At A Glance The Bonnies will look to rebound from their home opening, 56-52, loss to Marist on Saturday. St. Bonaventure continued to struggle shooting the ball, connecting on just 36% (21-58) from the field and 44% (8-18) from the free throw line. The Bonnies defeated the Purple Eagles in last year's matchup at the Reilly Center, Last Time Out: Marist tops Bonnies in home opener The Bonnies dropped their home opener to Marist on Saturday, Marist mounted a 17-6 run over the last 6:23 to help the Red Foxes escape the Reilly Center with the win. The Bonnies held a lead as large as seven, but were unable to hold on for the victory. Senior forward Tory Vyborny led all scorers with a career-high 20 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Junior Olecia Miller grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while freshman Priscilla Edwards was the only other Bonnie to reach double figures with 10 points. Double Down In the Bonnies' win against Canisius, senior Tory Vyborny and sophomore Audrey Latendresse became the first Bonnie tandem since Jade Humble and Gellaine Clark in 2001 to each record a double-double in the same game. Vyborny accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Latendresse posted 15 points and 13 rebounds. Frontline Force Coming into the season, St. Bonaventure opponents knew that the Bonnies had a bonafide scorer in Stefanie Collins, but what they didn't know was how good the Bonnies' frontline players were. As a group, senior Tory Vyborny, junior Olecia Miller and sophomore Audrey Latendresse have accounted for 53% (36 per game) of the team's points and 50% (24 per game) of the rebounds. 3 NIAGARA NOTES (PAGE 3) Bonnies Picked Sixth In Preseason Poll In a poll conducted by Atlantic 10 head coaches and media, St. Bonaventure was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 East. Last year's Atlantic 10 Champion Temple was predicted to win the East, followed by Saint Joseph s, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Fordham. Richmond was chosen to win the Atlantic 10 West crown. Eight Fresh Faces The Bonnies, who finished last season with a 9-19 overall record and 4-12 in Atlantic 10 play, have eight new faces on this year's roster: juniors Latrice Hood, Olecia Miller and freshmen Ashley Edwards, Priscilla Edwards, Megan Ellis, Maripier Malo, Mandi Pierce and Iben Soltau. Oh Captain, My Captain With so many new faces on this year's team, the Bonnies will turn to their three co-captains for leadership. Senior Caitlin Crist and Tory Vyborny bring over 160 games of collegiate experience to the lineup and junior Stefanie Collins is coming off a solid year in which she was named to the All-Conference Team. Early Season Awards Junior Stefanie Collins and sophomore Audrey Latendresse were each named to the St. Bona Shootout All-Tournament Team this past weekend. In the team's win against Canisius, Collins poured in a game high 25 points, while Latendresse recorded her first career double-double, registering 15 points and 13 rebounds. Window Cleaners With an undersized lineup, the Bonnies have used hustle and quickness to gather a team average of 46.7 rebounds per game. Junior Caitlin Crist leads the Bonnies with 9.0 rebounds per game, followed by senior Tory Vyborny (8.7), junior Olecia Miller (8.0) and sophomore Audrey Latendresse (7.0). Getting to the Line Through just two games this season, the Bonnies have shot 26 more free throws than their opponents. Even better, they've made as many free throws as the other teams have even attempted. St. Bonaventure has made (.729) free throws through the first three games. Junior Olecia Miller shot 15 free throws against Canisius, a game in which the Bonnies sank shots from the charity stripe. Preseason All-Conference Junior guard Stefanie Collins was named to the second team preseason All- Conference. Collins, who earned a spot on last season s All-Conference second team, led the Bonnies in scoring (16.0 ppg). She also ranked fifth in the A-10 in the same category. Collins topped the A- 10 and finished third in the country in three-point percentage (46.6 percent). She also ranked second in the conference and 11 th nationally in three-point field goals per game, averaging 2.9 per contest. Collins holds the fourth-best program mark for three-pointers in a season with 75. The 5-foot-6 Collins topped the Bonnies in steals (37) and assists (46). She led the team in scoring 16 times last season, including a careerhigh 36 points against Stony Brook. Bonnies Versus the MAAC Coming into this afternoon's game, St. Bonaventure has a record of against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents. In the last meeting against a MAAC League team, November 27, 2004, St. Bonaventure was defeated by Marist The Bonnies will face fellow MAAC League member Siena later this season. Oh Canada The Bonnies have three players from Canada on their roster: junior Olecia Miller, sophomore Audrey Latendresse and freshman Maripier Malo. Only four NCAA Division I women's basketball teams have more Canadian players. Edwards Out For Season Freshman forward Ashley Edwards suffered a season ending shoulder injury during preseason practice. She has undergone surgery and is expected to return to full health in time for the season. Taking Aim Junior Stefanie Collins is just 13 threepointers shy of moving into third place and 16 short of second on St. Bonaventure's career three-pointers made list. Collins is also 12 points away from placing herself in the top 20 on the career scoring list. Collins Named to Preseason All-Big 4 Junior guard Stefanie Collins earned preseason All-Big 4 honors by The Buffalo News. Collins is joined by Canisius' Becky Zak and Cheri Wittlieb; Niagara's Eva Cunningham; and University at Buffalo's Allison Bennett. Bonnies Ink Two NLIs The Bonnies signed guard Katelyn Murray (Harrisburg, Pa.) and forward Erica Schiefen (Elmira Heights, N.Y.) to National Letters of Intent in the fall signing period. As a junior, the 5-foot-9 Murray averaged 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game for Trinity High School. Murray was named to the Mid-Penn Conference All-Star Team, All-Sentinel First Team and the Harrisburg Patriot News Big 15 Team last season. Murray also is a member of the National Honor Society and has a 4.0 grade point average. The 6-foot Schiefen averaged 19.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game last season. She helped lead Thomas A. Edison to a 13-5 overall record and a 9-1 record in league play. She was selected as the Twin Tier Player of the Year and was also named to the Class C All-State Team. She also ranks at the top of her class with a 99.3 GPA. The Bonnies will lose forward Tory Vyborny and guard Caitlin Crist to graduation this spring. Hittin' the Books For the second consecutive year, the Bonnies earned a place on the 2004 Women s Basketball Coaches of America Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for Division I schools. The award cited the Bonnies for the nation s 16th highest team grade point average (GPA) for the season. St. Bonaventure posted a GPA, based on 4.0 scale, for the academic year. St. Bonaventure had eight players named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 Commissioner s Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes with cumulative GPAs over 3.0: Megan Cable, Caitlin Crist, Emma Haywood, Jade Humble, Audrey Latendresse, Becky Valenti and Tory Vyborny. Stefanie Collins, a physical education major, was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team.

4 NIAGARA NOTES (PAGE 4) Huston Joins Bonnies Staff The Bonnies not only have a lot of new faces on the court, they also have one on the bench this season with the hiring of assistant coach Beth Huston. A native of Port Washington, Wisc., Huston is a 2004 graduate of Illinois State University, where she enjoyed a four-year playing career. Last year as a senior, she appeared in every game and averaged 2.4 points per game for the Redbirds. Huston played in 79 games over her college career. Huston graduated with honors and earned a bachelor s degree in public relations with a minor in psychology. She was an honor roll student for eight consecutive semesters. Huston also served as president of the Illinois State Student-Athlete Advisory Council in and was chosen to participate in the ISU senior student leader forum. She is an active volunteer who has served in programs like State Farm s Just Read, Disadvantage Christmas and Home Sweet Home. Last summer, Huston organized and coached a basketball camp for elementary school girls at Cedarburg (Wisc.) High School. She also has been an instructor at numerous girls basketball camps around the nation.
