The upcoming races are Catalina Half Marathon on 9/29, Long Beach Marathon on 10/7, Surf City Beach Derby 10mi/10K on 10/21, and Catalina Eco Marathon on 11/10. See Meet-Up website and announcement s for details. Snail s Pace won $500 Gift Card to Duke s from participation in Surf City Beach Derby last year. We re planning to have a get together there in October. Official date will be announced. Weekly runs: Track workouts at Fairview park on Tuesdays at 6pm for the next 5 weeks then at OCC Track. The Hash Run was a success! Some minor challenges but everyone had fun. Thanks to Pat Copp for organizing. We will do another one and the date is to be determined. October club meeting and run will be held at the FV Snail s Pace Store. Details on page 3. The Annual Gala will be in January. The theme is Mardi Gras: dress in Mardi Gras Colors. 2 Snail's Pace Spirit Awards For this month, Manny Vinzinho is the recipient. Spirit Pin was awarded to Robert Mignosa. Every club member can win and there is a new winner every month and year-long. Just go to the web site and register. Snail's Pace Spirit Incentive Program To Participate: You must be a current member of Snail s Pace Running Club and have your dues up to date. Regular club members, Racing Team members and Running Academy Graduates are all eligible to participate and win prizes. Login to and create an account and make sure you are located in your Chapter file (Fountain Valley) and the month you need to post your points. Points are accumulated on a monthly basis and all Chapter events should be posted to the month you participated in them. If you forget to enter your points for a particular month you may go back and enter them, but remember Spirit Points are tabulated on a monthly basis at the end of each month. This addition would only be counted for annual points. How to receive points: Showing up at a regularly scheduled club run 10 points Attending the monthly club meeting 20 points Participating in the monthly club race 20 points Additional Points for wearing the Club Uniform at races 10 points Carpooling to races with other participants (two or more people)-10 points Writing a newsletter article (and having it published) 20 points Hosting a club social event 30 points Attending a club social event 10 points Recruiting new members 10 points Volunteering at a local race 10 points Points are awarded for the activities listed above. Prior to each monthly meeting, the previous month s points will be tabulated and the high scorer will receive a $20.00 ASP gift certificate. You can only win the monthly award once a year thus allowing all a chance at winning. How ever your points are added up and at the end of the year those with the most pints will get more chances at the grand prize drawing of a $ ASP gift certificate, a free membership renewal to the running club, and a free entry to any cub race (limits Apply) of their choice for the next year. All points should be entered no later than the 1st of each month to give the Social Chair time to calculate the winner. If you have any questions, please see your Board of Directors for clarification. 2

3 October Club Meeting & Fun Run October monthly club meeting and fun run will be held at: Fountain Valley Snail s Pace Store 8780 Warner Ave, Ste. 12 Fountain Valley, CA Wednesday, October 10, :00PM Fun Run at 6:15PM Club Meeting at approx. 7:00PM Run will be on the greenbelt Burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, side dish, and drinks will be served after the fun run Adidas rep will be there to show new shoes and giveaways Rock and Roll Racing Series rep will be there to promote the upcoming LA and Pasadena half marathons and hand out giveaways Join us for this special club meeting! 3

4 Oktober Mileagefest By Monet De Jesus To report your mileage you can Sue Sternberg at with "Oktober Mileagefest" in the subject line, or physically report during Wednesday Fun Runs. Please do not text your mileage. You must run at least 9 times during the month. Below is a more detailed description of the rules. Everyone is encouraged to participate. However, only verified members of A Snail s Pace Fountain Valley Chapter are eligible for awards and prizes. You may stop by the A Snail s Pace Running Shop to obtain membership, join us during one of Wednesday run with your membership fee anytime during the contest, or sign up via to officially become a Snail. Winners will be announced on November 14, 2012 during our club meeting so be sure not to miss the fun. THE OBJECT OF THE COMPETITION: The object is to run more and have fun. There are awards for the 3 highest miles and all participants reaching 150 miles will get a prize. REPORTS: Mileage only count if you report them one of the ways above. Writing a mileage report in your personal journal does not count as a report for this contest. Report all mileage and total from the last time you reported. A report will be posted on Meetup.com every Monday beginning October 8th and last report will be posted on November 7th. HONOR SYSTEM: Yes, this event is on the honor system. Let your morals be the guide. If you have no morals consider asking someone who has them. MILEAGE NUMBER: You must run at least 1 mile between reports. At the end of October all decimal points will be rounded down or up. NUMBER OF POST RULES: You must run 9 times during the month to be eligible for any prizes. If you report every 3-4 days we will not have any problems. The reason for this rule is that other people need to see your progress. You can submit your last report until November 2, 2011 (last mileage logged is October 31st). POSTING MILEAGE TO SUE: or in person ONLY! When posting mileage, give me your name, total miles you re reporting and the date(s) you ran these miles. For example: Monet De Jesus, 15 Miles Oct. 1 (5 miles), Oct. 2 (7 miles), Oct. 3 (3 miles) MILEAGE: The general rule is that mileage counts if you dress to work out and run or walk wearing a pedometer all day and sending it as part of your mileage DOES NOT COUNT. Running on a treadmill counts but pool running/jogging and elliptical runs do not. No roller blading, bicycling, sailing, driving or any other thing that shouldn't logically count. Hiking, walking, running as a workout counts! DURATION: The contest is from October 1st 12:00am to October 31st midnight. 4
