UW has clinched a share of the division crown but can win the West outright and advance to Indianapolis for the third time in four seasons with a victory over the Gophers. If Minnesota can snap UW s 10-game win streak in the series, the Gophers will claim a share of the division and the championship game tiebreaker. KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER Heisman Trophy candidate Melvin Gordon leads the nation in rushing at yards per game after recording his fifth 200-yard effort of the year to lead the Badgers to a win at Iowa last Saturday. Gordon also leads the country in scoring with 27 touchdowns second-most in Big Ten history and in rushing average at 8.3 yards per carry. Gordon is tied with Badgers legend Ron Dayne for the Big Ten s single-season rushing record at 2,109 yards. He became the fastest player in NCAA history to reach 2,000 yards in a season by doing so on his 241st carry a career-long 88-yard breakaway at Iowa. Wisconsin s defense is allowing just yards per game to rank No. 2 in the FBS. The Badgers also rank No. 3 in scoring defense (16.1 ppg), No. 5 in rushing defense (97.1 ypg) and No. 3 in passing defense (162.2 ypg) the only team in the nation to rank in the top five of all four major categories. UW s six-game win streak vs. conference opponents is the third-longest in the nation, trailing only Florida State (21 straight) and Ohio State (7). Including wins to claim the Freedom Trophy (Nebraska) and Heartland Trophy (Iowa) in consecutive weeks, the Badgers have won eight straight trophy games, dating back to Since the start of the 2006 season, Wisconsin is 27-6 (.818) in the month of November. 2 #GORDONTOGOTHAM #GORDONTOGOTHAM WISCONSIN S MELVIN GORDON THE NATION S LEADING RUSHER AND SCORER On Saturday, Gordon earned more than a courtesy trip to New York for the Heisman ceremony on Dec. 13. He earned the right to be seriously evaluated as a Heisman contender. Adam Rittenberg, ESPN.com A SEASON TO REMEMBER Gordon is averaging 8.30 yards per carry this season. How does that stack up with the best seasons of some of the NCAA s all-time greatest RBs? THE GREATS Melvin Gordon is averaging what would be an NCAA record 8.19 yards per carry over his career. Of those 37 snaps, Gordon got the ball 22 times (20 carries and two receptions) for 209 yards (9.5 yards per touch) and scored two touchdowns. When Iowa cut the Badgers lead to with 11:10 left in the game, Wisconsin responded with a 7-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. Gordon accounted for 78 yards on the drive (UW had a 5-yard delay of game penalty during the drive), catching two passes for 45 yards and running three times 33 yards. Gordon finished with 200 rushing yards his fifth 200-yard effort of the season and the sixth of his career, most of any active player. He also hauled in four catches for a career-high 64 yards. GORDON S SEASON This season, Gordon: Leads the nation in rushing, at yards per game Leads the nation in rushing average, at 8.30 yards per carry Leads the nation in scoring, with 27 touchdowns Gordon s 2,109 rushing yards are 203 more than Indiana RB Tevin Coleman, who ranks No. 2 nationally with 1,906. Gordon is the 17th player in FBS history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, and the eighth to eclipse the 2,000 mark in 11 games, joining Marcus Allen (USC, 1981), Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State, 1988), Rashaan Salaam (Colorado, 1994), Troy Davis (Iowa State, 1995, 96), Byron Hanspard (Texas Tech, 1996), Ricky Williams (Texas, 1998) and LaDainian Tomlinson (TCU, 2000). Gordon reached 2,000 yards in a season in fewer carries than any player in FBS history, doing so on his 241st attempt of the season: FEWEST CARRIES TO REACH 2,000 YDS Att. Gordon has rushed for 200 yards in a game five times this season, the most of any FBS player. Ron Dayne, who had five 200-yard games in 1996 and 1999, is the only other UW player with at least four 200-yard games in a season. Gordon has rushed for at least 100 yards in nine straight games and in 10 of 11 games this season.

3 #GORDONTOGOTHAM In eight games against Power 5 conference opponents, Gordon has averaged yards per game, 8.53 yards per attempt and scored 19 touchdowns leading the nation in all three categories against Power 5 competition. In his last seven games against teams ranked in the AP Top 25, Gordon is averaging rushing yards per game and 9.95 yards per carry. He has rushed for at least 140 yards in his last four games against ranked teams. Gordon has rushed for 941 yards in the month of November more than all but 10 of the other 124 FBS teams. Gordon s rushing totals from just the first three quarters of games would still be enough to lead the country with 1,915 yards (Indiana s Tevin Coleman has 1,906 yards). Gordon has had just 37 carries in the fourth quarter this season (he averages 72.3 carries in the other three quarters) and ranks 67th in the country with 194 rushing yards in the fourth quarter. Gordon leads the country in runs of 10+ (50), 20+ (29), 30+ (20), 40+ (16), and 50+ (9) yards. His 29 runs of 20 or more yards are 12 more than the players with the next highest total (three tied with 17). Indiana (16) is the only other TEAM in the FBS with as many 40-yard runs as Gordon this season. Gordon is averaging an astounding 9.70 yards per carry in the second half this season, including an amazing yards per carry in the third quarter. He averages only 7.22 yards per carry in the first half. Gordon leads the nation in yards from scrimmage at per game. He has accounted for 42.3 percent of the Badgers total offense. Tevin Coleman ranks No. 2 at yards from scrimmage per contest. Gordon s rushing average of yards per game would rank seventh in NCAA history. With 1,497 yards through seven Big Ten games, Gordon needs 53 yards to break Northwestern RB Damien Anderson s record for rushing yards in a conference season (1,549 yards in 2000). Gordon is averaging yards per conference game, well ahead of Anderson s Big Ten record of 193.6, also set in Gordon s 27 touchdowns this season rank No. 2 on the Big Ten s single-season list, trailing only the 39 scored by Montee Ball in 2011 to match the FBS record for TDs in a season. Gordon has eight multiple-touchdown games, matching Boise State s Jay Ajayi for the most of any FBS player this season. Gordon has scored 25 touchdowns in his last nine games (2.8 per game). GORDON S CAREER For his career, Gordon: Leads all active players with 4,437 rushing yards Leads all active players in rushing average at 8.19 yards per carry 0.89 yards per attempt more than No. 2-ranked Tevin Coleman of Indiana (7.30) Ranks No. 4 in Wisconsin history with 4,437 rushing yards and needs 49 to move into 10th place on the Big Ten s all-time list Ranks in a tie for fifth in Wisconsin history with 44 total touchdowns and needs two to move into tie for 10th place on the Big Ten s all-time list LONG RUNS - LAST TWO YEARS Gordon leads the country in runs of 10+, 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+ yards and ranks second in 60+ over the last two seasons. 4 #GORDONTOGOTHAM If it wasn t clear already, he deserves a spot at the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York. After Saturday... he deserves serious consideration to win the award. Matt Brown, Sports on Earth Even with two games left in his regular-season schedule -- and perhaps a Big Ten title game -- Gordon has more touchdowns and a better yards-per-carry average than (Ron) Dayne or (Mark) Ingram during their entire Heisman seasons. Zac Ellis, SI.com The last FBS player to average at least 8.0 yards per carry in a career was Houston RB Chuck Weatherspoon ( ), who checks in at 8.13 yards per carry (3,327 yards on 409 attempts, including bowl stats). The last FBS player to average at least 7.5 yards per carry was Arkansas RB Felix Jones ( ), at 7.66 yards per carry (2,956 yards on 386 attempts). POINTS AT A PREMIUM The Badgers have allowed an average of 16.1 points per game. UW has allowed fewer than 16 points per game in a season four times in the last 50 years: 1998 (11.9 ppg), 1999 (12.8 ppg), 2004 (15.4) and 2006 (12.1 ppg). Nebraska entered its game with UW averaging 40.4 points per game and was held to 24 all coming on four drives in which the Huskers started in Wisconsin territory, with an average starting field position of the UW 26. Purdue had scored 16 touchdowns in its previous four games but was held to a single TD by the Badgers. Rutgers entered its game with UW averaging 27.3 points per game and was shut out for the first time since Maryland entered its game against UW averaging 35.1 points per game and having scored at least 24 in every game. UW held the Terrapins to 7 points a touchdown in the final minute against the Badgers No. 2 defense. On average, the Badgers are holding opponents to 65.2% of the average scoring output of their other games. That relative scoring defense mark ranks 10th in the FBS. Wisconsin has allowed just 20 touchdowns in 11 games, the fourth-lowest total in the FBS behind only Ole Miss (16), Alabama (17) and Penn State (19). JUST A SHORT DRIVE Over its last four games, Wisconsin s defense has allowed just 15 of 58 opponent possessions that began in opponent territory to cross midfield (25.9%). On the season, the Badgers have allowed just 33.1% of drives that started in opponents territory to cross the 50 yard line. That s the fourth-best mark in the FBS (Penn State leads at 29.6%). Wisconsin has limited 70.1% of opponents drives to six plays or fewer, the second-best mark in the FBS. Ole Miss (71.0%) is the only other team with more than 70% of opponents possessions lasting six plays or fewer. DEFENSE / OFFENSE NOTES Wisconsin has forced opponents to punt on 56.7% of their possessions this season, the best rate of any FBS defense. Clemson ranks No. 2 at 54.9%. A TOTAL DEFENSE Including limiting Nebraska to 180 total yards, the Badgers have held four opponents to fewer than 200 yards this season. Only Clemson (5) has done so more often. Wisconsin s opponents are averaging just 4.35 yards per play, the seventh-best mark in the country. Clemson (3.97) leads the FBS. Wisconsin has allowed just 94 plays of 10-plus yards this season, matching UCF for the fewest allowed by an FBS defense. NOWHERE TO RUN Over the last five games, the Badgers defense is allowing an average of 73.4 rushing yards. The Badgers have held 6 of their last 10 opponents to less than 100 rushing yards, something they ve accomplished in 10 of 23 games under Dave Aranda and Gary Andersen. UW is 10-0 in those games. The Badgers have allowed an opposing player to rush for 100 yards just three times over the last two seasons. Offensively, Wisconsin has produced yard rushers in that time span. RED LIGHT IN THE RED ZONE Wisconsin has allowed just 11 red-zone touchdowns this season, matching Ole Miss and Temple for the fewest in the country. The Badgers have allowed just 21 red zone trips on the season the fewest allowed by an FBS team. Clemson ranks No. 2 with 23 red-zone trips allowed. THIRD DOWN AND OUT Wisconsin s defense ranks No. 3 nationally in opponents third-down conversion rate at 27.7%. That trails only Clemson (27.1%) and Penn State (27.5%). Opponents have successfully converted just 25 of the 97 (25.8%) third-down attempts they ve made through the air against Wisconsin s defense. On the ground, UW opponents have rushed 58 times on third down for a total of 17 net yards. PRESSURE BUILDING The Badgers defense has dialed up the pressure in 2014 and has already surpassed its tackles for loss and sacks totals from last season. Through 11 games, UW has 77 tackles for loss (64 in 13 games in 2013) and 34 sacks (26). The Badgers are averaging 3.1 sacks per game, which ranks in a tie with Michigan State for the Big Ten lead and a tie for 15th nationally. UW ranked in a tie for 65th nationally in sacks, at 1.9 per game, last season.

Last season, UW ranked 11th in the league at 4.9 TFLs per game. Wisconsin is the only team in the Big Ten with four players ranked among the league s top 20 in tackles for loss: sophomore OLB Vince Biegel (2nd, 14.5), senior ILB Derek Landisch (T-3rd, 13.5), junior OLB Joe Schobert (T-17th, 9.5), senior ILB Marcus Trotter (T-19th, 9.0). Landisch ranks in a tie for seventh in the league with 7.0 sacks, and Biegel is tied for eighth at 6.5 sacks. UNDER CONTROL Wisconsin has held the ball for an average of 33:45, the seventh-best time of possession mark in the FBS. That ball control, combined with UW forcing a nation-leading 35.8% of opponent drives to end as three-and-outs, has resulted in UW opponents averaging just 59.5 plays per game. That s the second-lowest total for an FBS defense (UTEP, 58.8 plays per game). On average, UW runs 8.2 more plays per game than its opponents. MATTER OF MARGIN Over its last six games, Wisconsin is averaging 41.0 points and total yards per game. During that six-game win streak, UW has outscored its opponents by an average of 24.5 points per game and outgained them by an average of yards. RUNNING AWAY WITH IT The Badgers have rushed for a schoolrecord 3,778 yards in their first 11 games 502 more than they had through 11 games in 2013 (3,276), when they set the previous record of 3,689 yards (in 13 games). According to STATS, only two teams have averaged rushing yards per game in a season since 1996: Nebraska in 1997 (392.6 yards per game) and Army in 2012 (369.8). Navy (354.8) is currently avearging more than 350 yards per game this season, with Wisconsin (343.5) knocking on the door. Wisconsin has run for at least 250 yards in 10 of its first 11 games, including three 400-yard and two 500-yard performances, on its way to average rushing yards per game. Georgia Tech (327.9) is the only other team from a Power Five conference averaging at least 300 rushing yards and the only other Power Five team with yard rushing games on the season. The Badgers own the top two rushing performances in the country this season: 644 yards vs. Bowling Green on Sept. 20 and 581 yards vs. Nebraska on Nov. 15. Between Gordon (7), Clement (1) and McEvoy (1), the Badgers have had a total of nine 150-yard rushing performances this season, the most of any FBS team. The Badgers have given up a sack on just 3.4% of their pass attempts this season (8 of 234), a sack rate that ranks UW No. 7 among Power Five teams. Oklahoma leads the FBS with a sack rate of 1.8% (6 sacks on 332 passing attempts). PAIR OF PASSERS With Wisconsin utilizing a two-quarterback system over its last six games, juniors Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy have combined to complete 60.8% of their passes for yards per game, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. In addition, McEvoy has rushed for 276 yards on just 26 attempts (10.6 average) and scored four rushing TDs. In the six games UW has used its two-qb system, the Badgers have averaged 41.0 points and total yards per game. UW trails only Minnesota (7-for-8, 87.5%), Ball State (10-for-12, 83.3%) and Missouri (9-for-11, 81.8%). SOMETHING SPECIAL Along with its defense, Wisconsin has benefitted from strong play on special teams in its last four games: Freshman K Rafael Gaglianone has converted 10 consecutive field goal attempts, including a 3-for-3 performance vs. Rutgers (from 32, 27 and 46 yards), a 2-for-2 showing at Purdue (24, 31) and a 2-for-2 day at Iowa (50, 22). On its 20 punts over the last five games, the Badgers punt unit allowed opponents to attempt just four returns for a total of 18 yards. Gaglianone has converted 15 of 18 field goal attempts this season, and his field-goal percentage of 83.3% would rank in a tie for third in school history (Philip Welch, 20-for-24, 2008). Over those last five games, the opponent drives that followed Wisconsin s 20 punts have resulted in a total of two scores (both touchdowns). Maryland entered its game with UW ranked No. 3 nationally and atop the Big Ten in punt return average at 19.0 and was held to one return for 0 yards. Rutgers had one return for 3 yards. Purdue entered its game vs. UW leading the Big Ten and ranking No. 13 nationally in punt returns at 14.4 yards per runback. GENERAL NOTES The Boilermakers did not have a return vs. the Badgers. Nebraska entered its game at UW ranked No. 2 in the league at 13.6 yards per punt return and boasting the nation s top returner (minimum 15 returns) in De Mornay Pierson-El (15.2 average). He was limited to one return for 14 yards. THOSE RETURNS DOE Senior WR Kenzel Doe has eight punt returns for 15-plus yards on the season, and seven have set up a touchdown for the Badgers. Doe s average of 11.7 yards per punt return ranks fifth among FBS players with at least 20 returns. Nebraska WR De Mornay Pierson-El is the national leader (15.2), followed by Florida WR Andre Debose (14.6), Utah State WR JoJo Natson (12.1) and Missouri RB Marcus Murphy (12.0). Doe owns four punt returns of 20-plus yards this season, a mark topped by only eight FBS players. Pierson-El leads the country with seven returns of 20-plus yards. Doe s career average of 10.2 yards per punt return ranks in a tie for sixth all-time at UW, matching Thad McFadden, ( , ). With 1,108 for his career, Doe is the eighth player in school history to collect at least 1,000 career punt return yards and now ranks No. 5 all-time at UW. Doe ranks No. 2 on UW s all-time list for career kickoff return average at 24.8 yards per return. Doe s former teammate, Jared Abbrederis ( ) holds the school record at 25.8 yards per return.

Carolina) HEAD COACH GARY ANDERSEN SECOND SEASON After four years of building a winning program at Utah State, Gary Andersen has stepped in and not missed a beat while maintaining the level of excellence that has defined Wisconsin football over the past two decades. Andersen, 50, was introduced as the 29th head coach in Wisconsin football history on Dec. 20, 2012 after four-year run as the head coach at Utah State in which he was named WAC Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award in He engineered a transition described by both the coaches and players at Wisconsin as seamless, leading the Badgers to a 9-4 record, including a 6-2 mark Big Ten play during his debut season in For his efforts, Andersen was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Coach of the Year Award. Academically, the Badgers were publically recognized by the NCAA for holding the nation s third-highest Academic Progress Rate score. In scoring a 45-0 win over UMass and a 48-0 victory over Tennessee Tech, Andersen became just the seventh head coach since World War II to open his career at a school with back-to-back shutouts, and the first since Fred Akers at Texas in Dating back to his time at Utah State, Andersen has won 25 of his last 32 games as a head coach. Of the 31 coaches that took over at a new Football Bowl Subdivision program in 2013, Andersen was one of just five to score at least nine wins in his first season at the helm. He oversaw a Badgers team that finished the regular season ranked No. 7 nationally in total defense and No. 18 in total offense. Wisconsin also ranked No. 6 in scoring defense, allowing just 16.3 points per game. The Badgers set program records for total offense with yards per game and rushing yards in a season with 3,689. UW s rushing average of 6.62 yards per carry was also a school record, while running backs James White and Melvin Gordon set the FBS record for most rushing yards by a pair of teammates in a season by combining for 3,053 yards. They also made Wisconsin the first team in FBS history to have two 1,400-yard rushers in the same season. Andersen s squad had a pair of All-Americans in senior LB Chris Borland (first team) and senior OL Ryan Groy (third team). Three players earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in senior WR Jared Abbrederis, Borland and Groy, with 14 Badgers earning some level of all-conference distinction. Borland capped a tremendous career by being named Nagurski-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year in addition to being a finalist for the Chicago Tribune s Silver Football given to the Big Ten MVP. Borland, who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, became one of five players from Andersen s first UW team to be selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, joining WR Jared Abbrederis (Green Bay), NG Beau Allen (Philadelphia), S Dezmen Southward (Atlanta) and RB James White (New England). Since the start of the 2004 season, the Badgers have compiled a 67-7 record (.905) at Camp Randall Stadium. Only LSU (69) and Ohio State (69) have won more games at home over that span. Including its win over Ohio State in 2010 Wisconsin owns a 4-5 record all-time against No. 1 teams in Camp Randall Stadium. Including its unblemished home records in 2010 and 2011, UW has compiled a 7-0 record at Camp Randall Stadium four times (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011). Wisconsin won 21 consecutive games at Camp Randall Stadium from Oct. 31, 2009 to Oct. 27, That is the second-longest home winning streak in school history, trailing only the 25 in a row the Badgers won from The Badgers have allowed 10 or fewer points at home on 24 occasions over the last 10 seasons. Wisconsin s six shutouts since 1999 (65-0 vs. Temple in 2005, 14-0 vs. San Diego State in 2006, 37-0 vs. Purdue in 2009, 35-0 vs. Oregon State in 2011 and 45-0 vs. UMass and 48-0 vs. Tennessee Tech in 2013) have occurred at Camp Randall Stadium. Camp Randall Stadium, which opened in 1917, is the fourth-oldest Bowl Subdivision stadium in the nation. The only older on-campus facilities are: Georgia Tech (1913), Mississippi State (1914) and Cincinnati (1916). The Camp Randall grounds were used as a Civil War training site. It also held Confederate soldiers, many of whom died and were laid to rest on the west side of Madison. The area known as soldiers rest is the northernmost Confederate cemetery in the United States. Camp Randall Stadium served as a living quarters for students and military personnel during the 1940s. Dormitories were built underneath the east-side stands. Approximately 150 men lived there. In addition, there was a rifle range, as well as boxing and wrestling rooms. Though it has only been a tradition at Camp Randall Stadium since 1998, Jump Around is now a defining part of UW game day. Between the third and fourth quarters, Jump Around by House of Pain is played and the OLDEST STADIUMS Camp Randall Stadium is among the oldest facilities in the FBS: 1.
