1 The ossmere Gazette May 2012 GENERAL MANAGER S REPORT The old saying is April Showers bring May Flowers I have to wonder what April s freezing cold weather will bring us. We were very fortunate this year as the golf course opened on March 30 th, this marks the earliest start that we have ever had at Rossmere. Unfortunately, the weather has been so miserable at times that the phrase Game Time Decision has never been more appropriate. Our members were able to play a total of 2280 rounds in April, not too bad considering the lost days. The 2012 membership numbers are solid, although it is very hard to compare this year to last due to our early start. I have attached our membership numbers as of May 1 st below. We did introduce the new spring membership in 2011, this membership ends at the end of May. Our hope is that we are able to retain these members for the rest of the season. Our new site does not run very well with Internet Explorer 8. If this is the search engine that you are currently using it might be wise to download Google Chrome or Moxilla. I have found that these search engines are more compatible with our website. The website has two different sections: Public and Members. The public section is what you see when you go to The public section is where you can click on Book a Tee Time and make your online bookings. When you log in at the top right corner of the site; this brings you to our members section. The member s side has some of the same features as the public side and also member specific content that we do not share with the public. These include: Roster, Men s Night, Mundie Putter and Club Events. All of the members were assigned a generic password a few year s ago, this was the first three letters of your first name and your last, the password was My password would be scoparker If you have any problems logging into the member s side please contact me in the office. Rossmere recently hosted its annual Gentlemen s Dinner on April 14 th. I must thank the Men s Curling Committee for their hard work and dedication in making this evening such a huge success. Through all of their hard work we were able to raise $7,500 for Rossmere Country Club. I would like to recognize these committee members as our Volunteers of the Month for April. 4 Please meet a few of Rossmere s new Staff Members Hello, my name is Nikki. I am currently working as a registered Dental Assistant at a dental office on Corydon Avenue. In the fall I am attending The University of Manitoba as a full time student and this upcoming September I will be entering the U of M School of Dental Hygiene where I will work towards obtaining my degree. In the meantime, I have taken on a new endeavor as a part-time server at Rossmere. I am excited to meet new people, make new friends and maybe learn a thing or two about golfing! My name is Shannon Stevenson which means small, wise and a fighting spirit. I have lived in St. Andrews my whole life which I consider myself as a country girl. I am 21 years old and just finished my 4th year at the University of Manitoba. My goal in life since I was 14 years old is to be a criminal lawyer. My whole life I have been involved in many activities from Ukrainian dancing, gymnastics, dance, cross country and track. I have been playing indoor and outdoor soccer for many years and I am proud to call myself a Red Hot Pink Flamingo. Hi, My name is Lane SokoIowski and I grew up and still live in East Kildonan. I'm done my first year at the University of Winnipeg and will be attending the University of Manitoba next year. I play hockey for the Western Predators in the Women's Junior League. When I'm not studying I enjoy walking my dogs, watching movies and baking. Hi, my name is Meghan and I m a new dining room/lounge and banquet server for Rossmere Golf Club. I was born and raised in friendly Winnipeg, Manitoba. I currently just finished my first year of university at the University of Manitoba, and will be returning in the fall in hopes to become an Early Years Teacher. Some of my hobbies include reading, shopping, rollerblading, travelling, playing field hockey and going to my cabin during the summer. My name is Bree Gillis. I'm from a farm near a small town called Cypress River. I just finished my third year of university at the University of Manitoba, and I hope to become an occupational therapist when I'm all finished. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, and spending time at the lake with my family. I look forward to spending the summer at Rossmere! Page 4

Rossmere Men s League The 2012 regular season begins on Thursday, May 24th, please make sure you book your tee times by calling the pro shop beginning on Thursday, May 3rd.

On Men s Night s, the kiosk will be running drink and food specials after the game for all of the players. Each week there will be a closest to the pin competition on one of the Par 3 s.

If the competitor who has the closest shot does not sink the putt this money get s carried over until the next Men s Night when the Closest to the Pin is worth $150.

5 Rossmere Men s League The 2012 regular season begins on Thursday, May 24th, please make sure you book your tee times by calling the pro shop beginning on Thursday, May 3rd. The Men s Night Committee s hope is that these matches will be scheduled on the Men s Night dates as we are going to be running special events. On Men s Night s, the kiosk will be running drink and food specials after the game for all of the players. Each week there will be a closest to the pin competition on one of the Par 3 s. The winner receives $75 if they have the closest shot to the pin and they sink the putt. If the competitor who has the closest shot does not sink the putt this money get s carried over until the next Men s Night when the Closest to the Pin is worth $150. The team with the most points each week wins $80. The second highest point total receives $40 and the third place team receives $30. All of our weekly prizes will be awarded at the wind up banquet in September. Format The Men s League will use the Match Play format of Team Net Best Ball with points awarded per hole based on a win, tie, loss (2-1-0) on all eighteen holes of the match. Each match has a total of 36 points available and the winning team is determined by the points accumulated during the match. Please pick up the official rule sheet prior to your first match on May 24th. Tee Times All competing matches are required to book tee times (up to three weeks in advance) our hope is that these matches will be played on Men s League nights. Competitors may begin booking on May 3rd for the May 24th match. The 36 points will be split equally (18-18) between teams that do not complete their match before the next schedule Men s League date. Draw Please check out the draw by going to the members section of the website under events/mens league/draw.
