DEFENSIVE LOCKDOWN: Junior guard Zach Urbanus set a career-high for most consecutive 20-point contests, scoring 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, to lead The Citadel to victory over Georgia Southern. Teammate Cameron Wells, who faced constant defensive pressure throughout the afternoon, tallied 14 points. Austin Dahn rounded out double-digit scorers with 10 points. The Bulldogs defense forced 20 Eagle turnovers and limited GSU to 13 made field goals. The victory improves their record to 6-4 overall, 1-1 in Southern Conference play. Urbanus, who scored 23 points respectively against Davidson and Central Connecticut State, led all scorers by virtue of hitting 5-for-7 from 3-point range. He was joined by Cosmo Morabbi (2-4), Wells (1-2) and Dahn (2-5) to combine for 10-of-22 shooting (45.5%) from beyond the arc. Bryan Streeter, who was not in the starting lineup, provided a force in the paint with six points and a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs. The Citadel converted 22-of-55 attempts (40%) from the field and added 14-of-22 from the free-throw line (63.6%). As for Georgia Southern, who in the midst of a three-game losing streak to the Bulldogs, they were led by Ben Drayton and Willie Powers with 10 points apiece. Johntavious Rucker added eight point on 4-of-6 shooting, leading the Eagles with highest number of made baskets. Tyler Troupe grabbed nine boards, six on the defensive glass, to lead both squads. Urbanus sparked the Bulldogs lineup midway through the first half of play when he converted a pass from Cameron Wells at the 11:35 mark to close the deficit to 11-9 in favor of GSU. From there the Bulldogs would finish out the half on a 24-9 run behind 12 points from Urbanus. The Citadel held a edge at the break. The second half of action was much of the same as the Bulldogs outscored Georgia Southern 20-5 over a 6:43 span that was capped off by a Morabbi 3-pointer. With 6:21 remaining the contest, and Wells at the line, the junior point guard stretched the advantage to 30, 64-34, marking a game-high. INSIDE THE TOP 20: Cameron Wells extended his streak of double-digit scoring games to 14 straight, which dates back to a meeting with Wofford (2/28/09), and in the process moved into 18th place on The Citadel all-time scoring list. His 14-point outing against Georgia Southern moved him past Alan Puckett (1,112) and Craig Bardo (1,119). Cameron, who entered the season with 946 career points in 63 contests, has scored 174 points this to this point. Here is a brief look at the company Wells is keeping among leading scorers in

By virtue of connecting on 148-of- 335 attempts, Urbanus trails only Leon Bryant (46.3%) in 3-Point FG Percentage Leaders. Along with teammate Austin Dahn, who sits in eighth for his career, the tandem is making their way up the list of prolific outside shooters. Urbanus hit his stride of late, connecting on 35 three-point attempts this season, 30 have come over the course of the last eight contests. Urbanus is locked in a zone in which he has hit 44.1% (30-68) during that span. As for Dahn, who has knocked down seven from beyond the arc, the Hispanic College Fund Challenge was his breakthrough. Morabbi has logged 81 minutes, including 33 against Davidson on Thursday, over the course of the last three games including one start. Against CCSU he finished with 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and 12 points, both tying career bests. Morabbi burned the Eagles defense for a six points beyond the arc. Clark, who moved into the starting lineup, pulled down four rebounds in 16 minutes against Georgia Southern. In 29 minutes of play against CCSU he scored five points, on 2-of-4 shooting from the field, along with six boards (five offensive). He followed that performance with seven boards (six defensive) in the Southern Conference opener against Davidson. MVP PERFORMANCE: Guard Cameron Wells took away MVP honors in the CollegeInsider. com Skip Prosser Invitational over the weekend. Teammates Joe Wolfinger and Zach Urbanus joined Wells on the All-Tournament team. Wells completed the two-day event by scoring 24 points on 15-of-32 FGs (46.9%), 4-4 from the charity stripe, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and seven steals. Urbanus streaked to a 9-for-22 (40.9%) shooting performance, including 8-18 from beyond the arc. He managed 28 points and eight boards against UVA-Wise and Central Connecticut State. As for Wolfinger, a cog in the paint for the Bulldogs, the graduate senior notched 23 points with 7-for-14 (50%) outing, knocked down 8-of-12 free throws (66.7%) and grabbed 11 rebounds. TWO GARNER ALL-TOURNAMENT AWARDS: Bulldogs guard Cameron Wells and center Joe Wolfinger were named to the Hispanic College Fund Challenge All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the three-day even on Sunday. Wolfinger finished 17-for-26 from the

4 field, including 9-of-12 from the 3-point line, and anchored the paint for The Citadel with 22 boards. He totaled 49 points and led the team with 18 points in the loss to Missouri State. Meanwhile, Wells scored 50 points and dished out 17 assists, moving into The Citadel lists of all-time 1,000 point scorers. Wells shined in a victory over Eastern Michigan, hitting 7-of- 18 shots and 10-for-12 from the charity stripe en route to 24 points. WELLS DRAWS ACCOLADES FROM THREE: The Citadel s Cameron Wells was named to the CollegeInsider.com Preseason Mid-Major All-America team, marking the third such honor in that was bestowed on the junior point guard. Wells finished ranked among the top two of eight Bulldogs statistical categories (first-steals, assists, FGM, FGA; second-points, minutes, points per game, defensive rebounds). His other honors include The Sporting News Preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year and Southern Conference Coaches Preseason All-Conference. Wells will be relied on heavily from an offensive standpoint after he notched double-figure performances in 30 of 32 games last season. DEFENSIVE CLAMPS: The Bulldogs have limited their opposition to under 48 points on three occasions this season. Ed Conroy s team joins elite company, among seven other Citadel teams, to repeat the feat on multiple occasions during one season. Raymar Morgan was a notable exception for Michigan State with 19 points and 11 rebounds, both season highs. He was 7 of 11 from the field and 5 of 5 at the free throw line in his third straight strong performance after going scoreless last Friday in a loss to Florida. The balanced Spartans (6-2) got 13 points from Kalin Lucas, 12 from Draymond Green and 11 from Chris Allen in shooting 54.5 percent from the field. Noah Dahlman led the Terriers (4-5) with 19 points. He was 8 of 13 from the field and 3 of 5 from the line. And he got the better of his brother, Isaiah, who started and scored two points for Michigan State. Isaiah went to an old phrase to describe his feelings. After a win at Georgia, narrow losses at Pittsburgh and Bradley and a respectable showing at Illinois, Wofford should have had the Spartans attention. But Michigan State trailed 9-4 before a 12-2 run, then led at halftime. Leading 43-41, the Spartans finally pulled away with a 12-3 spurt. Michigan State bounced back from an loss at No. 10 North Carolina on Tuesday but had 19 turnovers and wasn t sharp for much of the game despite huge statistical edges. The Spartans held the Terriers to 36.5 percent shooting from the field and had a edge in rebounds. Green, Delvon Roe and Durrell Summers all had six rebounds, two more than anyone for Wofford. Lucas had nine assists for Michigan State, a much larger team than the Terriers, who enjoyed a 10-1 edge in steals. The Spartans shot 40 percent from 3-point range, a major improvement from their 2-of- 20 effort in the Big Ten/ACC matchup at North Carolina. Izzo would if his team plays the way it did in its 44th consecutive nonconference home win. (Dec.1) National Championship Rematch: Ed Davis scored a career-high 22 points Tuesday night to help No. 10 North Carolina beat No. 9 Michigan State in a rematch of last season s national championship game won by the Tar Heels. Raymar Morgan scored 18 points to lead the Spartans, who shot 43 percent but were 2 of 20 from 3-point range. Kalin Lucas added 15 points and helped the Spartans get as close as six points late before the Tar Heels hit enough free throws to hold on. The teams met twice last season at Detroit s Ford Field, with North Carolina beating

Then came the win in April for the program s fifth NCAA championship, a game in which North Carolina led by 24 points in the first half. It was a performance that put a damper on the Spartans thrilling tournament run that had galvanized the economically battered state of Michigan. Coach Tom Izzo had said he didn t plan to use last season as motivation, though some of his players admitted they were eager for another shot at the Tar Heels. And as if the Spartans needed any reminders of what happened in April, the blue-clad students near the home bench greeted them for pregame warmups with chants of Banner! Banner! while pointing to the one hanging in the Smith Center rafters to commemorate last season s title. That forced the Spartans back into a familiar role: trying to claw back against the Tar Heels in a game that had gotten away from them. This time, at least, the Spartans made it interesting, inching back and getting as close as six points five times in the final 2 minutes. (Nov. 28) Izzo Sets School Record In Wins: Tom Izzo won his 341st game at Michigan State, setting the school record for victories in the No. 2 Spartans win over Massachusetts on Saturday night in the Legends Classic. Izzo set the record the same week mentor and predecessor Jud Heathcote was inducted into the National Collegiate Hall of Fame. For years, it was Izzo who sat by Heathcote s side as an assistant and associate head coach. When Heathcote retired, Izzo was his handpicked successor. Izzo had already matched him with one national championship apiece. He now stands alone atop the Spartans win list with a record in his 15th season. Chris Allen led the Spartans (5-1) with 18 points. Izzo made the hundreds of green-clad fans who made the trip to the Jersey shore wait a day for history after the Spartans were upset by Florida on Friday night. They returned for a glimpse of school history in the consolation game of the tournament, where Florida played Rutgers in the championship game. Like so many of Michigan State s games against weak non-conference teams, this outcome was never in doubt. The Spartans used a 30-3 run in the first half to turn this slice of school history into a lopsided one. Raymar Morgan scored 17 points, Kalin Lucas had 16 and Korie Lucious 13. Spartan fans held printed 341 cards and chanted Izzo s name in the waning moments, and stood and applauded him once the final horn sounded. Izzo has led the Spartans to five Final Fours since 1999 and lost the national championship game last season to North Carolina.

8 Izzo, Lucas and the Spartans are motivated to get there again and win the program s third national title. Heathcote won the championship with Magic Johnson in 1979, and Izzo won his title in The Spartans were stunned by the Gators a night earlier in large part because they missed eight of 10 3-point attempts. The Minutemen (2-4) had a flicker of success early with an 8-2 lead, then watched it evaporate into a hole once the Spartans regained their long-range touch. Lucas hit a pair of 3s that tied the score, Lucious and Morgan connected during the run, and even when they went inside the arc, the Spartans still got three. Roe made the most of a shaky pass and errant landing when he was fouled on a layup and converted the three-point play for a lead. Lucious hit three 3s in the first half, and the Spartans went 8 for 15 on 3s to take a lead into the break. Anthony Gurley scored 24 points and Ricky Harris had 15 for UMass. (Nov. 22) Spartans Down Valparaiso: Long before Jud Heathcote left Michigan State in 1995, he made sure veteran assistant Tom Izzo was hired as his successor. Izzo and Heathcote now are tied atop the Michigan State record book with 340 victories after the No. 2 Spartans win over Valparaiso on Sunday. It ll give the old friends something to discuss Sunday night, when Heathcote was to be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in Kansas City. Izzo was catching a plane and headed for the ceremonies shortly after his Spartans (4-0) beat the Crusaders (1-3). Chris Allen scored 22 points to lead Michigan State and Kalin Lucas added 15. Brandon Wood had 24 points for Valparaiso. The game was a regional matchup in the Legends Classic. The Spartans head to Atlantic City, N.J., for a game Friday against Florida in the tournament semifinals. Valparaiso coach Homer Drew said it was the Crusaders misfortune to run into the Spartans after Izzo was angry at his team for what he considered a lackluster effort in a victory over Toledo earlier this week. The Spartans won their 43rd straight home game against nonconference opponents, extending a streak that started after a loss to Duke on Dec. 3, Izzo, in his 15th season at Michigan State, has a record highlighted by the 2000 national championship. He was an assistant to Heathcote before taking over the program. Izzo s teams are 38-0 at home in November. Michigan State outran and outjumped a swarming Valparaiso zone during a 20-4 firsthalf run that gave the Spartans at 25-9 lead. The Spartans led by as many as 24 points in the first half and were ahead at the break. Allen had 11 points in the first half. Valparaiso got within 15 points early in the second half, but never seriously threatened Michigan State. Valparaiso hasn t shied away from tough competition, having lost a week ago at No. 6 North Carolina, Cory Johnson scored 16 points for the Crusaders, who shot 33 percent from the floor. Delvon Roe had 10 points and 17 rebounds for Michigan State. Raymar Morgan scored nine points for the Spartans after missing the Toledo game because of ankle and foot injuries. Michigan State outrebounded Valparaiso,

10 The Citadel vs. Michigan State (December 17, 2008) Wednesday night s game was a lot different than the previous meeting between The Citadel and Michigan State. Last time, the Bulldogs were unable to get anybody into double-digit scoring. Unlike their previous meeting, three Bulldogs scored in doublefigures in The Citadel s loss to Michigan State in the Breslin Center, where 14,759 people filled the arena. Austin Dahn led the Bulldogs with a season-high 17 points after nailing five 3-point field goals. Bryan Streeter contributed 10 points and four rebounds to give him a season-high in both categories. Cameron Wells collected 14 points, a career-high of five steals and dished a season-high of six assists. The Bulldogs struggled from the field, hitting 23-of-59 shots. The Citadel stayed in the game with their strength from behind the arc, shooting 40 percent. Another hot spot for the Bulldogs was the foul line, where they shot 81.8 percent with Wells shooting a perfect 4-for-4. Michigan State started the game with an 8-0 run with the Bulldogs earning their first basket with 16:15 on the clock after a 3-pointer by Zach Urbanus, which would be the only points on the game for Urbanus. The Spartans continued to run away with the game in the first half, getting ahead by as many as 18. As the end of the first half drew closer, the Bulldogs began to pick up the pace. With 1:13 left in the half, the Spartans were up by 12 after a layup by Goran Suton. The Bulldogs responded with a layup by Streeter, which cut the lead to 10. With the Spartans up, 41-31, the Bulldogs continued to chip away at the lead, getting within eight after back-to-back free throws by Wells and Dahn. The Citadel went into halftime down, Dahn led the Bulldogs at the half with eight points, followed by Wells and Streeter with six, respectively. The Citadel shot 36.4 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from behind the arc in the first half. With a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line, the Bulldogs were outshooting the Spartans from the stripe. Both teams had seven turnovers in the first half. Michigan State was led by Raymar Morgan in the first half with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Spartans shot 57.1 percent from the field, and outrebounded the Bulldogs, 20-16, in the half. Michigan State scored the first basket out of the break with a jumper by Morgan. Wells responded back to cut the lead back down to eight. The second half was a much better half for the Bulldogs, who managed to keep the game within reach for most of the half.
