Sign up to help here: Start: 9 a.m. Register on site The American Cancer Society Bark For Life TM is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer. 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 Pawz n' Clawz Natural Pet Food and Grooming along with TLC Training with Love by Carol are hosting the Pawzitive Outdoor Games. The day will consist of 3 competition events: Dock Diving, Agility and The Fastest Dog in the Northwoods. FOOD STAND EVENTS AN EXCELLENT FUNDRAISER FOR 4-H AND OTHER GREAT CAUSES! Baked goods & volunteer help needed! 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29 Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association is selling food as a fundraiser at the Bark for Life event and Pawzitive Outdoor Games, both happening on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. In the morning from 7:30-8 a.m., the food booth tent will need to be set up. Then from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., help is needed to sell breakfast food while the Bark for Life event is happening. All proceeds from the breakfast sales will go toward the Keep it in the Northwoods 4-H Club. From 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., help is also needed to sell baked goods and other food during the latter half of the Bark for Life event and then the Pawsitivie Outdoor Games that follows. Proceeds from this portion of the fundraiser will support the 4-H Leaders Association, which financially supports all of Oneida County 4-H programming and provides scholarships to youth. Volunteers are needed to donate baked goods to sell (individually wrapped items to sell for $.50/piece, such as bars, cookies, etc.). You can bring these baked goods to the UW-Extension Office (located in the lower level of the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport) anytime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 28. Volunteers are needed to help run the 4-H food booth in 1-2 hour shifts, but help is most needed beforehand to help set up the booth and after the event to take it down. 4 P a ge 4 T h e Clover Patch A u gust 2015 Nature Program: Bats 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 Come and learn how you can help scientists monitor bats in your area! Joel Knutson, a local citizen researcher and active participant with the Wisconsin Bat Project, will be giving a free public program on how to locate and monitor bats where you live and why this is important. His talk will include interesting facts about these animals, as well as actual live monitoring at dusk. Families are welcome to attend! Bring a lawn chair to sit on. For more information, call or anne.williams@ces.uwex.edu. Want to be trained in Skynet? Sept. 14-Oct. 23: Online Workshop Would you like to engage your youth in observing the Universe with professional telescopes? Join a Skynet Junior Scholars Professional Development Workshop. Skynet Junior Scholars is a national youth science program that allows young people to conduct astronomy investigations with world-class telescopes in the U.S., Chile and Australia with a simple internet connection. The program is intended for middle school and older youth. The online workshop lasts 6 weeks and requires about hours of time commitment over that time. Contact Anne Williams, 4-H support staff, at or her at anne.williams@ces.uwex.edu if interested. 4-H Dog Training 10-11:30 a.m. Sundays This group will meet on Sundays at the 4-H dog training arena, located outside the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. Astronomy Night with Telescope Frank Rosendahl, certified 4-H volunteer and Junior SkyNet co-leader, is planning an evening astronomy night in September at Nicolet College. This fun star-gazing event will be open to all. How about an evening cookout and kayaking ahead of the star gazing event? Give the 4-H office at call at or Anne Williams at anne.williams@ces.uwex.edu with ideas. August is last month of 4-H year 4-Hers can re-enroll starting Sept. 3 For instructions on how to re-enroll, go online to: Youth and volunteers are encouraged to re-enroll in 4-H starting Sept. 3, the start of the 4-H/school year. Not only is active enrollment required for all youth (and adult volunteers) participating in county, regional or state 4-H events, active enrollment ensures that you'll get the latest and correct information from 4-H staff. Re-enrollment is a relatively quick process because most of the enrollment information only needs to be reviewed and updated. For more information and user guides, go to If internet access is not available, a paper based re-enrollment option is available by contacting your county Extension staff. Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association will pay: 25% of Art Camp fees for 1st year 4-Hers 50% of Art Camp fees for 2nd year 4-Hers 75% of Art Camp fees for 3rd year+ 4-Hers Wisconsin 4-H Art Camp for youth in grades 6-8 will be held Oct. 3-4 at Camp Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Cost is $75 which includes a camp T-shirt. Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association has scholarships available to make this more affordable! Don t miss 4-H Arts Camp! Where else can you go to one place to learn about music, drama, visual arts, photography and communications! You ll rotate through the different Arts tracks each day, participate in a group Arts experience Saturday evening, and close with a ceremony for parents and families, celebrating the results of your group Arts Camp experiences. You ll also meet new friends, participate in camp games, and enjoy the great natural setting of Upham Woods, a 300-acre environmental education center on the Wisconsin River near Wisconsin Dells. 4-H Arts Camp is sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Extension and is planned and led by a talented group of 4-H high school youth, assisted by UW-Extension specialists, 4-H staff and key adult volunteers. You ll learn lots of creative ideas to take home to share with your family and friends. Space is limited. Fill out the application found on page 7 of this newsletter and turn it into your local 4-H office. HONEY BEE POSTER CONTEST The Wisconsin Honey Producers Association is hosting a Honey Bee Poster Contest. The theme for the contest is Honey Bees Pollinating for Fruit and Nuts. Divisions: 2nd grade and under 3rd-5th grades 6th-8th grades 9th-12th grades Prizes for each division: 1st: $35 2nd: $25 3rd: $15 Rules: Mail by Oct. 25 to: Sharon Pufahl W6432 Hwy O Mauston, WI Ph: Size 11 X14 poster board 2. Print clearly, on back side: Name, address, age and grade 3. Include theme in design 4. Posters become property of WHPA 5. Most bees today live in bee hives. Paper wasps live in nests hanging from a tree branch. Not bees! HELP IS NEEDED! All 4-H families are encouraged to participate in a 4-H bake sale from 8 a.m. to noon at Pioneer Park. Proceeds benefit the Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association, which in turn provides scholarships to youth and helps give financial support local 4-H programming. Bring priced items to the park the morning of the sale or to the 4-H office the day prior. REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 28, 2015 What: Fall Forum and Hall of Fame Celebration When: Nov. 6-8, 2015 (Registration at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and ending 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8) Where: Chula Vista, Wisconsin Dells Who: Each county is encouraged to send a delegation of youth in grades 7-13 and adults volunteers Cost: Lodging: $100 registration fee for youth and for adults (Includes 4 meals, breaks, facility fees and supplies) Market Fresh Buffet will be used for lunch and breakfasts. SCHOLARSHIPS! Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association will pay: 25% of Fall Forum registration fees for 1st year 4-Hers 50% of Fall Forum registration fees for 2nd year 4-Hers 75% of Fall Forum registration fees for 3rd year+ 4-Hers Lynn will chaperone! Adults: $60/night if there are a minimum of two adults ($75 - Single adult room; $35/night with three or more adults per room Youth: $35/night with three four youth per room The program kicks off Friday evening with over 15 interactive sessions. Saturday offers more than 25 workshops to choose from. Top off the night with a special celebration where 10 people will be inducted in to the Wisconsin 4-H Hall of Fame. An evening of circle dancing and table games will follow the celebration. Sunday morning brings a high energy program that you can use at the club or community level. All youth participants need to have a chaperon who has completed Youth Protection identified when they register. 8 P a ge 8 T h e Clover Patch A u gust 2015 June 2015 Leaders Association Minutes Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association Minutes - June 22, 2015 The meeting was called to order by President, Carol Lofquist at 7:10 p.m. The 4-H meeting room was locked, so the meeting was held upstairs in the airport lobby. Pledges were not said as flags were not available. In attendance were: Amy Engel, Katie Kubisiak, Carol Lofquist, Amanda Parish, Mary Puestow and Kathy Winkler. Reports Financial: Checking April May Beginning Balance $ $ Deposits Expenses $ $ H ( ) ( ) WMMB ( ) ( ) Money Market Beginning Balance $ Interest 1.75 Ending Balance $ $ Kathy W. moved and Amanda P. seconded to approve the report. Approved. Secretary: The minutes from April 27, 2015 were read. Mary P. moved to accept the minutes. Amanda P. seconded. Approved. Unfinished Business Platbooks: Carol will check to see if any platbooks have sold at the Chamber. Leader Training: Amanda attended the annual training with Lynn. Family Fishing Fun Day: 132 youth registered. Donations equaled the amount spent on prizes. Good weather helped make it a successful day. Farmer s Market: September 12 is the date for OC 4-H to have a bake sale. First Aid Kits: Kathy donated 5 1 gallon buckets for kits. Carol will bring in wraps and check with the 4-H office on the status of the kits. Pawsitive Outdoor Games: Bark for Life will be set up about 7 a.m. on the SE side of the airport parking lot & be run by the Keep It In The Northwoods club. Katie K. will help the club create its own breakfast menu and the club will keep the profits. Pawsitive Games will set up a food booth at 8 a.m. by the 4-H dog training area. Leaders Assn. members will provide desserts and Amy E. will purchase items needed for the menu. Carol L. will seek donations including beef for sandwiches, water and funds to purchase additional items for sale. Signs for the day will be made by Dan and Carol L. Chicken Testing: Wildlife Park in Minoqua has the serum available for Engels to have chickens for the OC Fair tested. OCF: WMMB will be present with many promotional prizes. Lucy the Two-Nosed Cow will be asked to come and 4-H will donate $50 Dog agility & Animal Alley set up will need to be Sunday, July 26 at noon, not Saturday as listed in the 4-H newsletter Volunteers are needed to be available to monitor the Exhibit Court. Two hour blocks of time are suggested rather than 4. Individuals are encouraged to call the 4-H office to sign up for times. Exhibit Court will open at 10 a.m. and close about 7 p.m. Bear Sanctuary: Ben Kubisiak has made a poster from pictures taken on the field trip and will enter it at the OCF. New Business July 4th Parade: Carol L. will complete the registration form and request it be sent to Shonda King next year. Float construction will take place Sunday, June 28 at the King s from 1-4 p.m. Adjournment Mary P. moved and Katie K. seconded to adjourn.
