1 Rally 20th August th September 2006 Outback Jack s Voucher McIvor Road Bendigo Vic This month s award is being given to Toni Weir. Toni is a great club member; this shows by the amount of teams that she has participated in. Toni was a very valuable member of the Games Team that went on to compete at State, she has also been a valuable member of Bealiba s Polocrosse Teams and when asked if she would like to be part of a Flat Team was happy to do so. Whether Toni is riding Nippa or Cactus she always gives her very best and puts herself out to make it to all trainings. On occasions she had to ride 10 kilometers to get to the club, as it was her only way of getting there. It gave me great pleasure to see the huge improvement of Toni and Cactus as I watched them compete in Grade 3 at Maryborough Horse Trials last weekend. Toni s dressage has improved and she rode the best cross-country course ever. She has recently been upgraded to C Grade Show Jumping and will compete in her first competition next week. Toni is friendly, polite, reliable and always beautifully presented she is a true sportswoman, an asset and role model for the junior members of our club. Sunday 30 th July 2006 Ingrid Gould competed in the ungraded and received a score of 18 for her dressage and clear show jumping (poles about 30cm). All riders received a certificate and a little box of chocolates which she carried around for the remainder of the day, and wouldn't share any with Mick. Molly Gould competed in Grade 4, she was coming 6th after dressage with a score of 39, unfortunately Gabby did not like the brick wall and Molly was eliminated after two refusals and a soft landing onto the sand. Paigan Gould competed in Grade 4, she was coming equal 2nd after the dressage with a score of 34, had a perfect show jumping and finished 2nd outright, she was very excited as this was only her 2nd Grade 4 event. There were Approx 18 riders in this Grade. Hannah Gould competed in Grade 3, she was coming 6th after dressage (there was only 7 in it) with a score of 60, she did a good job in the dressage and her horse Chloe was very relaxed. They then jumped beautifully and finished 3rd overall. Abby Fry competed in Grade 4 (combined training) on Roxy. With a dressage score of 45, she was placed 12th after the dressage, her show jumping was great and she finished 8th at the end of the day. Abby also did Grade 4 dressage which was the "C" test she ended up with a score of 63. Not sure of her overall placing Hannah also competed in "D" grade showing jumping which she was lucky enough to win after jumping beautifully in the final round with the jumps at maximum height, great effort Hannah. Paigan and Molly competed in "E" grade show jumping they both went clear in the first round and made the jump off, with the jumps at maximum height, Sandy decided they were out of his league and refused twice so they were eliminated. Molly after her earlier disappointment of being eliminated was determined to get around clear she did this with perfection and finished 4th after the jump off, so all and all a very successful day with everyone achieving something for the day. Show Jumping Competitors PLEASE NOTE: NTS stands for Not To Score. Sam and Kellie are scoring on Scrumpy and Apache. Paigan cannot score because another rider is riding Sandy in the Flat Ride. There are two Show Jumping Events. The first is a 2 Round Championship and the other is a Power and Speed Event. Ribbons will be awarded to the first six placegetters in each event in each grade. Points are awarded to each placegetter; these are added to other team member s scores to work out the Team Placing. Sashes are awarded to the sixth place in the team event. The interchange time is between JULY & DE- CEMBER. After 1st Jan 2007 only the new tests are to be used. Make sure of which test is to be ridden in the upcoming season of Dressage Tests Expected Standards Dressage 1.3 Grade 3 Dressage 1.3.a Grade 3 is for more experienced juniors and less experienced senior riders. Experienced senior riders may ride young horses in this stage. 1.3.b The rider should be starting to show an ability to influence the horse s way of going. This is possible due to a more balanced position, steadier hands and better understanding of application of the aids. The horse is not expected to be supple enough to go far into the corners as it may take uneven steps and bend its neck excessively and the smooth bend through the whole body is lost. The horse must not be ridden on too short a rein, which would result in short restricted paces, pulling, over bending and stiffness. There must be an obvious effort to ride the horse forward to contact on the bit with some resulting effect on the horse s frame. This does not have to be consistently maintained. At this grade riders should be able to ride accurate figures and transitions on the markers. 1.3.c Consistent over bending throughout a movement should be penalised with a mark below 5, as insufficient, with corresponding loss in collective marks. However, momentary lapses behind the vertical should not outweigh correct work shown in other aspects. Any restriction of the horse s natural stride by the use of too short a rein is insufficient. 4 July 2006 Dressage Tests 1.3.d Every sheet should report on the success, or otherwise, of the rider s efforts to round the horse up while keeping him going. This is basic to any further progress in the horse s education.

Tel: that which I was quite happy Going For my C Certificate. By Demcy Gibbs We arrived at Maldon pony club very early. I was very nervous but kept myself busy. I unloaded my horse and started to get him ready. I saddled up and waited to get a gear check. The lady said I had beautifully presented myself and my horse. She then asked us one at a time to hop of the near and off side correctly and I did (remembering what Rosemary taught us). We then got split into two groups, three in one and four in the other. My group went with Gail and we did flat work. The lady first asked us to do the warm up that we would normally do if we went to a horse trials, then we were asked to canter on the given leg which I had three goes at. I will need to improve on in the future because I had trouble with that. Then we were asked about the farrier s tool which I went alright on, and then we had a go at trying to gallop and I passed with. Then we had to lead our horses, she gave us directions of what to do, then it was time to jump with Aileen. Jet and I went quite well I just need to let my elbows go a little bit forward so Jet can stretch his head out a little bit so he can jump, (it was easy). We were then asked to go to our floats while the lady went around to our floats to watch the way we unsaddled, bandaged, rugged, tied our horses and lead them. After that happened it was all over, thank god! We waited around for a while and it wasn t a big presentation they just handed my c certificate and congratulated me. I PASSED; I was very happy and glad that it was over and done with. Congratulations Demcy It pays to get out & about: Congratulations to Abby-Rose Fry who has been Invited to train with the Victorian Junior Showjumping Squad team on the 30th September/1st October at Werribee. 6 Re-printed from Last month The Showjumping events For the Zone Flat Team Ride and SJ competition to Be held on the 27th August 2006 at Ararat are as follows: 1) Competition in Two Phases Table A, Article 274,.1,.2,.3,.4 and 5.2 for all grades. (2) Two Round Championship Table A, Article 273,.1. 2, 2.1, 3.2, 4.1 for all grades. Event 2 Article 273 COMPETITION OVER TWO ROUNDS 1. This competition comprises, with the same speed, two courses, identical or different, either in track or in number of obstacles or in the dimensions of the obstacles. Each competitor must participate with the same horse. Competitors, who have been eliminated or who have retired during the first round, may not take part in the second round and may not be placed. 2. All the competitors have to take part in the first round. The following go forward to the second round according to the conditions of the schedule: 2.1 either all competitors; 3.2 Not Not against Reverse order Same as 2nd against the clock of penalties round the clock in the 1st round; competitors retain their drawn order in case of equality of penalties 4.1 Competitors will be placed according to the penalties and time in the jump-off. The remaining competitors will be placed according to aggregate penalties over both rounds and the time incurred in the first round. Event 1 Article 274 COMPETITION IN TWO PHASES 1. This competition comprises two phases run without interruption, each at an identical or different speed, the finishing line for the first phase being identical with the starting line for the second phase. 2. The first phase is a course of 8 to 9 obstacles with or without combinations. The second phase takes place over 4 to 6 obstacles, which may include one combination. 3. Competitors penalised in the first phase are halted by ringing the bell after they have jumped the last obstacle or when the time allowed for the first phase has been exceeded, after crossing the finishing line of the first phase. They must stop after crossing the first finishing line. 4. Competitors not penalised in the first phase continue the course, which finishes, after crossing the second finishing line. 5. The manner of judging this competition must be specified in the schedule in accordance with one of the following formulas First phase Second phase Placing 5.2. Table A Table A According to the Not against the clock Against the clock penalties and time in the second phase and, if necessary, to the penalties in the first phase. You will see that on the Calendar on the front page, I have began to include what dressage test is to be performed. I will endeavour to include all future tests as I receive the entry forms. Example: Kingston PC, D & CT, G-3-5, D-(test C-2004), CT-(test B-2004) D = Dressage, CT = Combined Training, G-3-5 means only grades 3, 4, & 5 competition to be ran. This means that the Dressage part of the event is Test C, taken from the 2004 dressage test book (old book), the Combined Training part of the event is Test B taken from the 2004 dressage test book (old book) From January 2007 all PCAV tests are to be from the 2006 book KELLIES 21 ST BIRTHDAY PARTY On behalf of Laurie, Kellie and myself I would like to thank everyone for attending Kellies 21 st Party. I didn t want to upset the locals so decided to pull the plug on the karaoke machine, much to everyone s disappointment.
