1 THE BURGEE Halifax Nova Scotia Canada October - November 2005 Photo: Barrie MacLeod Vice-Commodore s Report October - November 2005 My wishes for a nice fall seem to have come true. Unfortunately the time has come to put the boats away for another winter. The season seems so short here in Nova Scotia but hopefully everyone has had a good summer and fall boating. I would like to thank our office staff for looking after the haul out dates and the yard staff for the care they take in hauling and placing our boats in the yard for winter. As the year is winding down I would like to give the Membership Committee a vote of thanks for their great effort in handling the new member applications. Also the many other members who have helped in various ways with the activities of the AYC for this year. It is members who volunteer their talent and time to the Club that make it the great place that it is and gave us a successful Winter storage invoices will be going out shortly and we would ask that the members give them prompt attention in order to have a good cash flow for the remainder of the year. I remind you that the Annual Fall Meeting is on November 2 and our Presentation of Prizes and Commodore's Ball is being held on November 19 and hopefully the membership will be out in full force. Keep an eye on the and website for other upcoming events at AYC. Respectfully, Norman Raine Vice-Commodore AYC AGM Wednesday November 2, 19:00 Hours
2 Committee of Management 2005 FLAG OFFICERS Commodore: Vice Commodore: Rear Commodore: Fleet Captain Sail: Dennis Harding , Norman Raine Betty Ann Haliburton Dan Pride (AYC OFFICE) Fleet Captain Cruise: Dave Hickey Treasurer: Secretary: , OFFICERS Brian Conrad , Paul Patterson THE BURGEE EDITOR: Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and for those who participated in the Harbour Island Classic...Bravo Zulu... It was a grand day for all. The AYC AGM is fast approaching and for those of you who wish to be part of the Committee of Management for 2006, contact Tom Harper and let your intentions be known. The fall weather is now upon us and the DIE HARD RACE (October 22) will most likely be completed by the time this edition gets in the mail. I must confess that I didn t get any racing in this year other than the Harbour Island Classic which I really enjoyed. I hope to participate in the DIE HARD as well. The Yard is already busy with winter preparations and although no one really wants to take their boat out..we all know, that most do and therefore book your haul out as soon as you can. The Commodore s ball is scheduled for November 19, and it should be a good one. Keep those pictures coming I would like to do a year review for the December Burgee. Every Hazardous reef, rock, or obstruction is marked on this chart. Buoys and lights are marked, and dangerous and restricted areas are clearly defined. It is a good idea to purchase your charts early in the season. You will be able to give the proper amount of time to studying them, and just the thought of going cruising will be entertaining. take your charts with you every time you go out in your boat. You can never tell when you will need them. 4

On November 11th we honor their contributions. "Thank You" to all our Veterans. The haul outs have been going very well. Make sure you book your haul out in the Manager's Office. Also, be sure to have all necessary arrangements made prior to haul out ie. boat secured, cradle in order... We are still having problems with the recyclable requirements. On our website in "Around the Yard" section there is a full description of what can and cannot be recycled. The Blue Bin is exclusively for refundable recyclables. Your co-operation is appreciated. All members should be aware of the requirements for winter storage, wet or dry. The use of improper or damaged power cable will not be accepted. Again, your co-operation is required. Over the past several weeks a couple of incidences have occurred which required the Yard Staff to take immediate action. The action taken by the Staff was professional and commendable. "Well done to all". There are some projects coming up that will require the help of volunteers. Keep your eye on the Notice Boards in the Club and on the Marinas, in the Burgee and on the Web. See you on the water, in the Club or "around the yard". Yours, Aye Lloyd Blagdon Yard Chairman 7
