1 Saddleland McIvor Road Bendigo Vic Members of the Month This month s awards go to two club members who have shown a huge improvement in their riding ability. I have watched James Stuart attend many pony club camps and lessons on difficult horses and have been amazed at his ability to stay in the saddle. Sometimes I thought that James would have preferred to be sitting on the veranda rather than having a lesson but he was always polite and respectful to his instructors and did what was asked. It has been wonderful to see the huge improvement in James riding and jumping ability and I was very pleased to upgrade him. Congratulations James, I am glad to award you member of the month for your dedication and perseverance with riding and jumping. You are a good club member and I hope that you have had some happy times at our club. Another rider that has gone ahead in leaps and bounds is Keslea Nisbet. Kelsea is one of our newer, younger members who came to our club on a lead. Watching the other riders Kelsea decided that she wanted to do what the other kids were doing so with regular pony club and camp attendances Kelsea has learnt heaps. She now attends weekly dressage lessons and jumping lessons when possible. 4 Sally Calamity Park Karisma 5/10/ /10/2010 Written by Kylie Scilini On Wednesday the 13 th of October, Sally s Journey in life ended. At 25years young Sally lived a good life, giving a lot of pleasure and fun for the past 11 years to the Scilini Family, and especially with me (Kylie). Sally was a grey Australian Pony Mare that a lot of people knew well. She was best known for her piggy attitude whenever another horse would come near her! Her ears would fly back and she would squeal at them telling them who was boss. But she was the opposite around people. Sally loved getting attention, she enjoyed many pats, cuddles and kisses off anyone who was near her. Sally especially enjoyed her feed. She loved her apples and carrots and always paced up and down the fence at night waiting to receive her mix. 3 years ago, Sally got a companion in her life, this being Brandon. At first Sally hated him, she didn t want a bar of him! Until, they became inseparable. They had to be with each other all the time and if one of them was taken away the other would neigh until they got back! Being a grey pony, Sally was always hard to keep clean especially before a competition. We would scrub and scrub her, hoping that in the morning she would still be clean. Nope! This was rarely the case. Sally loved to lie down and have a roll and also loved to poo in her tail! This meant early rising to start scrubbing again. Sally excelled in all disciplines. She loved to jump and she had the elegance and quiet temperament suited for a dressage pony. Sally loved playing polocrosse, secretly i think she always thought the ball was an apple! But i think it s safe to say Sally s favourite activity were games and novelties. Sally had the speed and athleticism to make a wonderful games pony. Not to mention the fantastic tight turn around the end pole. Sally s favourite race was the flag and drum. Sally s skill of being able to make a tight turn and gather up the speed in the straight always meant happy results in this event. Sally s last competition was at the Smokey Memorial Novelty Day in 2008, where she and I won the fastest time around the Smokey Memorial Course, the only combination to go under 3 minutes. I have to say, over the past 11 years Sally has taught me how to ride and boosted my confidence up to its peak. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Always missed, and never forgotten Sally, I love you so much. I will never forget you, nor I hope you will never forget me. R.I.P Beautiful Girl xoxoxoxoxo Flie 4/10/2010 by Faye It was an extremely sad day on Monday when my friend of 12 1/2 years was put to sleep. While Flie never lost her appetite and enjoyed the many treats that Kellie purchased for her the size of her leg continued to grow causing it to weep and break open. I bandaged the leg which gave her some support but it soon became evident that she was finding it difficult to get comfortable and it was obviously causing her some pain. The decision to put her to sleep was made by myself, on Sunday evening she sat on the bath mat while I took a bath, she hobbled up to the bedroom and settled under my bed while I cried myself to sleep. Laurie, Kellie and I spent the day with her on Monday, she had more treats and sat calmly while I brushed her beautiful coat. She could not stay in the same spot for long, at one stage she walked away and then returned and sat beside me, she looked into my eyes and then placed her paw onto my arm. I promised that I would take her pain away, but wondered who would take mine away once she was gone. Chris arrived and as I held Flie in my arms and told her that I loved her, she peacefully fell asleep. She is buried in our paddock next to some of our other animals. Flie was a beautiful, kind dog who always enjoyed a pat and a kind word. She touched my life in a way that is hard to describe.

6 The Committee and members of Bendigo Pony Club thank the Committee and members of Bealiba Pony Club for allowing our club access and use of your fantastic grounds and facilities for our November camp/rally. All who attended had a wonderful time and as a club we were very impressed with the organisation and facilities and obvious club community that makes Bealiba pony club such a special member of the PCAV. The following is a report that will go into our next newsletter about our camp/rally written by one of our members Bendigo camps at bealiba by Angela Goudge On Saturday the 6 th of November we combined a pony club camp with Mandurang south at Bealiba pony club grounds. We all rolled in on Saturday afternoon, set up and made the horses comfortable. When everyone was ready, Trish Goudge and Leanne Nelson instructed a number of members from both clubs on how to make ribbon browbands with their horse s names or their pony clubs name on them in pony club colours while the rest of us worked our horses and went over some of the cross country jumps. After that dinner was cooked and the fire was lit. Thanks to Matt and Daryl it was the best camp fire ever, and then the games began! We played a number of games and the group was spit into Mandurang and Bendigo. The games were great and we fought it off to become the winners but Mandurang put up a great fight. I m sure they will be aiming to take us out next year though. Soon after that all the kids went to bed but the adults stayed up drinking and talking loudly! Sunday morning we were up and fed all the horses and then it was 7.30am and time for breaky Thanks to the Mums, some of the kids and Daryl. It was amazing. The grounds got set up and the rally started with Liam for showjumping, Jason for flat, Trish Goudge and Leanne Nelson for browbands, Brian Davidge for polo cross, Dawn Berry for cross country and Jaclyn Long for Saddle Club. All in all it was a great camp. I m sure Mandurang feels the same. Thank-you to everyone for making this one of the best camps ever and thanks to Bealiba Pony Club for allowing us to use your great facilities for the weekend!!
