This is the second of four regular season meetings between the Central Division foes. The Cavs enter tonight s contest on a three-game winning streak for the second time this season (12/7-12/13). Offensively, the Cavs are averaging points per game over the past five games. In the last three games, the Cavs are shooting a combined.500 (28-56) from the three-point line. Cleveland defeated Sacramento last night at The Q where they dished out a season-high 30 assists on 41 made field goals. The last time the Cavs had 30 assists was Feb. 6, 2013 against Charlotte (33 assists). In last night s win, the Cavs held a advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded the Kings Cleveland also had 15 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second chance points. Among Eastern Conference teams, the Cavs rank 2 nd in offensive rebounds per game at 12.6 (4 th in NBA). Since the 2014 calendar year, the Cavs are pulling down 13.9 offensive rebounds per game (2 nd -most in NBA in 2014) and scoring 15.8 second chance points (3 rd in NBA in 2014). Cleveland s reserves have scored at least 50 points 11 times this season, including three of the last four contests. Over the past four games, the Cavs bench is averaging 52.8 points per game. On the season, the Cavs have the 2 nd -highest scoring bench in the Eastern Conference at 37.5 points per game (5 th in NBA). The last time the Cavs and Pistons squared off on Dec. 23 at The Q, Cleveland received 41 bench points. In the win over Sacramento, the Cavs had two bench players score at least 19 points (Dion Waiters-20, Anthony Bennett-19) for the first time since March 16, 2003 when Jumaine Jones (23) and Chris Mihm (19) were the subs for the Cavs that night versus Utah. Dion Waiters, who will be playing for Team Hill in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge in New Orleans on Friday, is leading the Cavs bench with an Eastern Conference-best 14.7 points per game as a reserve (3 rd in NBA). His point games as a reserve this season are the 3 rd -highest total in the NBA, behind Nick Young (16) and Jamal Crawford (14). In last night s win, he poured in 20 points and a career-high tying eight assists in 28 minutes. Over the last three games, Waiters is averaging 20.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 33.0 minutes. Tristan Thompson posted his team-leading 23rd double-double of the season (3 rd -most in East) with 16 points on 5-10 (.500) shooting, a game-high 13 rebounds (six offensive) and two steals in 30 minutes in the win over Sacramento. Coming into tonight s contest, Kyrie Irving has topped 20 points in 11 of the last 14 games (since Jan. 15). In the Dec. 23 rd meeting with Detroit, he tallied team highs of 21 points and seven assists in 29 minutes. Irving will start in Sunday s NBA All-Star Game for the Eastern Conference and defend his Three-Point Contest title on Saturday in New Orleans. He hit 3-6 from beyond the arc in last night s victory. Luol Deng posted his fifth 20-point performance as a Cavalier after finishing with a game-high 22 points on 9-17 (.529) shooting, including 4-5 (.800) from deep in 33 minutes against the Kings. Last night, Anthony Bennett recorded his 1 st career double-double with a career-high 19 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting, including 3-3 from the three-point line and a career-high 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. On the season, the Cavs reserves are averaging 37.5 points per game (2 nd in East and 5 th in the NBA) and have outscored the opponent s bench in 37 of 52 contests. His 29.0 points per game average was the highest among all Eastern Conference guards that week and second-highest among all East players. He posted the highest field goal percentage among all players in the conference who had at least a 21.0 points per game average (minimum three games). He was also one of two players in the East to record multiple 30-point games and the only one to record at least 30 points and 10 assists in a sing le game. Irving won the award for the second time of his career (Jan , 2013). JUST LIKE WORLD B. FREE: In the Dec. 10 win over the Knicks, Kyrie Irving posted his third double-double of the season with a game-high 37 points on (.609) shooting, including 4-7 (.571) from three-point range, to go a long with a game-high 11 assists, one steal and one turnover in 36 minutes. He became the first Cavs player since World B. Free on March 29, 1986 (43 points, 11 assists, 0 turnovers) to tally at least 37 points and 11 assists, while hav ing one or fewer turnovers in a single game. Before Irving, the last NBA player to accomplish tha t feat was Kobe Bryant on December 29, 2009 (44 points, 11 assists, one turnover versus Golden State). DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: In an win over the L.A. Clippers on Dec. 7, Cleveland held Los Angeles to (.322) shooting from the field, a seasonlow by a Cavaliers opponent. The last time Cleveland held an opponent to.322 shooting or less was November 18, 2003 which was also against the L.A. Clippers (.319). The only other player in Cavalier s history with a game in which he equaled or exceeded Thompson's totals in each of those categories (since the NBA began tracking block ed shots in ) is Cliff Robinson, who had three such games for Cleveland (two in and one the following season).
