UW went (.745) from 2009 to 2015, making the Badgers one of just 11 teams from Power Five conferences to average 10 wins per year over those seven seasons from 2009 to The Badgers have posted double-digit wins in 7 of the last 11 seasons. With victories over No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Michigan State this season, Wisconsin became the first Big Ten team to tally a pair of top-10 wins by Oct. 1 since Penn State accomplished the feat in 1999 with victories over No. 4 Arizona and No. 8 Miami (Fla.). Since 2006, Wisconsin has had two Outland Trophy winners (Joe Thomas and Gabe Carimi), two Doak Walker Award winners (Montee Ball and Melvin Gordon), one Unitas Golden Arm Award winner (Scott Tolzien), one Lott IMPACT Trophy winner (J.J. Watt), two Heisman Trophy finalists (Ball and Gordon) and 17 first-team All-Americans (Thomas, Travis Beckum, Taylor Mehlhaff, Kraig Urbik, Carimi, Lance Kendricks, John Moffitt, Watt, Ball, Peter Konz, Kevin Zeitler, Travis Frederick, Chris Borland, Kyle Costigan, Gordon, Rob Havenstein and Joe Schobert). BOWL BONANZA Wisconsin has played in a bowl game in each of the last 14 seasons, the longest active bowl streak in the Big Ten, and tied for the sixth-longest in the nation: ACTIVE BOWL STREAKS Team Streak (Years) 1. Florida State Virginia Tech Georgia Oklahoma LSU Wisconsin 14 Boise State 14 Including last year s win in the Holiday Bowl and the Badgers fourth Sweet 16 appearance in five seasons, Wisconsin has qualified for a bowl game and earned an NCAA men s basketball tournament invitation in each of the last 14 years. That s the longest TEAM INFORMATION such streak of two-sport success in NCAA history. Michigan State (9 years), Louisville (6) and San Diego State (6) own the nextlongest active runs. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS A year after holding the nation s top NCAA Academic Progress Rate score, Wisconsin football posted the second-highest mark of any FBS team for , matching Minnesota and Northwestern at 992. Only Duke, at 995, scored higher. The Badgers led the nation with an APR score of 998 in Wisconsin joins Clemson, Duke, Northwestern and Stanford as the only FBS football teams to earn APR Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA in each of the last four years. The Badgers have ranked in the top five of the APR nationally in each of the last four seasons, joining Duke and Northwestern as the only FBS programs to hold that distinction. POLL POSITI ON Based on the latest AP Top 25, the Badgers will start Big Ten play with four of their first five games against teams ranked among the nation s top 10: at then-no. 8 Michigan State (Sept. 24), at then-no. 4 Michigan (Oct. 1), vs. No. 2 Ohio State (Oct. 15) and vs. No. 10 Nebraska (Oct. 29). Adding in then-no. 5 LSU in its season opener, the Badgers are slated to face a total of five squads in the top 10 of the AP poll. The last time UW faced five ranked teams in the regular season was 2003, when they scored wins over No. 3 Ohio State and No. 15 Michigan State and fell to No. 13 Purdue, No. 24 Minnesota and No. 17 Iowa. Wisconsin s jump from unranked to No. 10 after Week 1 matched the best season debut by a previously unranked team since the AP Top 25 expanded to include 25 teams in Arizona also went from unranked to No. 10 in The Badgers were unranked in the preseason AP Top 25 for the first time since UW went on to finish 10-3 that season, capping the year by downing Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. MICHIGAN LEFTOVERS The Badgers saw a six-game win streak and school-record eight-game road win streak snapped in a 14-7 loss at No. 4 Michigan in its last outing two weeks ago. Including its 7-point loss at Michigan, each of Wisconsin s last 12 regular-season Big Ten losses have come by 7 or fewer points. That streak that dates back to a loss at Michigan State in the 2010 season opener. The Badgers are (.755) in conference play over that span. Wisconsin s defense held Michigan to 14 points, with the Wolverines previous season low the 45 points they scored vs. 3

Including four vs. Michigan State on Sept. 24, the Badgers have forced 10 turnovers (7 interceptions, 3 fumbles) through their first five games. That s UW s highest total since forcing 15 in the first five games of the 2009 season. IT TAKES A TEAM Wisconsin s defensive success has been a true team effort. Through five games, the Badgers leading tackler (junior ILB Jack Cichy) has only 35 total tackles. GAME NOTES Eight players have logged double-digit tackles on the season: Cichy (35), T.J. Watt (29), T.J. Edwards (28), Leo Musso (23), D Cota Dixon (16), Derrick Tindal (15), Sojourn Shelton (14), Garret Dooley (13), Ryan Connelly (11) and Lubern Figaro (10). Edwards (11 vs. Georgia State) and D Cota Dixon (7 at Michigan State). NOWHERE TO RUN Dating back to last season, Wisconsin has held its opponents under 100 rushing yards in 8 of its last 12 games, going 8-0 in those contests. The Badgers have held opponents to an average of 85.3 yards per game and 2.9 yards per attempt over that 12-game stretch. COMPLEMENTARY CORNERS Junior CB Derrick Tindal is tied for 11th nationally with eight passes defended (3 interceptions, 5 pass breakups), while senior CB Sojourn Shelton has recorded six passes defended (1 interception, 5 pass breakups). Tindal s three INTs rank him in a tie for seventh nationally and trailing only league leader Malik Hooker of Ohio State (4) among Big Ten players. Shelton logged his first interception of the season and the sixth of his career at Michigan State and also registered a pass breakup, giving him 31 passes defended in his career to match Devin Smith ( ) for No. 8 in UW history. Shelton owns 25 pass breakups in his career, ranking No. 8 all-time at UW in that category, as well. He needs one PBU to tie Jeff Messenger ( ) and Allen Langford ( ) for sixth on the Badgers career list. The duo of Shelton and Tindal has helped the Badgers rank in a tie for 18th nationally with seven interceptions on the year. SMU (13) leads the FBS, with only Ohio State (10) and Nebraska (9) the only Big Ten squads to log more picks so far this year. NO MORE WAITING FOR WATT Junior OLB T.J. Wisconsin finished its game vs. Georgia State with zero penalties, the Badgers first penalty-free game since Nov. 15, 1997 vs. No. 1-ranked Michigan. Through five games, Wisconsin has averaged just 3.6 penalties per contest to lead the Big Ten and rank in a tie for No. 6 nationally for fewest flags per game. Navy (2.2 penalties per game) is the nation s leastpenalized team. DEPTH CHARGE The Badgers have just four seniors among the 22 projected starters in their depth chart: RB Corey Clement, WR Rob Wheelwright, FS Leo Musso and CB Sojourn Shelton. Diving into the second line of the twodeep adds QB Bart Houston, RB Dare Ogunbowale and TE Eric Steffes to give the Badgers seven seniors among the 48 first- or second-team spots included on their depth chart. WELCOME FRESHMEN A total of 19 freshmen have made their Badgers debuts so far this season: True Freshmen (7): S Eric Burrell (vs. LSU), WR Quintez Cephus (LSU), OLB Griffin Grady (Akron), P Anthony Lotti (Akron), S Patrick Johnson (Akron), NT Garrett Rand (LSU), WR A.J. Taylor (LSU) Redshirt Freshmen (12): P Connor Allen (LSU), OLB Zack Baun (LSU), CB Titus Booker (LSU), OL Jon Dietzen (LSU), OL Ian Dretzka (Akron), OL David Edwards (LSU), OL Jason Erdmann (Akron), QB Alex Hornibrook (Akron), OLB Tyler Johnson (LSU), OL David Moorman (LSU), TE Kyle Penniston (LSU), RB Bradrick Shaw (LSU) In addition, two transfers have made their UW debuts after sitting out the 2015 season due to NCAA rule: junior OL Ryan Ramczyk and sophomore WR Ricky Finco. FRESHMEN FRONT AND CENTER Freshmen proved critical to the Badgers win over Georgia State on Sept. 17: Redshirt freshman QB Alex Hornibrook entered the game in the third quarter and went 8-for-12 for 122 yards with 1 touchdown and an interception (162.9 pass efficiency rating). Including a 5-for-5 performance vs. Akron and completions on his first four attempts vs. Georgia State, Hornibrook GAME NOTES began his Badgers career by completing nine consecutive passes. Redshirt freshman RB Bradrick Shaw tallied 62 yards on a career-high 15 carries with senior Corey Clement and sophomore Taiwan Deal both limited by injuries. With starting tight end Troy Fumagalli sidelined by an injury in the first quarter, redshirt freshman TE Kyle Penniston picked up the slack. He recorded the first catch of his career on a 5-yard pass from Bart Houston in the second quarter. He then caught the first TD pass of his career to provide the winning points for UW in the fourth quarter and finished with 35 yards on 3 receptions. ENDICOTT EASES IN With Rafael Gaglianone sidelined for the season by a back injury, senior K Andrew Endicott assumed field goal duties for the Badgers at Michigan State and made good on the first attempt of his college career. Endicott connected on a 41-yard field goal in the third quarter to give UW a 23-6 lead. It was a bounceback for Endicott, who missed his second career PAT attempt in the first quarter. He went on to finish 3-for-4 on extra points on the day. KILLIN IT ON KICKOFFS Sophomore P.J. Rosowski has settled nicely into the role of kickoff specialist for the Badgers. Rosowski has recorded touchbacks on 16 of his 27 efforts (59.3%) on the season. That ranks Rosowski second among Big Ten kickers, trailing only Iowa s Ron Coluzzi (78.1%). That s a major improvement for UW, which recorded touchbacks on 13 of 71 kickoffs last season (18.3%). Rosowski logged touchbacks on five of six kickoffs vs. Georgia State on Sept. 17. Opponents have returned only 11 of 28 kickoffs on the season and are averaging just 14.6 yards per return giving UW the third-best kickoff return defense mark in the nation behind only Memphis (14.0) and San Jose State (14.2). Combined, Rosowski s efforts and UW s strong kickoff coverage unit have the Badgers ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten in kickoff coverage with a net average of 57.2 yards per kickoff. FAMILIAR FACES Wisconsin s football staff includes 13 former Badgers players: head coach Paul Chryst; assistant coaches Jim Leonhard, Joe Rudolph and Mickey Turner; graduate assistants Jeff Duckworth, Antonio Fenelus, Al Johnson and Pat Muldoon; quality control coordinators Jon Budmayr and Taylor Mehlhaff; and strength and conditioning coaches Ross Kolodziej, Jamil Walker and Kyle Costigan. Among FBS programs, only BYU (9), Air Force (7) and Boise State (5) have more alumni among their 10-person coaching 5 5

Boston College, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska and Washington State are the other Power Five schools with special teams coordinators. CALLING THE SHOTS UW head coach Paul Chryst developed a reputation for building highly-efficient offenses during his time as the Badgers offensive coordinator from Over his last two seasons ( ), the Badgers averaged 42.9 points per game, ranking third among Power Five teams over that timeframe only Oregon (46.5 ppg) and Oklahoma State (46.5) averaged more. Chryst has continued as the Badgers playcaller in his return to Madison, putting him among a small group of Power Five head coaches that also call offensive plays. He joins Georgia Tech s Paul Johnson, Washington State s Mike Leach and Kansas David Beaty in that club. Chryst is 14-3 (.824) through his first 17 games as head coach at UW, giving him the second-best record through 17 games of any UW coach in the modern era. Bret Bielema started 16-1 (.941) across the 2006 and 2007 seasons. FINISHING MOVES Trailing with 11:36 remaining vs. Georgia State, the Badgers used their second fourth-quarter comeback of the season to pull out the win (also trailed LSU, 14-13). Wisconsin has put together fourth-quarter comebacks in 4 of 16 games under head coach Paul Chryst. LAST MEETING STATISTICAL MATCHUP: WISCONSIN VS. OHIO STATE MATCHUP #6 OHIO STATE 59, #11 WISCONSIN 0 DEC. 6, 2014 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Cardale Jones threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns and was named the game s MVP in his first career start, leading No. 6 Ohio State to a 59-0 rout of No. 11 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Football Championship Game an emphatic statement that pushed the Buckeyes into the inaugural College Football Playoff. Some wondered whether losing record-setting quarterback J.T. Barrett with a broken ankle in the regularseason finale after losing Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller with a right shoulder injury in August, would be too much to overcome. Not a chance. Ohio State scored on five of its first six possessions against the nation s No. 4 scoring defense. Jones was efficient and effective, going 12-of-17. Ezekiel Elliott carried 12 times for 150 yards and two scores in the first half and finished with 20 carries for a career-high 220 yards. Devin Smith caught four passes for 137 yards and three scores. The defense completely shut down Wisconsin (10-3, 7-1) and kept Melvin Gordon, the nation s leading rusher, under control. Gordon ran 26 times for 76 yards, his second-worst game of the season. 8 HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST SECOND SEASON HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST It s safe to say Paul Chryst s homecoming is off to a strong start. In his first season as head coach at his alma mater, Chryst led Wisconsin to a 10-3 record in 2015 a run that concluded with a victory over USC in the Holiday Bowl. The Badgers boasted the nation s stingiest defense, allowing just 13.7 points per game, with first-team All-American and Big Ten Linebacker of the Year Joe Schobert leading the way with his 19.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. UW also ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense, allowing only yards per game, and was one of four FBS teams to give up less than 100 rushing yards per game. Offensively, first-team All-Big Ten selection, senior WR Alex Erickson made 77 catches and fell just one reception shy of matching the Badgers single-season school record. Senior Joel Stave finished his career as UW s all-time winningest quarterback while ranking No. 2 in school history in passing yards, touchdowns, completions and attempts. A former Wisconsin player and assistant coach and a Madison native, Chryst returned to his roots when he was named the Badgers 30th head coach on Dec. 17, Before spending the previous three seasons as the head coach at Pittsburgh, where he led the Panthers to three consecutive bowl appearances, Chryst oversaw the most explosive offenses in UW history as the Badgers offensive coordinator. Wisconsin averaged 34.1 points and yards of total offense in Chryst s seven years as offensive coordinator. Both marks were the best in the Big Ten over that span. During those seven seasons, Wisconsin claimed a pair of Big Ten titles and compiled a (.761) record, winning at least 10 games five times. With current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Scott Tolzien at the helm in 2010, UW averaged more than 40.0 points a game for the first time in school history, ranking fifth in the country at 41.5 points per contest. On the way to their first Big Ten title since 1999, the Badgers scored at least 70 points three times. Individually, Tolzien won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and left tackle Gabe Carimi won the Outland Trophy. Running back John Clay was a Doak Walker Award finalist while tight end Lance Kendricks and left guard John Moffitt joined Carimi as first-team All-Americans. The following season, UW did the unthinkable and improved upon that dynamic season. In the one and only year they were united, Chryst and quarterback Russell Wilson combined on a season for the ages. Wilson set the FBS record for pass efficiency (191.8) in addition to school records for passing yards (3,175) and passing touchdowns (33, second-most in Big Ten history). Not to be outdone, junior running back Montee Ball etched his own name in the NCAA record book, tying Barry Sanders single-season record with 39 touchdowns. Ball ran for 1,923 yards and was a Heisman Trophy finalist. For the second-straight season, the Badgers had three first-team All- Americans with center Peter Konz and guard Kevin Zeitler joining Ball. The Badgers averaged a school-record 44.1 points per game, sixth-best in the country. In fact, UW led the conference in scoring in each of Chryst s last three seasons, with the final two ranking among the top five in the league s modern era. 9 THE CHRYST FILE Career Record (5th Season): (.589) Record at Wisconsin: 14-4 (2nd Season) Big Ten Record: 7-3 (2nd Season) Bowl Record: 2-1 (.667) Birthdate: Nov. 17, 1965 Hometown: Madison, Wis. Since the start of the 2004 season, the Badgers have compiled a 75-9 record (.893) at Camp Randall Stadium. Among Power Five programs, only Ohio State (80-9,.899) has won a higher percentage of its home games in that time frame. Oklahoma (67-8) also owns an.893 winning percentage in that span. The Badgers have allowed 10 or fewer points at home on 31 occasions since the start of the 2004 season. Eight of Wisconsin s shutouts since 1999 (65-0 vs. Temple in 2005; 14-0 vs. San Diego State in 2006; 37-0 vs. Purdue in 2009; 35-0 vs. Oregon State in 2011; 45-0 vs. UMass and 48-0 vs. Tennessee Tech in 2013; 58-0 vs. Miami (Ohio); 28-0 vs. Hawai i in 2015) have occurred at Camp Randall Stadium. Including its win over Ohio State in 2010, Wisconsin owns a 4-5 record all-time against No. 1 teams in Camp Randall Stadium. Including its unblemished home record in 2014, UW has compiled a 7-0 record at Camp Randall Stadium five times (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011). Wisconsin won 21 consecutive games at Camp Randall from Oct. 31, 2009 to Oct. 27, That is the secondlongest home winning streak in school history, trailing only the 25 in a row the Badgers won from Camp Randall Stadium, which opened in 1917, is the fourth-oldest stadium in the FBS. The only older on-campus facilities are: Georgia Tech (1913), Mississippi State (1914) and Cincinnati (1916). The Camp Randall grounds were used as a Civil War training site. It also held Confederate soldiers, many of whom died and were laid to rest on the west side of Madison. The area known as soldiers rest is the northernmost Confederate cemetery in the United States. Camp Randall Stadium served as a living quarters for students and military personnel during the 1940s. Dormitories were built underneath the east side stands. Approximately 150 men lived there.
