3 LAST TIME OUT Emma O Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) set a new career-high with 20 points and the Marist women s basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Manhattan win a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game Friday evening at Draddy Gymnasium. The game was broadcast nationally on ESPN3. O Connor also tied for the team lead with six rebounds, matching Elizabeth Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.) who finished with 16 points, including 6-7 from the free throw line. Marist shot 52% (13-25) from the field in the second half and 36.4% for the game. The Red Foxes had 18 assists on 20 made field goals overall. The defense held Manhattan to 31.3% shooting from the field, including just 28% in the second half while forcing 25 turnovers for the third time this season. NAILING THEIR FREE THROWS After Marist s 96% effort from the free throw line on Jan. 20 at Niagara, the Red Foxes rank fifth in the country in free-throw percentage (.788). Three players sit in the top-100 in the country for individual free throw percentage. Kristina Danella (83.6%) sits 55th, Casey Dulin (82.5%) is 71st and Sydney Coffey (80.7%) is 100th. Even though she has only played at Marist for 1+ seasons, Danella already qualifies to rank first all-time in program history in free throw percentage, having gone (.877). STRONG TO THE BASKET Marist has gone to the charity stripe 27 times (1.5/game) this year with the opportunity to complete a three-point play and have completed 20 of those chances. Elizabeth Beynnon leads the way with eight And One opportunites, completing the task six times. Sydney Coffey is a perfect 6-6 and Casey Dulin and Kristina Danella have each converted three three-point plays. Emma O Connor is also 2-2 on the season. Last season, in 34 games, the Red Foxes went in these situations, attempting 1.3 three-point plays per game. STARTING LINEUPS After using eight different lineups all of last season, Head Coach Brian Giorgis has already used six different starting lineups this year. The only two players that have stayed locked in the starting five are Leanne Ockenden at guard and Elizabeth Beynnon at forward. Casey Dulin has started all but two games as she was not in the starting lineup versus Princeton due to back spasms and against Iona due to an excused absence from practice. Emma O Connor did not start two games due to a wrist injury. Natalie Gomez started 10 consecutive games from Nov. 17 through Jan. 4. Kristina Danella has also made three starts, Kristine Best has made six and Sydney Coffey has made two starts. Coffey made her first career start in just her third career game, becoming the fastest player to join the starting lineup in Giorgis tenure. RANKED AMONGST THE MID-MAJORS After receiving one vote in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll, the Red Foxes moved up to as many as seven votes after the first weekend of games. For the first few weeks of the season, Marist had been ranked in the top 10 of the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major poll, but have dropped to #13 in this week s poll. The Red Foxes have reached as high as sixth and are the only team from the MAAC in the Top-25. Also making the list is Princeton at #8, who Marist defeated on Nov. 17 in Poughkeepsie when the Tigers were ranked 4th. Hartford and Boston University, who have both beaten the Red Foxes, are also ranked, sitting at #23 and #9, respectively.
