Scissrs Needle String/Thread (see recmmended, belw) Optinal Tls Ruler Black Thread Tape Size 10 Crchet Thread (recmmended) Tweezers Printing Guidelines: When printing with Adbe Reader, it is imprtant t use prper printing settings fr crrect alignment and scaling. Click the Print Tl buttn. In the Print settings dialg bx, set Page Scaling t Nne, and enable the Aut-Rtate and Center ptin. Unless yu are a prfessinal mdeler, yu shuld print n 8 ½ by 11 (U.S. Letter) sheets, and shuld nt change the recmmended print settings. If yu shuld need t re-print selective mdel parts, yu can use the Snapsht Tl in Adbe Reader. Click the icn nce, then click-drag a bx arund the area that yu want t print. The selected area will flash nce (a snapsht ), and yu re ready t print. In the Print settings dialg bx, yu will see a preview f the dcument. In the preview, nly the snapsht appears and will be printed. This saves yu frm printing the whle page, thus saving ink/tner. Trubleshting Files: If yu feel that the mdel parts are nt printing prperly, yu can use the alignment bx in the lwer-right crner f the mdel part sheets. Hld tw r mre sheets t a light surce, and cmpare bth the psitin and sizes f the alignment bxes. Smetimes PDF files can becme crrupted while dwnlading. This is nt uncmmn, and is n cause fr alarm. Delete the bad files, and try re-dwnlading them. Anther cmmn errr is that yur versin f Adbe Reader is ut-f-date. Please visit the Adbe Web site and dwnlad the latest versin f the sftware. This typically slves 90% f users file prblems. Cnstructin Guidelines Read these instructins and study the illustratins t knw what/where t cut/fld. Befree gluing, always dry-fit the pieces t ensure they fit prperly. Be aware that paper will absrbb misture frm watery glue, and it may expand. When fllwing these instructins, d nt take the illustratins t literally. In many cases, pieces will be simplified (i.e. n tabs). Other times, pieces r entire sectins may be missing that were previusly displayed. This des nt mean yu shuld ever disassemble yur mdel (unless instructed t d s). Mst mdel parts have numbered tabs. Als glue the ple t the tip f the rear wall f the ship. Be sure that it is glued well; thread will be tied t this flag ple, and tensin will build as yu begin t thread the rigging. 61. Glue piece 8X t the ple. Fld and glue piece 8U. If yu want t add waves and curls in the flag, add them while the glue is still wet. When the flag has dried, glue it t the rear f the flag ple. 63. Rll and glue pieces 15A, then glue the wide ends tgether, lining up the seams. Repeat fr pieces 16A, 17A, 18A, 19A, 20A, & 21A. In the end, yu shuld have six shrt ples. Place these aside fr later. 64. Glue pieces 15b & 15C tgether. When dry, use a needle t pke the hles in the sail. Repeat fr pieces 16A & 16B, 17A & 17B, 18A & 18B, 19A & 19B, 20A & 20B, and 21A & 21B. If yu d like t add a slight curve t the sails t imitate billwing, d s while the glue is still wet. If yu chse t d this, DO NOT curve the lateen sail (20A & 20B). 10C 10A 10A 10B 62. An ptinal table has been prvided t add a little decratin t the ship if desired. Fld and glue pieces 10A- 10C t their selves, then assemble as shwn. Tw ptinal maps (10D) have als been prvided. 65. Glue piece 15 t ne f the shrt ples t create the sprit sail. Glue it alng the seam t help keep the sail straight. Repeat the same prcess fr pieces 16, 17, 19, and 21. There shuld be ne shrt ple left. 66. Repeat the previus step with pieces 18 and 20. Glue piece 18 t the medium ple, and glue piece 20 t the lng ple. 67. Cut a lng piece f crchet thread; it s better t have excess than t cme up shrt. 12 Page 12 and cut ff what little excess there is as clse t the knt as pssible. Cver the expsed knt end with a tiny dab f glue and let it dry. This will keep the knt frm cming undne. String the thread thrugh the upper sail hles, wrapping arund the ple. When yu get t the last hle, tie a simple knt as clse t the sail as pssible. Cver the expsed knt end with a tiny dab f glue t prevent the knt frm cming undne. Repeat the prcess fr all f the sails. NOTE: Yu are abut t begin the rigging prtin f the mdel. All lines shuld be pulled taut, but nt s much that they begin t distrt the mdel. Having taut lines will help supprt the masts and keep them frm swaying. Als be careful arund the sails s that yu d nt accidentally snap them ff. It is recmmended that yu read and familiarize yurself with all f the rigging instructins befre yu cntinue. 68. Next, place the tw fre masts pieces n tp f ne anther and temprarily hld it in place. Yu can wrap a small piece f paper arund the brken area. Yu can als place a rd r stick inside. D whatever yu like t hld the mast up as yu wrk n the rigging. 70. Tie thread where indicated in red. All thread pieces shuld be even lengths n bth sides it shuld nt lk lpsided. STEP 76 STEP 72 STEP 74 STEP Glue the mizzen sail, main tp sail, main sail, fre tp sail, fre sail, and the last shrt ple t the frnts f their masts as shwn. 71. Tie thread where indicated in red. 72. Tie thread between the end f the lateen sail and the mizzen mast. 73. The end f the thread that cnnects t the bw f the ship DOES NOT tie t the crner rail pst. Cut ff the excess as clse t the knt as pssible, and put a tiny dab f glue ver the expsed knt t prevent it frm cming undne. Yu may have t temprarily remve the upper prtin f the mast t d this. 75. Tie thread where indicated in blue. The blue lines will g slack later n, s it is nt necessary t make them taut. 76. Cut this line and fray the edges s that the line lks like it snapped when the mast fell. the ship as shwn. Repeat the prcess fr pieces 22C, 23C, & 24C, gluing them t the prt side. 22B 79. Cut ut pieces 22B, 23B, & 24B, then slide the fur stems thrugh pieces 22A, 23A, & 24A. 80. Fld and glue the stems t the side f the ship as shwn. Repeat the last tw steps fr pieces 22D, 23D, & 24D n the prt side. 77. Tie thread where indicated in red and blue. All thread pieces shuld be even lengths n bth sides.
