5 4 Club Meetings Rule! 4-Hers are REQUIRED to attend at least four, regular 4-H meetings in a year in order to participate in county and/or state fair. Members are welcome to attend the 4-H meeting of any club throughout the year if you can t make it to your own. Things that do not count as meetings: Friday night dog practices Friday night horse practices FSQA trainings Fair clean up NEW! Decreased 4-H Yearly Fee On behalf of our Extension Council then the yearly 4-H program fee per member is now $15.00 rather than the full $30.00! Extension Council will be taking care of half of every 4-Her s yearly fee. This decreased fee goes into effect beginning September 1st, Be sure to thank a council member for their work and dedication to the 4-H program! 4-H Senior Spotlights! Watch for these Senior 4-Hers in the area newspapers in April! Cali Foglesong from Sand Creek Pioneers Alex Davis from Pleasant Valley Explorers

6 County Fair 2017 July 20-26, 2017 One day has been added to the fair and it begins on Thursday and ends with the livestock sale on Wednesday. The new livestock schedule has been shared via and will be attached to this . Like the fairboard Facebook page here: Our extension office is moving to a NEW location!! On April 17th our new address will be 500 E. Taylor St. Ste. A Creston, IA (the old Nurses on Call building) We are excited about our move to a larger office however, we will need to close our office to the public the week of April to pack and move. County-Wide T-shirt, NEW! Pick them up at the office! All 4-Hers (4 th -12 th graders) will be expected to wear the traditional, green 4-H T-shirt while in the show ring or during static exhibit judging during the county fair Horse exhibitors will continue to follow the dress code as described in the 4-H fair book. The idea of a county-wide 4-H shirt is to showcase ourselves as 4-H with the traditional, green shirt that everyone knows to be 4-H. The shirt can also be worn year after year, passed down to siblings, shared among other 4-Hers in the county and is relatively inexpensive. The cost of the shirt is $7.00. Shirts are available at the extension office for pick up. Clubs are certainly welcome to design their own club t-shirts that can be worn throughout the year, during the county fair while not showing or being judged, at roadside cleanups, etc.

8 Updated Sale Ring Rule 2017 For the 2017 County Fair (July 20-26), the number of times a 4-Her can sell through the sale ring has been updated: A 4-Her can sell through the sale ring 4 total times. Champions and Reserves ARE INCLUDED in that 4 times total through the ring, they are no longer considered freebies through the ring. A Pen of Three counts as 3 times through the ring. A Pen of Three can NO LONGER be considered 1 lot through the ring. A Sale of Champions and Reserves will start the sale, those Champions and Reserves are considered part of your 4 times total through the ring. ***If you choose not to sell your Champion or Reserve then you are welcome to still take your animal through the ring in the Sale of Champions and Reserves for recognition. Sale Order 2017: Sale of Champions and Reserves, Swine, Broilers, Goats, Sheep, Beef Fairboard Update The Union County Fairboard is pleased to announce that we have received a DEKKO pledge of $500,000 towards new buildings on the fairgrounds! DEKKO has offered support in the form of a pledge that is designed to both help us build momentum for our building campaign and complete it successfully. To begin, DEKKO will pay out $1 for each $1 we can secure for our building project, up to a maximum payment of $100,000 from their foundation. If we are successful with that pledge, they will offer a second pledge of $400,000. That pledge will be payable once we have secured the total of $1,545,000 (including Dekko Foundation support) needed to complete our project in full. "4-H's formula of encouraging young people to pursue projects that interest them is so effective," commented Sharon Smith, program director for the DEKKO Foundation. "It helps youth build persistence, responsibility, respect and confidence. For that reason, we are pleased to come alongside Union County to support this opportunity to improve the community's 4-H facilities." ***The fairboard held their kickoff fundraiser event on February 1st at 3 Mile Lodge Please keep in mind as you finalize your Charitable Giving for this tax year that the Union County Fair Association is now a 501(c)(3) organization and is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with the Code section 170. For more information please contact Ben Adamson.
