1 Horse & Country Bendigo 56 Powell's Avenue, Strathdale, Vic At our last rally I was keen to catch up with everyone and pleased to see how our younger riders were going. I am pleased to award March Members of the Month to Rogie Carless and Aidan Medlyn. Rogie has only been a pony club member for a short time, in this time I have watched his confidence grow both on the horse and around our members, he is attempting to ride independently and is a pleasure to teach. Rogie has a lovely smile and a very natural position, I can see him becoming a capable little rider and popular with the members of the club. When instructing the young riders I was also amazed at the improvement in Aidan Medlyns riding. Aidan was able to trot around a show jumping course unassisted on his wonderful pony Paddy. Aidan is popular with all of the members and has a couple of young girls competing for his affection. He is polite, will help out when asked and is happy to give any activity a go. The young members of our club are our future, it is important that we encourage, support and guide them. Congratulations boys, remember to spend your $10 voucher wisely. 2 Reminder: YOUR CARD / YOUR RESPONSIBILITY It is the Members responsibility to ensure that you have your card with you at all competitions. A verification form is only acceptable when the card has been genuinely lost or destroyed ie Fire or Flood. When a verification form is used, it must still have documented evidence of your current grading and dates graded filled out by your DC or Card Secretary so hence needs to be completed WELL before the event, If you have simply forgotten your card, then this is not acceptable. Detailed information is available from the PCAV website. It is the MEMBERS responsibility to check that they have the required attendance to enable the combination to compete at events. Every COMBINATION requires 2 rally s within the last 12 Months. All JUNIOR members require 5 Rallies within the last 12 months, if you are an ASSOCIATE member (17 or over) you will only require 2 rallies within the last 12 months The PCAV Club Member Card is the riders PCAV club membership record and establishes that the rider is also registered with the PCAV. The card must be kept up to date and accurately completed. After the first year of club membership, members are required to keep two cards as their membership record, preferably kept in the official PCAV vinyl cover. Cards required are the current years card and the previous years card. You let Faye know if you are not attending the Rally You Arrive early and help set up You Write your name and horse on the attendance list You are polite and courteous to your instructors You ATTEND ALL your lessons You DON T leave early without communicating with Faye Faye spends hours organising lessons, please show her some respect and attend them ALL, it is very disappointing watching senior club members sitting on the sidelines, Senior riders are the role models for the junior members, the excuses.i don't do games!...i don't do dressage! I don't do handy mount! Etc. 4 A woman opened her refrigerator and saw a rabbit sitting on one of the shelves, What are you doing in there she asked The rabbit replied this is a westing house isn't it? To which the lady replied, yes Well the rabbit said I m westing Membership fee s The State Council of PCAV has approved the new fees for In a new initiative the PCAV membership fees for the Year will include 24/7 Personal Accident cover for Riding Members. This is a new option that was offered by AON on a one in all in basis. State Council voted to include 24/7 pa cover in the PCAV Membership fees in July 2011 after receiving feedback from Clubs. However, due to the logistics of collecting the fees it was agreed to defer the implementation until the year. In February 2012 State Council voted to accept the 24/7 pa cover fee proposed by AON for the membership year. 6 In Loving Memory of Muffin On the 23rd October, 2011, Leah Holt and her parents, Neil and Catherine, gave us the loveliest gift...free lease of their pony Muffin. Muffin was loaded up and brought home to two very nervous riders. Josh started with Muffin, always at a walk or trot. Josh was too scared to canter, and Muffin took care of him. On Boxing Day Josh finally decided he was ready to canter, and the look in Muffin s eyes clearly said Oh crap, the holiday is over! Within two days Josh decided he wanted to be a jockey, and he and Muffin would be cantering across the paddock, and rounding up the sheep. When we needed another pony for Ben, who was extremely nervous and had no confidence at all, it was decided that he would take Muffin over and Josh would move up. Muffin was the only pony Ben would canter on, and the only pony he would go over small jumps on. She looked after him at all times with the patience of an angel. I commented to everyone how blessed and lucky we were to have been allowed to take Muffin into our family, especially as the Holt family had never met us prior to us picking her up. When Faye Barnett had first mentioned the possiblility of speaking to the Holt family for us her words were I know of this Bonza pony who would suit your boys down to the ground. How right she was. On the 22nd Feb, Muffin became unwell, and the local vet was called. Muffin had colic. Over the next 24hrs we did everything we could, to no avail. On the 23rd Feb at midnight, Muffin was operated on at the Ballarat Equine Hospital. Midway through the operation the surgeon informed us that he would not be able to save Muffin, and to be kind he advised that she be put to sleep. With tears in our eyes, and lumps in our throats, we made the awful trip home without little Muffin. The dread of having to tell Leah, Catherine and Neil of Muffins passing was made so much easier by their absolute kindness and forgiveness. We are still shedding tears for Muffin, and will for a long time to come. We also know that it will be impossible to find a pony that comes even close to Muffin. R.I.P Muffin Sadly missed, but never forgotten. The Baumgartner Family.

7 Thank you to all those riders who send me results & photos of competitions attended, it is greatly appreciated. Last weekend Samantha Palmer attended the "Ballarat Show Jumping Series", competing on her horse La Roux. Sam rode in the 1 m 5 class which was the highest class for the day. While this height is lower than B Grade there were a number of very talented horses and riders in the event. Ballarat are very fortunate to have "Jump for Joy" jumps which are very colourful, scary and challenging to riders used to competing in courses with just wings and poles. In the first class Sam took our third place, in the second event failed to make the jump off as she took one rail. In the final and most challenging event Sam rode extremely well to take out first place. For her efforts she was presented with a sash and a trophy of "Tuff Rock". As I was attending the event with Kellie, I was able to watch Sam ride, she has done an amazing job to be able to ride this very large, strong horse around a course without taking any rails. Sam has been having regular lessons with Allan Mitchell which I feel has helped her to get to the standard that she rides at today. Faye Barnett Who s a hard working Girl.. All Hands on Deck..
