2 A Note from the General Manager.. Dear Members and Friends, Although the month of October is typically a slow month, the club has remained busy. Tuesday and Wednesday evening dining has been popular with our families, and Bingo on Tuesday Night has been well received. Thanks to Colette Tank, our Food and Beverage Manager, we continue to improve in all areas of service. We are excited to announce that Brian Hodges will be returning to help Colette and our team continue our improvement. Colette and Brian will work in tandem as we offer new and exciting social programming options. November and December are two of our busiest months with holiday parties, wedding receptions and class reunions. Please consider hosting your family or office holiday party at the Club. Our staff will be glad to host your event. As in years past, we will decorate the Club for Christmas the week following Thanksgiving. Anyone willing to share their expertise is encouraged to help! Please take advantage of the Thanksgiving Buffet offered on Thursday, November 23. This is a great time to have your family and friends together at the club. Please make reservations. As we continue to make improvements around the club, I am open to your ideas and suggestions. It is my desire to make Dublin Country Club one of the most outstanding clubs in this area. Sincerely, Jeffery Allbright General Manager A Note from the President.. On behalf of the Board of Directors, let me say how excited we are about the Dublin Country Club! We re envisioning a great future as THE place everyone wants to be with their friends and family. With membership currently at 350, that should get us all excited. Many times it just takes asking someone about joining to get a new member. The Platinum Club, which was established for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support improvements to be made that may have otherwise been deferred, now totals $ That s pretty amazing. We are humbled by your generosity, and appreciate additional participation in the campaign. We are truly grateful to all of our members for their support of our Club. This year we hope to enhance your experience, and each board member is committed to this goal. Our committees are being established to help make this possible. We want to get your feedback, so please feel free to call me or any board member with any suggestions. This year s committee chairs are: Rob Miller, Finance Brian Bowles, Membership Don Daily, Club House Mickey Schuber, House Operations Lisa McMichael, Social Michael Maffett, Golf/Outdoor Mike Cummings, Tournaments Jack Tribble, Long-Term Planning Plans are in the works to kick off January with a celebration of the club and the well! The board and staff will give Club updates and survey your thoughts. More details will be in next month s newsletter. I would like to thank Jeff and all of his staff for what they do each and every day to make our club so special. We hope you will make the Club your main destination for the upcoming holiday months. Respectfully, Susan Brandon DCC Members, As the Holiday season quickly approaches, the entire staff at Dublin Country Club would like to wish health and happiness to you and your family. We are truly fortunate to live in a great community and share the fellowship of our entire membership. As in years past, we will again offer an opportunity for our membership to donate to the employee Christmas fund. We will automatically bill your November statement for $ If you do not wish to participate, please call the business office prior to November 26, % of the donations will be distributed among our associates, in all club departments. Thank you for supporting your Country Club! READ THE ENTIRE NEWSLETTER! Hidden in this month s club newsletter is a member s club number. Hidden number for October was 688 Janice Roberts. If you find it and it is yours, call Extension 203 before the end of the month and win a Gift Certificate for two for!
3 Platinum Club A Progressive Partnership for Today and Tomorrow The Platinum Club has been created to allow individuals, organizations, and businesses to support unbudgeted and unfunded capital improvement projects necessary at the Dublin Country Club. The funds will allow improvements to be completed that might otherwise be deferred or not undertaken. The recently completed exterior painting and reroofing are examples of capital improvements being funded by the Platinum Club. These projects will encourage growth in both Club usage and membership. With a minimum $1000 individual, $2500 Civic Club, or $5000 Corporate membership, YOU can play an important role in the future of the Dublin Country Club and our community. Please consider joining the Platinum Club. 4 Hello from the course.. We have had a few cold mornings and the grass is slowing down. We have made the final grass cut on the fairways and we raised the height to prepare for winter play. Any additional use of the mowers will be focused on keeping the course clean while the leaves fall and to removing divots from the fairways. We have raised the height of the greens and lightly top dressed to fix some surface issues. Those areas that may be thin and any unrepaired ball mark will be really noticeable during the winter. These will also be the last areas to bounce back next spring. We will begin working on the crape myrtle trimming, some dead tree removal and detailing out the area behind 18 green where the new well installation has been installed. We hope to provide a minimal landscaping around 18 green to provide a visual buffer from the new building location. In closing, the golf course maintenance staff would like to thank Randy Clark for his help. In six years we have survived two tornados and one hurricane while making considerable improvements to the course. We have had access to equipment for projects that were never realized on a day in day out basis which have truly impacted the property for every member. We look forward to continuing the improvements and projects as we being in new era working with Mr. Maffett. Please help us with the ball marks and raking bunkers. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing everyone out on the course. Take care, Hampton Kicklighter Jr. CGCS From the Pro Shop.. As a reminder, please be aware the Pro Shop business hours will change. Effective November the new operational hours will be 9AM till 6PM Monday thru Sunday. Keep us in mind for Birthday, Special Occasions and Christmas Gifts. We have a wide variety of Footjoy golf shirts with Dublin Country Club Logo in different sizes and colors. In addition, we have various Titleist totes, backpacks, briefcase and duffle bags. Golf Balls always make a great gift. Randy Duggins Remembering When.. When Midgets Raced It was in the long hot summer of 1941 when midgets raced along the sandy soil ridges surrounding Session s Lake, just north of Dublin. These midget car races, sponsored by the Dublin Lions Club, were held in August of 1941 before large crowds. Sessions Lake, first opened by Dublin Mayor Dee Sessions, was operated by Linton Malone, a successful entrepreneur, and his family. The lake lies along the southern end of today s Dublin Country Club. Session s Lake featured top notch swimming facilities, including diving boards, floats and canoes. A dance hall and skating rink were favorite spots for those young at heart and forever in love. The annual 4 th of July celebration at the lake drew large crowds that loved fast cars and water sports of any kind, as well as a beauty contest won by Bobbie Cullens. Mr. Malone staged a car race across an open field, with Grady Sumner of Wrightsville winning with his 1927-model car. In water sports, Jack Flanders of Dublin won the diving contest and Fred Middlebrooks won the under-17 swimming race. Malone later staged motorcycle trial races among 42 riders on Sunday, July 7, Buoyed by the enthusiasm following the trials before a crowd of 1500 people, he began to formulate plans for a permanent track on his amusement area. Malone, who was also President of the Dublin Lions Club, convinced his fellow members to sponsor races as a moneymaking opportunity for the club s charitable projects. He was right. Thousands of people came and plunked down their silver coins for admission for days of fun in the sun. As a preview to the midget car races, the Lions Club sponsored motorcycle races between the best Harley and Indian bike racers in Middle Georgia. More than 100 cyclists entered the races, which were held on July 26 along a one-mile oval track. As the crowds began to swell with each passing event, Malone built a grandstand and other improvements to make the race more exciting for the swelling throng of fans. Then came the Great War and the world changed forever. After the war, the race course disappeared and the grounds were transformed into the Dublin Country Club. Marlene Hazlett
