1 2018 John Wavrick President Susan Brandon and the Board of Directors are very pleased to announce Mr. John Wavrick will be joining Dublin Country Club as General Manager/Head Golf Professional. We are excited about John s wealth of experience as both General Manager and Golf Professional. With his background and personality, John will contribute significantly to our Mission of Enhancing the Member Experience. John is coming from Charlotte NC and will officially report the first week of September. It s going to be an exciting new era at Dublin Country Club! Tami Wavrick A note from the General Manager/Head Golf Professional.. Dear Dublin Country Club members, I just want to let each of you know how excited Tami and I are to be making our new home in Dublin! We will be married for 25 years in October and have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for over 20 years. I am a Life Member of the PGA, and golf club operations is my passion. During my career I have been fortunate to be associated with many successful leaders in the club industry. It will be my goal to share these great experiences with each of you to enhance the already great traditions of DCC. From the very first time we came and visited the club, your Board and Search Committee made us feel so very comfortable. They made it feel like home. The tours of the facility and the city of Dublin made the decision to relocate much easier. It truly is a great community. Tami, our GSP puppy Louie, and I will be making our transition down to Dublin over the next month. I plan to be on property beginning September 4 and look forward to meeting all of you. 6 Brian s Cakery Class Brian Hodges held a cake decorating class on Saturday August 25, 2018 from 2pm to 5pm. He provided all attendees with a small layer cake. Their focus was mostly on working with fondant and gum paste. Brian demonstrated how to properly color fondant, roll it, and execute a smooth fondant overlay, as well as several fondant decorating techniques. He also made some gum paste flowers. The cost of the course was $50++, and wine and light finger foods were available for all. It was a great afternoon of instruction and fun! Thanks to Brian for sharing one of his many talents!
7 Hello from the course.. We will be working this month to prepare the course for the fall and winter. We have started making applications to control the Poa Annua (winter weed) that looks so unsightly after the frost has begun. We will be adding several products with these applications to continue working on the crabgrass we have fought all summer long in the rough and fairways. We will also be applying the last of the chemical Rubigan to keep the Poa Annua out of the greens. This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer so moving forward we will be working with the UGA turf department as well as Clemson to find a feasible and effective solution. The greens overall this summer did respond much better to the drill and Fill procedure. We are hoping that this trend will help us avoid the need to rebuild the greens. Typically it takes four years for the procedure to really make an impact, however, based on the root growth we have observed with summer, we appear to be ahead of what one would normally expect. We are still seeing some problems in the areas where the grass has always been difficult to maintain since the new grass was planted in We will be making the small holes in the greens right after Labor Day. We will work on a few greens each day over a three or four day stretch. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause on a daily basis but it is necessary to keep the greens healthy over the winter months. We surely do not want to have the same issues this coming spring which caused so much frustration this summer. The MGA has discussed several course improvements which could take place over the winter. I look forward to reporting what they decide to do. We have really made some good course progress this year. An example of what we can do is the new tee box on number two which has been noticed during the events we have hosted. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the course. Thank you for your help and support. Take Care, Hampton Kicklighter Jr. CGCS From the Pro Shop.. What an exhilarating month August was! We were literally covered up with tournament activity, especially the middle weeks when we had the Club Championship followed by the Pitts/Cottrell Irish 4-ball, immediately followed by the DCC Seniors. Boy, were we busy!! It was wonderful hearing all the compliments on the course conditions, but, the truth is, it s all about the players! They make the tournaments fun and challenging, and it was a true pleasure working alongside and supporting them during each of these long weekends! That being said, there always have to be winners, and the winners of two of the biggest and best tournaments we have had all year are: DCC Club Championship Billy Daidone, Men s Club Champion; John Pournelle, Senior Champion; Jerry Calhoun, Super Senior Champion; Mike Cummings, Net Champion. Pitts/Cottrell Irish 4-Ball There were eight flights, with Clay Lanigan and Will Parker winners of Championship Flight A and overall winners. Several DCC members either placed in or won their flights, including Billy Daidone/Bill Middlebrooks, 2 nd place in Championship A; Chuck Bass/Dan McManus, 3 rd place in Championship B; Jeff Bruton/Brandon Bruton, 2 nd place in First Flight A; Kenny Anderberg/Richie Hogan, 3 rd place in First Flight A; Nick Chamness/Wayne Chamness, 2 nd place in First Flight B; Stacy Brantley/Jamie Craft, 2 nd place in Second Flight A; Ronnie Carter/Mark Dewease, 3 rd place in Second Flight B; William Barham/Chuck Ross, 1 st place in Second Flight B; John Mark Butler/ Larry Schenck, 2 nd place in Second Flight B; Jared Holley/Chad Wyatt, 2 nd place in Third Flight A; Jerry Pitts/Reese Stanley, 2 nd place in Third Flight B; and John Chamness/Wade Sumner, 3 rd place in Third Flight B. Low Round/Not in the Money winners from DCC included Jim Brantley/Ben Knight in Championship B, and Michael Maffett/Lee Newsome in First Flight A. The DCC Seniors group continues to grow, so if you plan to join the group, be sure to sign up ahead of time for the next tournament September 17 th and September 18 th! Speaking of signing up, our Thursday evening Twilight outings have diminished in numbers over the summer, mainly due to multiple cancellations due to late afternoon rain, combined with horrific humidity and extremely high temperatures. There are still several weeks to take advantage of this fun activity before nighttime starts coming earlier, so be sure to call Danny Martuscello or the Pro Shop, or stop by and sign up to play! Let s make it a promise to bring some fresh gusto to Twilight before daylight runs out! Last, but not least, we stocked some new Titleist caps in different colors, including some collegiate caps. Now is the time to get your favorite school s emblem on the side of your favorite Titleist cap! As usual, if we don t have it, we ll get it for you! Now to close a favorite quote from a local Georgia boy: Everybody can see that my swing is homegrown. That means everybody has a chance to do it. -Bubba Watson Marlene Monday Sept. 17th 9:30AM Tuesday Sept. 18th 9:30AM Monday Oct. 15th 10:00AM Tuesday Oct. 16th 10:00AM Monday Nov. 19th 10:00AM Tuesday Nov. 20th 10:00AM Monday Dec. 10th 10:00AM Tuesday Dec. 11th 10:00AM
