He is now working on his master s degree in Organizational Leadership. - Williams-Goss is the sixth Zag to be named Academic All-American First Team, and the first since Kelly Olynyk in 013. WILLIAMS-GOSS NAMED A NAISMITH SEMIFINALIST - Nigel Williams-Goss was named to the Naismith Trophy Men s College Player of the Year Semifinalist List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club released Wednesday. - Four finalists will be announced March 19. The 49th awarding of the James A. Naismith Trophy to the most outstanding college basketball player will be presented April in Scottsdale, Ariz. ZAGS RACK UP CONFERENCE AWARDS - Nigel Williams-Goss was named the West Coast Conference Men s Basketball Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, and Mark Few was selected as the Coach of the Year league officials announced Tuesday. - Williams-Goss is the 14th Zag to be named the conference s Player of the Year. He was the first student-athlete named Player and Newcomer of the Year in WCC history. - Few extended his own conference record, capturing his 11th Coach of the Year plaque. - Przemek Karnowski and Johnathan Williams joined Williams-Goss on the WCC First Team. Zach Collins was named to the second team and freshman team. Jordan Mathews and Josh Perkins were tabbed honorable mention All-Conference. - All four individual awards -- along with the All-West Coast Conference Teams and the All-Freshman Team -- were voted on by the league s 10 head coaches. JUST FINE AT THE LINE - Nigel Williams-Goss tops the WCC, and is seventh in the nation, shooting 90.9 percent from the free-throw line. - He made 73 of his 79 (9.4 percent) free-throw attempts during conference play, which also led the league. - The redshirt junior has made his last 38 shots from the line. Derek Raivio owns the GU and WCC record at 56 in-a-row. He served as an assistant coach at GU for 10 seasons prior to taking the reins of the program. Few has put together one of the most dominating runs in NCAA history, especially in the West Coast Conference. The Zags have won or shared 15 regular season league titles in his 17 seasons and taken home the conference tournament championship 13 times. The Bulldogs won or shared 11 straight West Coast Conference regular-season titles from , which was the longest current active streak in the nation at the time and the second-best streak all-time in the NCAA Division I ranks behind UCLA s 13 Pac-10 Conference titles from Gonzaga has been to the Dance in each of his 17 seasons, and 18 times in a row overall. When Dan Monson departed for the University of Minnesota following that Elite Eight season, Few was named head coach and has continued the streak the past 16 years. Gonzaga ended the season with a 8-8 record in the program s seventh Sweet 16 appearance. The Zags shared the West Coast Conference regular season title, before winning the WCC Tournament for the 15th time in program history. Kyle Wiltjer and Domantas Sabonis were both named First Team All-WCC, while Eric McClellan was tabbed the league s Defender of the Year. Wiltjer and Sabonis were named honorable mention All-Americans by the Associated Press. Wiltjer also received a Senior CLASS All-American honor. In 015, Gonzaga took full advantage of that 17th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, making a run to the Elite Eight, before falling to eventual national champion Duke. The Zags won a school-record 35 games last season, including a record -game win streak, and WCC regular season and tournament titles. Few was named WCC Coach of the Year in a sweep of league individual awards -- Kevin Pangos, Player of the Year; Gary Bell Jr., Defender of the Year, Kyle Wiltjer Newcomer of the Year. In addition, Pangos and Wiltjer each earned multiple All-America honors, including Third Team accolades from the Associated Press. Nigel Williams-Goss scored 19 points for Gonzaga (9-1, 17-1 West Coast). Johnathan Williams recorded his third straight double-double with 1 points and 1 rebounds. Jordan Mathews also had 1 points. Przemek Karnowski and Josh Perkins both scored 10 points. Mika s basket with a minute left gave BYU (1-10, 1-6) a lead. Gonzaga came out fired up and jumped to an 18- lead in the first five minutes, making 7 of 10 shots. The Zags cooled off and three consecutive 3-pointers by BYU s T.J. Haws cut Gonzaga s lead to 6-. Mika s basket cut Gonzaga s lead to one point before the Bulldogs closed with a 10-5 run to take a lead at halftime. Zach Collins putback gave Gonzaga a lead midway through the second.
