of the game boards with numerals for your students. (pages 13-22) Make the same amount of copies of each page with pictures and cut the pages apart to make a deck of cards. Give each student a numerals only mat. Make a draw pile of the cards. When the student has a turn and draws a card, he or she may keep it if it names a numeral on his or her game board, and place it on top of the number.
