Manhattan Facts * Manhattan enters today s game with a record of 4-4 and 1-0 in the MAAC. In its MAAC opener on Friday, the Lady Jaspers rebounded from an eight-point halftime deficit to earn a win at Siena. Manhattan scored just 13 points in the second half, but outscored the Saints after the intermission. Freshman guard Jenna Franciosa poured in 16 points for the Lady Jaspers, leading all scorers. * Thus far, Marist and Manhattan share one common opponent: Fordham. Three days after the Red Foxes beat the Rams by 50, Fordham came back to earn a victory over Manhattan. Fordham dressed just six players against Marist, but got guard Lisa Carrol and forward LaToya Chalmers back for the Lady Jaspers. Both Carrol and Chalmers had career highs in scoring, combining 40 in the win over Manhattan. * In addition to Siena, Manhattan s other victories are against Fairleigh Dickinson, Columbia and Hartford. Besides Fordham, the Lady Jaspers losses have occurred against Providence, Buffalo and Quinnipiac. * The Red Foxes and Lady Jaspers are ranked 1-2 in the MAAC in scoring defense. No Manhattan opponent has scored 65 points this season. * Six of Manhattan s eight games this season have been decided by 10 points or less. The Lady Jaspers are 3-3 in those contests. * Head Coach Myndi Hill is in her fourth year guiding the Lady Jaspers, and her record at Manhattan is (.389). In Hill s first three seasons, the Lady Jaspers have posted identical records every year. Prior to arriving in Riverdale, Hill was the head coach at Saint Francis (Pa.) for four seasons. In three of those years, the team reached the NCAA Tournament. * Junior forward Caitlin Flood leads Manhattan in scoring (12.1), rebounds (6.3) and minutes per game (32.0). Flood also is tied for the team lead with 12 steals. She has led the Lady Jaspers in scoring twice and rebounding four times this season. In her freshman year, Flood had a double-double against the Red Foxes, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the teams Feb. 20, 2005 meeting at Draddy Gymnasium. * Manhattan has no seniors on this year s roster. The Lady Jaspers have five freshmen, two sophomores and five juniors. * The only Lady Jasper to receive Preseason All-MAAC honors was junior guard Joann Nwafili, who was named to the Second Team. Meet Coach Giorgis Brian Giorgis is in his fifth season as Head Coach of the Marist women s basketball team. Last year, Giorgis led Marist to a program-best 23 triumphs and its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last three seasons. The Red Foxes embarked on winning streaks of seven and 12 games as they claimed at least a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regularseason crown for the third straight season. Last year also marked the third consecutive season in which Marist won 20 games, a feat which was only accomplished in one season prior to Giorgis arrival. His Marist record stands at 84-43, and he has won 65 of his last 86 games since the middle of the season. As a result, Giorgis was once again honored by his peers. For the third straight year, he earned at least a share of MAAC Coach of the Year honors. Giorgis split the award with Iona s Tony Bozzella last season, shared it with Niagara s Bill Agronin in 2005 and won it outright in The only other MAAC women s coach to win the award three years in a row was La Salle s John Miller, who captured it from Prior to his arrival at Marist, Giorgis enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. In his final season there, the girls basketball team finished with a fourth-place national ranking in the USA Today poll and earned its fourth straight New York State Federation Championship. He earned WBCA Region One Coach of the Year honors, was runner-up for WBCA National Coach of the Year honors and was selected to coach at the Phoenix/WBCA High School All-America Game. 5 Last Time Out The Red Foxes earned their fifth consecutive victory on Friday, posting a home triumph over Loyola in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener. With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 6-2 overall, which is their best record after eight games in school history. Senior point guard Alisa Kresge tied her season highs in assists with 10 and rebounds with seven. Kresge also had two steals and played all 40 minutes. Kresge was instrumental in holding Loyola's Jill Glessner, the MAAC's second-leading scorer entering Friday's play, to four points on 2-for-13 shooting. Freshman forward Rachele Fitz led the Red Foxes in scoring and rebounding, finishing with 12 and eight, respectively. Home Sweet Home Friday s win over Loyola extended Marist s home winning streak to 15 games. After dropping its home opener to Villanova last year, Marist proceeded to win its final 11 games at the McCann Center. Since the start of the season, Marist is 36-6 at home. Marist comes into today riding a 17-game home winning streak against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents. The last time Marist lost to a MAAC foe at the McCann Center was on Jan. 8, 2005, when Canisius earned a win over the Red Foxes. Marist proceeded to win its final seven MAAC home games that season, and swept the MAAC home slate last season. The Red Foxes have also won their last nine home games by at least 10 points. The last opponent to come within single digits of Marist at the McCann Center is Loyola, which suffered a loss on Jan. 16, Déjà Vu For the Third Time? If the Red Foxes prevail today, they will improve to 2-0 in the MAAC. In its nine previous years in the conference, Marist has had two 2-0 starts, five 1-1 starts and two 0-2 starts. The previous two times Marist started 2-0 were the and seasons. Those were the two years the Red Foxes advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Marist also started its conference slate with two home games in those seasons, just as it has done this campaign. Fitz Named MAAC Rookie of the Week - Again Freshman forward Rachele Fitz was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. This is the second straight week Fitz has earned the award from the conference office. In Marist's two victories this past week, Fitz averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. She shot.522 (12-for-23) from the field and.778 (7-for-9) from the line in those two games. Fitz is the second Marist player in school history to win MAAC Rookie of the Week awards in successive weeks. Kristen Vilardi accomplished the feat in the season. Only two other Red Foxes -- Vilardi and Julianne Viani, who did it last season -- have won two MAAC Rookie of the Week awards in a single season. Red Foxes Sign Four Head Coach Brian Giorgis has announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent in the early signing period. Élise Caron (Quebec, Canada), Maria Laterza (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Sarah Huff (Canal Winchester, Ohio) will join the Red Foxes for the season. The additions of Allenspach and Huff will give the Red Foxes six players from Ohio next season, as the incoming freshmen will join Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills), Courtney Kolesar (Concord), Lynzee Johnson (Xenia) and Sarah Smrdel (Mentor). Élise Caron (Quebec, Canada/College Edouard - Montpetit) Caron, a 5-5 point guard, was named Canadian National Player of the Year last year. She averaged 21 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals per game. Giorgis on Caron: She's a point guard who does a lot of things that we like. The first thing that caught our eye was her ability to defend. She sees the floor well and can distribute the ball, and she can also score. She has a tremendous work ethic. Maria Laterza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) Laterza, a 6-3 center, was rated as one of the top five post players in the New York City. She was named First Team All-Brooklyn and First Team All-City, averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds per game last year. Giorgis on Laterza: She's a strong, athletic post player who will give us a lot of power and strength on the inside. She's a very physical player, which we need up front. She's loaded with scoring potential around the basket and stepping out. Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) Allenspach's AAU team, the Dayton Lady HoopStars, finished fourth at Nationals this past summer. A 5-8 guard/forward, Allenspach averaged 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals last year. Giorgis on Allenspach: She has a real solid all-around game. She defends, she can score, she's very athletic and a great offensive rebounder for a guard. She has a nice jump shot. We saw her when we saw Lynzee Johnson. She is a consummate team player who just does everything well. Sarah Huff (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) Huff, a 6-3 power forward, was named First Team All- Mid State League and Third Team All-Ohio Central District. She averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots per game last season. Giorgis on Huff: "She really runs the floor well. She's more of a mobile power forward who has a nice shooting touch, especially around the basket. She's a very bright kid, a very smart basketball player. (Huff and Laterza) will have a year to learn under Meg Dahlman and Sarah Smrdel. Hopefully by their sophomore year, they can help Rachele Fitz and Lynzee Johnson out on the front line." 2004, 2006 MAAC Tournament Champions 5

Page 13 of today s game notes includes more NCAA and MAAC stats. 15 Turnovers And a Victory To Go, Please The Red Foxes have won their last 17 games when they force the opposition to commit at least 15 turnovers. In Marist s last 21 games (dating back to last season), the Red Foxes are 17-0 when forcing at least 15 turnovers and 0-4 when forcing less than 15. Marist s last loss when forcing 15 turnovers was an defeat at Saint Peter s on Jan. 22, She Gives... She Takes... She Rebounds Senior point guard Alisa Kresge had the seventh 10- plus assist game of her career with 10 on Friday s win vs. Loyola. She also had two steals, giving her 50 multi-steal games in her career. Kresge established a season high with seven rebounds on Dec. 2 and Bucknell, and tied that total in the Loyola game. Fitz Loves McCann Center Freshman forward Rachele Fitz was nearly automatic in the Red Foxes three home games this season. In the wins over Stony Brook, Dartmouth and Fordham, Fitz is shooting 20-for-22 (.909) from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. In Marist s first three home games, Fitz literally scored a point a minute in 51 minutes of action. On Friday against Loyola, Fitz shot just 4-for-14, but still led the Red Foxes in both points (12) and rebounds (eight). 6 Inside the Winning Streak The Red Foxes have won five straight, the eighth time in the last four years Marist has won at least four games in a row. Prior to the season, the Red Foxes had won four in a row just twice in the previous 10 seasons. All five of Marist s victories in the current span have come by at least 10 points. The Red Foxes have only won more than five straight all by double digits once in program history -- last season, a seven-game stretch. Reaching 70 The Red Foxes recently had a stretch of topping the 70- point plateau in each of their last three games, scoring 77 against Dartmouth, 88 against Fordham and 71 at Brown. This marked the first time since Brian Giorgis became head coach that the Red Foxes have scored at least 70 in three consecutive outings. The last time Marist had scored at least 70 in three straight games was in the season. The Red Foxes scored 71 at Manhattan, 70 vs. Rider and 82 at Canisius -- and lost all three games. Earlier that season, Marist had a separate streak of five straight games with at least 70 points. The Red Foxes went 4-1 in that span. Marist has won 19 of its last 20 when reaching 70 points. Under 50 Marist has now won 29 consecutive games when holding an opponent to 50 or less. Friday s win over Loyola was the 38th time since Brian Giorgis became head coach that the Red Foxes held a team to 50 or less in a game. Marist s record in those contests is a staggering Since the start of the campaign, Marist has held 31 opponents to 50 or less. How About 40? The Dec. 2 win at Bucknell marked the seventh time in the last three years the Red Foxes held a team under 40 points in a game: 34: 11/29/04, vs. New Hampshire 35: 1/16/05, vs. Rider 38: 12/2/06, at Bucknell 38: 11/26/06, vs. Fordham 39: 12/17/05, vs. Harvard 39: 2/3/05, vs. Iona 39: 1/20/06, vs. Siena No. 2 Is No And No. 8 With four assists on Nov. 28 at Brown, senior point guard Alisa Kresge moved into second place on Marist s all-time assists list, passing Beth Shackel. Kresge now has 455 career assists. Nina Vecchio, who was teammates with Kresge in Marist s 2004 championship season, holds the top spot on the list with 563. Like Kresge, Vecchio is also a native of Holmdel, N.J. Kresge, who began the season in 10th place on Marist s all-time steals list, moved into sole possession of eighth in the Nov. 22 game against Fordham. She currently stands at 165 career steals. Seventh place on the all-time list is held by Danielle Galarneau, who recorded 181 from GoRedFoxes.com -- The Official Web Site of Marist Athletics

Quick Starters The Red Foxes have trailed at the half in just 12 of their 67 games the last three seasons. In that span, the Red Foxes have trailed by more than 10 points just once. Listed below are the Red Foxes records in relation to their halftime score over the last three seasons: Winning: 45-7 Losing: 4-8 Tied: 2-1 The Red Foxes have won 10 consecutive games when leading at halftime. Connecting From Downtown The Red Foxes have hit a three-pointer in 69 consecutive games. The last game in which Marist did not hit a three was its victory over Saint Peter s on March 6, 2004 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. That was the only game since Brian Giorgis became head coach that the Red Foxes did not hit a three, meaning they have hit at least one in 126 of their last 127 games. Marist s high for three-pointers in a game last season was 12, which came on Feb. 17 at Iona. The Red Foxes hit at least 10 three-pointers on three occasions last year. Their season high for is 11, which came against Fordham on Nov. 26. Meg s Milestones Red-shirt junior center Meg Dahlman scored her 500th career point in the Nov. 28 victory over Brown. It was the second career milestone she achieved in the matter of a week, as on Nov. 22 against Dartmouth, Dahlman hauled in the 200th rebound of her career. These totals include Dahlman s time at Holy Cross, where she played the season before transferring to Marist. She is Marist s leading scorer and second-leading rebounder (trailing Alisa Kresge) among active players. Difficult Schedule The Red Foxes have once again assembled a challenging schedule. In the campaign, Marist will have 14 games against teams which won at least 17 games last season. Eight of the Red Foxes 11 non-conference contests fit this criteria. Marist will also have the opportunity to play each of the participants in last year s national championship game. On Nov. 17, the Red Foxes fell to last year s national runnerup, Duke. Marist will play in the Terrapin Classic Dec , hosted by defending national champion Maryland. The Red Foxes will play defending Big South champion Liberty in the first round on Dec. 29, while Maryland will play UNC Greensboro. Depending on the first-round results, there is a possibility Marist could face Maryland on Dec. 30. The Red Foxes first four games were all against teams which advanced to postseason play last year. In addition to Duke, Dartmouth was also an NCAA Tournament participant last year. Stony Brook and Villanova earned berths in the postseason WNIT. Bench Productivity In each of the last six games, a Red Fox has come off the bench and finish with a least a share of the team lead in scoring. Freshman forward Rachele Fitz has had at least a share of the team lead in scoring in Marist s previous five games. On Nov. 19 at Villanova, junior guard Nikki Flores scored 14 in a reserve role to tie Meg Dahlman for the team lead. In the previous two seasons, a Marist player came off the bench to lead the team in scoring in a game just once. That came in last year s MAAC Tournament semifinals, when Sarah Smrdel had 16 to lead the Red Foxes over Iona. Marist has had nine double-digit scorers off the bench this year (Fitz seven times, Flores once, Shannon Minter once). Last season, a Red Fox came off the bench to score in double digits 15 times (Flores 6, Sarah Smrdel 6, Courtney Kolesar 1, Minter 1, Dahlman 1). On the season, the Marist bench has accounted for 46.4% of the team s total points. The Red Foxes reserves have outscored the opposition s reserves by a margin of 255 to 77. Attacking the Offensive Glass Friday s win over Loyola marked the first time this season Marist won when having under 10 offensive rebounds: 11/10 vs. Stony Brook: 12 (win) 11/17 at Duke: 9 (loss) 11/19 at Villanova: 5 (loss) 11/22 vs. Dartmouth: 15 (win) 11/26 vs. Fordham: 14 (win) 11/28 at Brown: 14 (win) 12/2 at Bucknell: 11 (win) 12/8 vs. Loyola: 8 (win) The Red Foxes have won 24 of their last 26 games when they have secured at least 12 offensive rebounds. Lineup (In)Stability(?) The Red Foxes had stuck mostly to the same starting lineup in the previous two seasons. In that time, Marist has used a total of just five different starting lineups -- two in the season, and three in the season. This year saw Head Coach Brian Giorgis utilize three different lineups in the team s first three games. The Red Foxes used a Kresge/Viani/Waters/Smrdel/Dahlman lineup for four straight games, but then switched it up the last two games, going with Kresge/Flores/Viani/Smrdel/ Dahlman. Here is Marist s record this season by lineup: Kresge/Flores/Waters/Smrdel/Dahlman: 1-0 Kresge/Viani/Waters/Smrdel/Dahlman: 3-1 Kresge/Flores/Viani/Smrdel/Dahlman: 2-1 This Date In Marist History Brian Giorgis earned his first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory as head coach, as the Red Foxes posted a win at Fairfield. Marist s Maureen Magarity led all scorers with 21 points, and also hauled in 10 rebounds. It was the third consecutive game Magarity scored at least , 2006 MAAC Tournament Champions 7

Stopping the Skid By defeating Dartmouth on Nov. 22, the Red Foxes kept a positive trend from recent years -- not letting back-toback losses turn into extended losing streaks. Marist had suffered consecutive losses to Duke and Villanova in overtime prior to the Dartmouth game. Since the start of the season, Marist has had just one losing streak of more than two games. That came at the start of the season, when the Red Foxes lost their first four before winning 23 of their final 26 and going to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years. Besides the four-game skid to open last season, Marist has had just four instances of back-to-back losses in the last four seasons. Feisty Flores Junior guard Nikki Flores was difficult to stop down the stretch in Marist s overtime loss at Villanova. Flores tied her career high with 14 points in the game, and 10 of them came in the final four minutes of regulation and overtime. For the game, she shot 3-for-4 from the field, 1-for-2 from three-point range and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Along the way came a couple of milestones, as Flores hit the 100th free throw of her career and scored her 300th point in a Marist uniform. Marist vs. Non-Conference Foes With a 5-4 non-conference record last season, the Red Foxes posted a winning mark against out-of-conference teams in back-to-back years for the first time in program history. In the season, Marist was 6-3 against teams not belonging to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Under Brian Giorgis, the Red Foxes have compiled a regular-season record against non-conference opponents. The includes a record of 15-4 at the McCann Center, 8-14 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites. Against teams from BCS conferences (Auburn, Georgia, Providence, St. John s, UConn, Villanova and Duke), the Red Foxes are 0-8. Ivy League Grand Tour For the second straight year, Marist will face four teams from the Ivy League. The Red Foxes have defeated Dartmouth and Brown, and will still play Harvard (road, Dec. 18) and Yale (road, Dec. 22). The Dec. 22 contest will mark the first meeting between the Red Foxes and the Bulldogs. The Nov. 22 game was the first time Marist had played Dartmouth since Marist defeated both Harvard and Brown at home last year. The Red Foxes have won eight straight against Ivy League schools, a streak that covers the last two seasons. Days of the Red Foxes Lives The Dartmouth game marked the first time the Red Foxes have played a game on a Wednesday since Jan. 5, On that night, Alisa Kresge hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds to give Marist a win at Lehigh. Marist does not have a regular-season game scheduled on a Thursday this season. 8 Red Foxes Make History vs. Fordham Marist s victory over Fordham on Nov. 26 will go down in program annals for a variety of reasons: * The Red Foxes scored a school-record 55 points in the first half as they rolled to a 39-point lead at the intermission. The previous Marist record for points scored in a first half was 53, which the Red Foxes achieved in a victory over Columbia on Jan. 5, The last time Marist had scored 50 in a first half was on Dec. 5, 2003, when the Red Foxes tallied 51 against Canisius in a win. * The aforementioned victory over Columbia was the last time Marist won a game by at least 50 points, meaning this was the largest margin of victory the Red Foxes enjoyed in Brian Giorgis five years as head coach. The previous largest margin of victory under Giorgis was 36, which was set in Marist s previous game, a win over Dartmouth on Nov. 22. * The Red Foxes shot 56.3 percent for the game, hitting 36 of their 64 attempts from the field. That was the highest field-goal percentage Marist had in any game under Brian Giorgis, and it was the team s highest in any game since Jan. 8, 2002, when the Red Foxes shot 57.4 percent in a triumph at Fairfield. * Eight different Red Foxes hit three-pointers against Dartmouth. Shannon Minter led the way with three, followed by Julianne Viani with two, while Sarah Smrdel, Meg Dahlman, Alisa Kresge, Brittany Engle, Nikki Flores and Lynzee Johnson hit one apiece. It was the first time since Brian Giorgis became head coach that the Red Foxes had eight different players drain a three-pointer in a game. * Twelve different Red Foxes -- Rachele Fitz (18), Meg Dahlman (11), Shannon Minter (11), Sarah Smrdel (9), Julianne Viani (8), Alexis Waters (6), Brittany Engle (5), Nikki Flores (5), Lynzee Johnson (5), Mary Alice Duff (4), Alisa Kresge (3) and Kristin Hein (3) -- scored against Fordham. It marked the first time the Red Foxes had a dozen players score in a game since Jan. 27, 2006, when Marist downed Rider * The Marist bench accounted for 51 points in the game. It was the most the Marist reserves had combined for since they tallied 55 in the victory over Columbia on Jan. 5, * In all, six Red Foxes either tied or set their season or career highs in scoring -- Fitz, Johnson and Duff set career highs, Minter and Waters tied their career highs and Viani established a season high. Due to injuries, Fordham dressed just six players. GoRedFoxes.com -- The Official Web Site of Marist Athletics

Making History The Nov. 10 opener marked the earliest date the Red Foxes have ever opened a season. The previous record did not even last a year, as last year s squad which started its campaign in the Preseason WNIT at the University of Connecticut on Nov. 12. The Red Foxes victory over Stony Brook in the opener improved their record in season openers to 6-20 and snapped a four-year losing streak. Hot Shooting Marist shot 50.9% in the field against Stony Brook, including a total of 53.8% in the second half. The Red Foxes also hit 20 out of 27 free throws (74.1%), including 16 of 19 in the second half (84.1%). The last time Marist lost a game when shooting over 50% in a game came on Feb. 5, 2001, a home loss to Loyola. The Red Foxes have won eight straight since then when hitting more than half their field goals in a game. A Win Is Still a Win The Red Foxes started their season 1-0 despite unusually high numbers of turnovers and points allowed compared to their usual standards. Marist had 20 turnovers against Stony Brook. The Red Foxes turned the ball over 20 times or more in a game on just three occasions last year: the MAAC Championship game vs. Loyola (20), a Feb. 3 game at Siena (20) and vs. Idaho on Nov. 26 (22). Ironically, the Red Foxes won all three of those contests. The Red Foxes also allowed 72 points against Stony Brook. Marist allowed more than 70 points just three times last year, and lost all three games. The last time Marist had won a game when allowing more than 70 was the 2004 MAAC Championship game -- a win vs. Canisius which sent the program to its first NCAA Tournament. This Year s Captains Senior point guard Alisa Kresge and red-shirt junior center Meg Dahlman were selected as co-captains of this year s squad. This year marks the first time in Head Coach Brian Giorgis five-year reign that a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School is not one of the team s captains. Giorgis coached girls basketball at Lourdes for 19 years prior to coming to Marist. Since Giorgis came to Marist, four of his former Lourdes players have played for him as Red Foxes: Maureen Magarity, Kristin Keller, Kristen Vilardi and Julianne Viani. Viani is the only Lourdes graduate on the squad. Here is a list of captains in Giorgis time at Marist: : Maureen Magarity^ : Maureen Magarity^ : Kristin Keller^ : Fifi Camara, Erin Leger, Kristen Vilardi^ : Meg Dahlman, Alisa Kresge ^ -- Played for Giorgis at Lourdes. Night of Bests... Junior forward Sarah Smrdel set a career high with 24 points in Marist s season-opening victory over Stony Brook on Nov. 10 at the McCann Center. Smrdel also set career highs in field goals made (10) and field goals attempted (17). She tied her career high with two blocked shots and hit the second three-pointer of her career. Her seven rebounds led the Red Foxes. With red-shirt sophomore guard Julianne Viani sidelined, junior guard Nikki Flores stepped into the starting lineup and logged a career-high 33 minutes. Flores finished with 11 points. Junior guard Courtney Kolesar made and attempted six free throws after attempting a total of five in her first two years as a Red Fox. Additionally, Kolesar played a career-high 21 minutes. Ironically, Kolesar s previous high of 20 minutes came on Feb. 3, 2006 at Siena -- the only game last year in which Viani did not play and was replaced in the starting lineup by Flores. The 82 points Marist scored tied the Red Foxes high from last season. That total came in the last game the team had played at the McCann Center -- an victory over Fairfield on Feb. 23. Prior to the game, Marist honored the team which won the most games in program history. The members of the team, which won 23 games, received their championship rings and saw the MAAC regular-season championship and NCAA Tournament banners raised. And Night of Firsts... Freshman forward Rachele Fitz impressed in her collegiate debut against Stony Brook in the season opener on Nov. 10. Fitz scored 17 points and pulled down six rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench. She also did not miss a shot, going 6-for-6 from the field and 5-for-5 from the line. Fitz s 17 points were the most scored by a Marist player in her first game since Jean-Marie Lesko scored 20 against Kentucky on Nov. 26, Lesko went on to score 1,092 points in her career, which is tied for 10th on Marist s all-time scoring list. Fellow freshmen Lynzee Johnson and Brittany Engle also made their debuts against the Seawolves. Johnson scored her first two collegiate points on her only field-goal attempt of the game. She also had a rebound and an assist in eight minutes of action. Engle logged five minutes on the night. It wasn t just the newcomers who accomplished firsts in the season opener. Junior Alexis Waters made the first start of her career at the three, scoring four points in 16 minutes. Classmate Courtney Kolesar also hit the first two-pointer of her career in the game. In her two prior seasons as a Red Fox, all of Kolesar s 24 field goals were three-pointers. For Head Coach Brian Giorgis, the victory was his first in a season opener in his five years with the Red Foxes. It was also the first time Marist opened the season at home under Giorgis. 2004, 2006 MAAC Tournament Champions 9

Marist Picked Second Marist was picked to finish second in this year s MAAC preseason coaches poll. The Red Foxes earned 90 points, including three first-place votes. Iona, which finished overall and tied for third in the MAAC at 13-5 last season, was picked to capture the crown this year. The Gaels received 94 total points and five first-place votes from the league s coaches. Although Marist has won at least a share of the MAAC regular-season title each of the last three seasons, the team has never been picked first in the preseason poll. The Red Foxes were picked seventh in the season, the first year the team advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Marist followed that up by being picked third for the season, second last year and now second again this season. Dahlman, Kresge Lauded Red-shirt junior center Meg Dahlman was named a preseason First Team All-MAAC selection, following a season in which she earned First Team All-MAAC honors and was named MAAC Tournament MVP. Last year, Dahlman ranked in the top five of the MAAC in three statistical categories -- scoring (third), blocked shots (third) and field-goal percentage (fifth). Senior point guard Alisa Kresge was a preseason Third Team All-MAAC selection. In her junior season, Kresge led the MAAC in assists and was named the conference s Defensive Player of the Year. She was also a Third Team All-MAAC selection. Kresge also was MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. Red/White Report Freshman forward Rachele Fitz finished with gamehighs of 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the White team to a victory over the Red squad in the annual Red/White scrimmage on Oct. 22. Fitz shot 9-for-16 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line. She hit her only three-point attempt and added two assists and three steals. Helping the cause for the White team was red-shirt sophomore guard Julianne Viani, who finished with 15 points along with six assists and three steals. Junior guard Alexis Waters added 14 points, four rebounds and a game-high three blocked shots for the White team. For the Red team, junior forward Sarah Smrdel scored a team-high 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Smrdel also contributed six rebounds and two blocks. Freshman forward Lynzee Johnson had a solid all-around effort with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Freshman guard Brittany Engle totaled 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, while junior guard Nikki Flores also scored 10. The teams combined to drain 17 three-pointers. Viani and junior guard Courtney Kolesar of the Red team tied for the game high by hitting three apiece. In all, 10 different players hit at least one three. Who s Back? The Red Foxes return 10 of last year s 13 letterwinners. Here are the percentages of returning production in several statistical categories: * 65.4% of the team s scoring. * 68.4% of the team s rebounds. * 78.0% of the team s assists. * 63.8% of the team s blocked shots. * 69.9% of the team s steals. * 64.1% of the team s made field goals. * 65.9% of the team s attempted field goals. * A shooting percentage of.397. * 75.7% of the team s made three-pointers. * 74.7% of the team s attempted three-pointers. * A three-point percentage of.349. * 65.2% of the team s made free throws. * 63.6% of the team s attempted free throws. * A free-throw percentage of.691. * 69.5% of the team s minutes played. Who Departed? Fifi Camara, who spent two highly productive seasons with Marist, has graduated. Camara was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season, the first Red Fox to ever earn that honor. In the campaign, she was named First Team All-MAAC and earned MAAC All-Tournament Team honors. Camara led Marist in scoring and rebounding last year, averaging 16.3 and 7.8, respectively. She ranks first alltime on the Red Foxes career points per game (15.9) and rebounds per game (8.6) lists, collecting 938 points and 506 rebounds in her two seasons. Currently, Camara is playing professional basketball in Spain. Kristen Vilardi has also graduated after playing the last eight years under the direction of Head Coach Brian Giorgis -- four at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, and four for the Red Foxes. Vilardi finished her career tied for first place on the program s all-time games played list -- with former high school and college teammate Kristin Keller -- at 117. Danielle McCray, a 5-foot-11 forward who spent last season with the Red Foxes, left the program. In 23 games, McCray scored 13 points and collected 26 rebounds. Who s New? Freshman forward Rachele Fitz comes to Marist from Seven Hills, Ohio. In her scholastic career at Trinity High School, Fitz totaled over 2,000 points and 1,400 rebounds. Fitz should see considerable time at the four. Freshman Lynzee Johnson will also have an immediate opportunity to compete for time in the Marist frontcourt. The Xenia, Ohio native stands 5-foot-10 and has good instincts and intelligence in the post. Brittany Engle is a freshman guard from South Easton, Mass., who stands 5-foot-9. Engle led Oliver Ames High School to a state championship last year, and will contend for time at all the backcourt positions. 10 GoRedFoxes.com -- The Official Web Site of Marist Athletics
