Specificatins are nt intended t reflect all duties perfrmed within the jb and/r department. DEFINITION Fire fighters have the respnsibility f prtecting life and prperty frm the hazards f fire. This prtectin is ffered by applying fire suppressin methds t cntrl and stp prperty damage, by saving lives thrugh rescue frm fire r ther hazardus envirnments, and thrugh safety inspectins, and public fire safety educatin t prevent fires. Fire fighters respnd t emergency calls t prvide efficient and immediate care t the critically ill and injured. This is the jurney level in the class series and serves as the intrductry perid training class fr Fire Fighters. Psitins at this level usually perfrm mst f the duties required at the Fire Fighter level, but have less experience and training. Psitins at the level are nrmally filled by successful perfrmance as a Vlunteer Fire Fighter and cmpletin f apprpriate certificatins. When filled frm the utside, the emplyee is required t have prir related experience which allws the emplyee t meet the qualificatin standards fr the level. I This is the advanced jurney level in the class series. Psitins at this level perfrm the same duties required at the level; hwever, this class requires significantly mre experience and training. Psitins at the Fire Fighter level are nrmally filled by successful perfrmance as a and cmpletin f apprpriate certificatins. II This psitin requires significantly mre frmal training as well as experience. Psitins at the II level are filled by successful perfrmance at a I level. SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED I II These psitins reprt t the Captains. Fire fighters may als exercise technical supervisin f the fire cadets, vlunteer fire fighters and cmmunity service wrkers. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Imprtant and essential duties may include, but are nt limited t, the fllwing: 1. Respnds t his/her assigned statin fr emergency incidents. 2. Selects, drags, lifts and carries hse and nzzle depending n type f fire and crrectly applies a stream f water r chemicals nt fire.

2 3. Psitins and climbs ladders t gain access t upper levels f buildings r t assist individuals frm burning structures. 4. Creates penings in buildings fr ventilatin r entrance using ax, chisel, crwbar, pwer saw, r ther pwer equipment. 5. Prtects prperty frm water and smke by use f psitive pressure ventilatin, waterprf salvage cvers, smke ejectrs, and dedrants. 6. Administers first aid and CPR t injured persns and thse vercme by fire and smke. 7. Cmmunicates with superir fire fficers and fire fighters during fire using prtable tw-way radi. 8. Wears apprpriate prtective clthing and equipment t include self-cntained breathing apparatus (SCBA) depending n ptential hazard expsure. 9. Helps t maintain apparatus and equipment as part f a team under the supervisin f a Captain. 10. Attends regular weekly training sessins and meetings t maintain and upgrade firefighting skills. 11. Actively participates in drills, demnstratins and curses in hydraulics, pump peratin and maintenance, firefighting techniques, and annual SCBA training. 12. Obtain and maintain in gd rder, the fficial department dress unifrm and duty unifrm. 13. T serve n cmmittees as appinted. 14. Other duties as assigned. I In additin t : 1. When victims need extricatin frm entrapment, the fire fighter assesses the extent f injury and gives emergency care and prtectin t the entrapped patient and uses the prescribed techniques and appliances fr remving the victim safely. 2. Ability t perfrm as driver f apparatus. 3. Respnds t emergency incidents that may include hazardus materials and can prperly identify hazardus materials that may be present. II In additin t & II: 1. In the absence f an fficer, assume the duties and respnsibilities f the cmmanding fficer accrding t the chain f cmmand f the Campbell Cunty Fire Department. 2. T cmplete training curriculums as set frth by the Training Chief. 3. T serve n cmmittees as appinted. OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES 1. Learn the peratin f firefighting tls and equipment. Learn the peratin f all hand and pwer tls safely. Learn t perate a mtr vehicle safely at high speeds and in inclement weather. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must be current r btained within a specified time frame as defined upn emplyment. Valid driver s license. Perfrm physically demanding wrk while wearing psitive pressure breathing equipment with resistance t exhalatin and a flw rate specified by current SCBA manufacturer. Perfrm cmplex tasks during life-threatening emergencies. Wrk fr lng perids f time, requiring sustained physical activity and intense cncentratin. Make decisins that culd have life r death cnsequences fr emplyees and civilians under difficult and stressful cnditins with limited infrmatin during emergency cnditins based n Standard Operating Prcedures. Be expsed t grtesque sights and smells assciated with majr trauma and burn victims. Operate in envirnments f high nise, pr visibility, limited mbility, at heights, and in enclsed r cnfined spaces. Use manual and/r pwer tls in the perfrmance f duties. Rely n senses f sight, hearing, smell, and tuch t help determine the nature f the emergency, maintain persnal safety, and make critical decisins in a cnfused, chatic, and ptentially lifethreatening envirnment thrugh-ut the duratin f peratin. Encunter smke filled envirnments, and a variety f physical hazards, damaged structures, mving mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, radiant energy, and pssible expsure t explsives.
