We had been invited up to the Broadford State Motorcycle Complex by Champions earlier this year to promote their ride days but today there was an ulterior motive to get a look at the track before the

I had planned to do the DMCC off road champs round at enduro at Erica this weekend but because of the rain it was shifted to Wonthaggi as a sprint, and my mojo was all over the place. We had been invited up to the Broadford State Motorcycle Complex by Champions earlier this year to promote their ride days but today there was an ulterior motive to get a look at the track before the next round of the Northerns this coming Saturday and to give you Northern Series riders a bit of a heads up. Aren t we kind?? Even as we drove through Kinglake on Sunday morning it was still raining and the light rain persisted all the way to the track. We arrived around 10am with a few riders circulating round the track in the muddy conditions. But nevertheless they were having fun and blue skies were poking through the clouds. Jo went over to sign in, finding coordinator Rikki Dryden keeping warm in the demountable. Always smiling and helpful, Rikki Dryden, Champions Ride Days For those of you who don't know how Champion Ride Days work here s a run down: No flaggie duty and sweep riders are provided Free snacks and drink all day Medical team on hand No club membership needed Fully prepped track Photographer at every event to get pics of you and your mates (at Broadford it is mobile ) One day licences available if you don t have an MA licence Graded sessions for juniors and seniors Riding from 9am to 5pm All sessions announced on the PA system with 5 minute warning Mechanic on duty to help you with bike set up and tyre changing, tyres for sale and fitted throughout the day Accessories such as goggles, gloves, helmets for sale Coaching, riding gear and bikes available for hire Where can you go and ride for a day and have someone knowledge and experienced help you with your bike set up and give you riding tips? Wayne (Day Manager), Dean (tyres and technical) and Josh (sweep) were all ready to help today. 2

We thought we d give you a heads up - now, anyone going up/down to Broadford next Saturday for the Northerns I would say new rubber is a must. Do not turn up with old tyres and expect to get traction!

As you may know from the Gippies at Maffra-Sale and the Senior Vics at Colac, tracks can be challenging and ever changing in unpredictable winter weather. But that doesn t mean they are not fun or safe to ride it s the attitude you bring, the preparation that you do and the way you adjust to these conditions that matters. We thought we d give you a heads up - now, anyone going up/down to Broadford next Saturday for the Northerns I would say new rubber is a must. Do not turn up with old tyres and expect to get traction! Get along to your local motorbike shop and grab a set or two or try someone like Savage MX (Ben Handasyde) at or AMX stores ( for great deals. Even with the Seymour round the next day on the Sunday I think that at both venues tyres and tyre pressures will make a huge difference so don t get caught out! And add to your usual check list A good quantity of tear offs Spare goggles A couple of pairs of gloves Spare riding gear A sense of humour 4
