GAME 1 WISCONSIN "0$0% VS. #5/6 LSU "0$0% SEPT. 3, :36 P.M. "CT% GREEN BAY, WIS LAMBEAU FIELD "81,435% ABC HISTORIC OPENER AWAITS IN GREEN BAY The 128th season of Wisconsin football gets underway in historic fashion Saturday when the Badgers take on fifth-ranked LSU in the first major college football game at legendary Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The Lambeau Field College Classic presented by Carmex represents the third-consecutive season opener in which Wisconsin will take on an opponent from the Southeastern Conference in an NFL venue. The Badgers faced LSU in Houston s NRG Stadium in 2014 and took on Alabama at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, last season. The Badgers have not played a game in the state of Wisconsin outside of Madison since scoring a 21-0 win over Notre Dame in Milwaukee on Oct. 14, The Badgers also have played games in Wisconsin in the cities of Beloit and Marinette. KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER Senior OLB Vince Biegel is back to captain a defense that led the na#on last season in fewest points allowed. The Badgers are set to begin their second season under head coach Paul Chryst, whose debut saw UW post a 10-3 record and score a win over USC in the Holiday Bowl. Chryst was one of four first-year coaches to lead his team to a double-digit win total in 2015, joining Florida s Jim McElwain (10-4), Houston s Tom Herman (13-1) and Michigan s Jim Harbaugh (10-3). Wisconsin has won at least 10 games five times in the last seven years, going (.745) over that span while winning three Big Ten championships and extending its league-leading bowl appearance streak to 14 consecutive seasons. After winning 16 straight season openers from 1998 to 2013, the Badgers look to snap a streak of consecutive Week 1 losses after falling to LSU in 2014 and Alabama in The Badgers have just 13 seniors on their roster. Among Power Five programs, only Kentucky (11), Penn State (12) and Baylor (12) have fewer. UW has only eight seniors listed among the 45 players in the offensive and defensive two-deep on its season-opening depth chart (See Page 10). Wisconsin fifth-year senior QB Bart Houston is expected to make the first start of his career Saturday. He is named after legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr. Houston will make his first collegiate start at age 23 at Lambeau Field. Starr was 22 years old when he made his first NFL start at Green Bay s City Stadium in Starr s debut came in front of 17,986 fans. Sixty years later, Houston will play before a sellout crowd of 81, Of the 114 players on the Badgers roster for the start of the 2016 season, 55 or 48.2 percent hail from Wisconsin. That includes a pair of Green Bay natives in sophomore FB Alec Ingold (Bay Port) and freshman TE Gabe Lloyd (Northeast Wisconsin Lutheran). WISCONSIN BADGERS Head Coach: Paul Chryst Record at WIS: 10-3 (2nd Year) Overall: (5th Year) Lambeau Field will be the seventh NFL stadium to host the Badgers since the 2011 season, joining Soldier Field (2011), Lucas Oil Stadium (2011, 2012, 2014), NRG Stadium (2014), Raymond James Stadium (2014), AT&T Stadium (2015) and Qualcomm Stadium (2015). LSU TIGERS Head Coach: Les Miles Record at LSU: (12th Year) Overall: (15th Year) Senior RB Corey Clement owns eight career games of 100-plus rushing yards, and Wisconsin is 8-0 when Clement tops the century mark. Though slowed by injury last season, Clement has averaged 6.6 yards per carry and scored 21 touchdowns in his career. Ohio State Alabama Oregon TCU LSU Oklahoma USC Wisconsin Florida Florida State Wisconsin and LSU each have won 70 games since the start of the 2009 season, making the Badgers and Tigers two of just 11 teams from Power Five conferences to average 10 wins over the last seven seasons. They join Alabama (86 wins), Ohio State (79), Oregon (79), Florida State (75), Stanford (74), Clemson (71), Michigan State (71), Oklahoma (70) and TCU (70). The Badgers have posted double-digit wins in 7 of the last 11 seasons. Since 2004, Wisconsin has compiled a (.698) record in the Big Ten. Only Ohio State (81-15,.844) has a better record over the last 12 years. Since 2006, Wisconsin has had two Outland Trophy winners (Joe Thomas and Gabe Carimi), two Doak Walker Award winners (Montee Ball and Melvin Gordon), one Unitas Golden Arm Award winner (Scott Tolzien), one Lott IMPACT Trophy winner (J.J. Watt), two Heisman Trophy finalists (Ball and Gordon) and 17 first-team All-Americans (Thomas, Travis Beckum, Taylor Mehlhaff, Kraig Urbik, Carimi, Lance Kendricks, John Moffitt, Watt, Ball, Peter Konz, Kevin Zeitler, Travis Frederick, Chris Borland, Kyle Costigan, Gordon, Rob Havenstein and Joe Schobert). BOWL BONANZA Wisconsin has played in a bowl game in each of the last 14 seasons, the longest active bowl streak in the Big Ten, and tied for the sixth-longest in the nation: ACTIVE BOWL STREAKS Team Streak (Years) 1. Florida State Virginia Tech Georgia Oklahoma LSU Wisconsin 14 Boise State 14 Including last year s win in the Holiday Bowl and the Badgers fourth Sweet 16 appearance in five seasons, Wisconsin has qualified for a bowl game and earned an NCAA men s basketball tournament invitation in each of the last 14 years. That s the longest such streak of two-sport success in NCAA history. Michigan State (9 years), Louisville (6) and San Diego State (6) own the nextlongest active runs. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS A year after holding the nation s top NCAA Academic Progress Rate score, Wisconsin football posted the second-highest mark of any FBS team for , matching Minnesota and Northwestern at 992. Only Duke, at 995, scored higher. The Badgers led the nation with an APR score of 998 in Wisconsin joins Clemson, Duke, Northwestern and Stanford as the only FBS football teams to earn APR Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA in each of the last four years. The Badgers have ranked in the top five of the APR nationally in each of the last four seasons, joining Duke and Northwestern as the only FBS programs to hold that distinction. BIEGEL S BACK Between his emotional on-field celebrations and his signature mullet, senior OLB Vince Biegel is hard to miss on the field. After electing to bypass the NFL draft, he returns to lead a Wisconsin defense that ranked No. 1 nationally in points allowed (13.7 ppg). A member of the Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Lombardi Award, Nagurski Trophy and Senior Bowl watch lists, Biegel was named the nation s No. 1 returning outside linebacker by Pro Football Focus. Biegel was voted, along with senior RB Dare Ogunbowale, a captain for the 2016 season by his teammates. Biegel enters the season as UW s most experienced player with 42 games played and 28 starts. He has started 25 consecutive games at outside linebacker. Heading into his final season, Biegel ranks eighth in school history with 17.5 career sacks and also ranks 15th all-time in tackles for loss, with Last year, Biegel (8) and Big Ten Linebacker of the Year Joe Schobert (9.5) combined for 17.5 sacks, the second-highest total by any linebacker pair in the country. Only Louisville s Devonte Fields (11) and Trevon Young (8.5) had more, with Biegel, who was raised on his family s century-old cranberry marsh in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He also has been named a candidate for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his community service efforts through the Badgers Give Back program, including organizing the first Badgers Go Bald event in 2015 in which Biegel and his teammates allowed pediatric cancer patients from American Family Children s Hospital to shave their heads in a show of support. 3

The Glassboro, N.J., native returns for his senior season looking to return the Badgers rushing attack to its usually lofty standards after UW failed to produce a 1,000-yard rusher for just the third time since Clement, who owns eight 100-yard rushing games for his career, has averaged 6.6 yards per carry and scored 21 rushing TDs in his first three seasons. He ran for 547 yards as the Badgers No. 3 back behind James White and Melvin Gordon as a freshman in He then rushed for 949 yards and nine TDs as Gordon s backup in 2014, combining with the Heisman Trophy runner-up (2,587) to set the single-season FBS record for rushing yards by teammates at 3,536 yards. HERE S HOUSTON A fifth-year senior, Bart Houston will make his starting debut Saturday vs. LSU. He will be the first Badgers quarterback to make his first career start as a senior since Scott Kavanaugh on Sept. 4, Kavanaugh went 8-for-12 for 102 yards in a win over Murray State at Camp Randall Stadium. Houston has appeared at quarterback in 12 games for the Badgers, while also punting seven times across four games in The Dublin, California, native played in seven games last season, completing 27 of 47 passes (57.4 percent) for 281 yards and three touchdowns. In his most extensive action at quarterback, Houston went 22-for-33 for 232 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while playing in relief of starter Joel Stave in a win at Illinois on Oct. 24. An Eagle Scout, Houston graduated with a bachelor s degree in kinesiology in December 2015 and now is enrolled as a graduate student pursuing a master s degree in kinesiology. Wisconsin is one of eight Power Five programs to enter the 2016 season without a quarterback on its roster that has started a college game. The Badgers join Arizona State, Arkansas, North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, Utah and USC in that category. NON-LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN LSU enters Saturday s game riding an FBSrecord streak of 52 consecutive wins in regular-season non-conference games. The Tigers haven t lost to a non-conference foe in the regular season since a 26-8 setback to Virginia Tech in their 2002 season opener. Since LSU s streak began on on Sept. 7, 2002, the Tigers and Badgers rank 1-2 nationally in both wins and winning percentage in regular-season non-conference games, with LSU boasting a 52-0 record (1.000) and the Badgers matching Ohio State for the next-best mark (49-5,.907). The Badgers logged three straight wins in such games Virginia in 2001 (26-17), West Virginia in 2003 (24-17) and Washington State in 2007 (42-21) before falling to LSU in 2014 and Alabama in Saturday s game marks the third consecutive season and fifth time overall UW has opened a season at a neutral site. The last time UW faced five ranked teams in the regular season was 2003, when they scored wins over No. 3 Ohio State and No. 15 Michigan State and fell to No. 13 Purdue, No. 24 Minnesota and No. 17 Iowa. The Badgers are unranked in the preseason AP Top 25 for the first time since UW went on to finish 10-3 that season, capping the year by downing Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. 4

IN THEIR HONOR A pair of Wisconsin players will use their uniforms to pay tribute to fallen friends this season: Senior WR Reggie Love will wear No. 1 (previously wore No. 16) in honor of Daniel Wallace, who was killed in Love s hometown of Boynton Beach, Fla., in December, as well as former Notre Dame and UAB running back Greg Bryant, who was shot and killed in West Palm Beach in May. Junior K Rafael Gaglianone will wear No. 27 (previously wore No. 10) in honor of Nebraska punter Sam Foltz, who was killed in an auto accident on July 23 after leaving a kicking camp that he and Gaglianone had worked in Wales, Wis. FAMILIAR FACES Wisconsin s football staff includes 13 former Badgers players: head coach Paul Chryst; assistant coaches Jim Leonhard, Joe Rudolph and Mickey Turner; graduate assistants Jeff Duckworth, Antonio Fenelus, Al Johnson and Pat Muldoon; quality control coordinators Jon Budmayr and Taylor Mehlhaff; and strength and conditioning coaches Ross Kolodziej, Jamil Walker and Kyle Costigan. Among FBS programs, only BYU (9), Air Force (7) and Boise State (5) have more alumni among their 10-person coaching staff than the Badgers (4: Chryst, Leonhard, Rudolph, Turner). SOMETHING SPECIAL With second-year assistant coach Chris Haering heading up the Badgers units, Wisconsin is one of just six Power Five programs to utilize a dedicated special teams coordinator that does not also have coaching responsibility over an offensive or defensive position group. Boston College, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska and Washington State are the other Power Five schools with special teams coordinators. CALLING THE SHOTS UW head coach Paul Chryst developed a reputation for building highly-efficient offenses during his time as the Badgers offensive coordinator from Over his last two seasons ( ), the Badgers averaged 42.9 points per game, ranking third among Power Five teams over that timeframe only Oregon (46.5 ppg) and Oklahoma State (46.5) averaged more. Chryst has continued as the Badgers playcaller in his return to Madison, putting him among a small group of Power Five head coaches that also call offensive plays. He joins Georgia Tech s Paul Johnson, Washington State s Mike Leach and Kansas David Beaty in that club. DEPTH CHARGE The Badgers have just six seniors among the 22 projected starters in their seasonopening depth chart: QB Bart Houston, RB Corey Clement, WR Rob Wheelwright, OLB Vince Biegel, FS Leo Musso and CB Sojourn Shelton. Diving into the second line of the twodeep adds just RB Dare Ogunbowale and WR Reggie Love to give the Badgers eight seniors among the 45 first- or second-team spots included on their Week 1 depth chart. NT Garrett Rand, CB Caesar WIlliams and FS Patrick Johnson each are listed among the two-deep as true freshmen. Also expected to contribute heavily as redshirt freshmen are TE Kyle Penniston, OL Jon Dietzen and OLB Zack Baun. CONNECTING THE DOTS In 2014, Wisconsin fielded the same starting five across its offensive line in all 14 games. In 2015, injuries forced the Badgers to use eight different starting combinations in 13 games. WIth the loss of Tennessee Titans signee Tyler Marz to graduation and three-year starter at center Dan Voltz to retirement, the Badgers remain a young unit along the front line in UW is expected to line up like this: LT Ryan Ramczyk, LG Micah Kapoi or Jon Dietzen, C Michael Deiter, RG Beau Benzschawel and RT Jacob Maxwell. Deiter started all 13 games last year, with seven starts at left guard and six at center, and, as a sophomore, is the Badgers most experienced lineman. Also a sophomore this season, Kapoi made starts at both guard spots last year and played in all 12 games with 10 total starts. Also a sophomore in 2016, Benzschawel missed the first five games of last season after being injured in training camp but went on to start eight games, including the last two at right guard a move that coincided with two of UW s most successful games on the ground all season. Another sophomore, Maxwell made three starts at right tackle, including in the Badgers final two games. 7 GAME 1: WISCONSIN VS. LSU LAMBEAU FIELD COLLEGE CLASSIC MATCHUP SERIES HISTORY: LSU Overall: LSU leads, 3-0 Neutral Sites: LSU leads, 1-0 ALL-TIME MEETINGS Year Rank Result Score Location /18 L Madison /- L 7-27 Baton Rouge /13 L Houston SERIES NOTES Saturday s game marks the fourth all-time meeting between Wisconsin and LSU. The Tigers have won each of the teams three previous meetings, including their only game at a neutral site. No. 13 LSU rallied for a win over the 14th-ranked Badgers in the 2014 AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium in Houston. The Lambeau Field College Classic marks only the fifth regular-game for the Badgers against an SEC opponent in the modern era (since 1946). Three of the four previous games have come against LSU (1971, 1972, 2014). The Badgers also faced Alabama in last year s season opener. Including bowl games, the Badgers are 3-4 in their last seven meetings with SEC opponents. Their most recent win was a triumph over Auburn in the 2015 Outback Bowl. WISCONSIN-LSU CONNECTIONS First-year LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda joined the Tigers following three highly-successful years as the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin from In Aranda s final season in Madison, the Badgers led the nation in scoring defense, at 13.7 points per game, and ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense, at yards per game. Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst s father, George, was in his first season on the sideline as an assistant coach for the Badgers when UW faced ninth-ranked LSU in Baton Rouge in George Chryst was an assistant at Wisconsin from LAST MEETING #13 LSU 28, #14 WISCONSIN 24 AUG. 30, 2014 HOUSTON Wisconsin seemed to have the game in hand after Corey Clement scored in the third quarter, but Colby Delahoussaye kicked two field goals and Anthony Jennings threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to John Diarse to start an LSU rally. Jennings hit Trey Quinn for a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to three. The Tigers trailed when Jalen Mills intercepted Tanner McEvoy s pass at the LSU 47 with 11:04 left. Hilliard ran for 53 yards on the ensuing drive, capping it with a sprint through a hole on the right side. The Badgers dominated the game until the sudden turn of events in the final quarter. Wisconsin held LSU to 16 yards rushing and six first downs in the first half and Melvin Gordon opened the second half with a 63-yard run to set up Clement s 2-yard TD run with 12:24 remaining. Gordon finished with 147 yards on 16 carries. Gordon had nine carries for 64 yards in the first quarter, including a 20-yarder to the LSU 45. On the next play, McEvoy faked another handoff to Gordon and gave it to receiver Reggie Love, who weaved through the LSU defense for a 45-yard score. A 22-yard scramble by McEvoy set up a 51-yard field goal by Rafael Gaglianone and Wisconsin led A 14-yard TD run by Gordon in the second quarter and a 2-yard scoring plunge by Clement in the third after a 63-yard run by Gordon on the first play of the second half made it 24-7 Badgers with 12:24 to play in the third. 8 GAME 1: WISCONSIN VS. LSU LAMBEAU FIELD COLLEGE CLASSIC HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST HEAD COACH PAUL CHRYST SECOND SEASON It s safe to say Paul Chryst s homecoming is off to a strong start. In his first season as head coach at his alma mater, Chryst led Wisconsin to a 10-3 record in 2015 a run that concluded with a victory over USC in the Holiday Bowl. The Badgers boasted the nation s stingiest defense, allowing just 13.7 points per game, with first-team All-American and Big Ten Linebacker of the Year Joe Schobert leading the way with his 19.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. UW also ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense, allowing only yards per game, and was one of four FBS teams to give up less than 100 rushing yards per game. Offensively, first-team All-Big Ten selection, senior WR Alex Erickson made 77 catches and fell just one reception shy of matching the Badgers single-season school record. Senior Joel Stave finished his career as UW s all-time winningest quarterback while ranking No. 2 in school history in passing yards, touchdowns, completions and attempts. A former Wisconsin player and assistant coach and a Madison native, Chryst returned to his roots when he was named the Badgers 30th head coach on Dec. 17, Before spending the previous three seasons as the head coach at Pittsburgh, where he led the Panthers to three consecutive bowl appearances, Chryst oversaw the most explosive offenses in UW history as the Badgers offensive coordinator. Wisconsin averaged 34.1 points and yards of total offense in Chryst s seven years as offensive coordinator. Both marks were the best in the Big Ten over that span. During those seven seasons, Wisconsin claimed a pair of Big Ten titles and compiled a (.761) record, winning at least 10 games five times. With current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Scott Tolzien at the helm in 2010, UW averaged more than 40.0 points a game for the first time in school history, ranking fifth in the country at 41.5 points per contest. On the way to their first Big Ten title since 1999, the Badgers scored at least 70 points three times. Individually, Tolzien won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and left tackle Gabe Carimi won the Outland Trophy. Running back John Clay was a Doak Walker Award finalist while tight end Lance Kendricks and left guard John Moffitt joined Carimi as first-team All-Americans. The following season, UW did the unthinkable and improved upon that dynamic season. In the one and only year they were united, Chryst and quarterback Russell Wilson combined on a season for the ages. Wilson set the FBS record for pass efficiency (191.8) in addition to school records for passing yards (3,175) and passing touchdowns (33, second-most in Big Ten history). Not to be outdone, junior running back Montee Ball etched his own name in the NCAA record book, tying Barry Sanders single-season record with 39 touchdowns. Ball ran for 1,923 yards and was a Heisman Trophy finalist. For the second-straight season, the Badgers had three first-team All- Americans with center Peter Konz and guard Kevin Zeitler joining Ball. The Badgers averaged a school-record 44.1 points per game, sixth-best in the country. In fact, UW led the conference in scoring in each of Chryst s last three seasons, with the final two ranking among the top five in the league s modern era. Since the start of the 2004 season, the Badgers have compiled a 73-9 record (.890) at Camp Randall Stadium. Among Power Five programs, only Oklahoma (66-7,.904) and Ohio State (76-9,.894) have won a higher percentage of their home games in that time frame. The Badgers have allowed 10 or fewer points at home on 30 occasions since the start of the 2004 season. Eight of Wisconsin s eight shutouts since 1999 (65-0 vs. Temple in 2005; 14-0 vs. San Diego State in 2006; 37-0 vs. Purdue in 2009; 35-0 vs. Oregon State in 2011; 45-0 vs. UMass and 48-0 vs. Tennessee Tech in 2013; 58-0 vs. Miami (Ohio); 28-0 vs. Hawai i in 2015) have occurred at Camp Randall Stadium. Including its win over Ohio State in 2010, Wisconsin owns a 4-5 record all-time against No. 1 teams in Camp Randall Stadium. Including its unblemished home record in 2014, UW has compiled a 7-0 record at Camp Randall Stadium five times (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011). Wisconsin won 21 consecutive games at Camp Randall from Oct. 31, 2009 to Oct. 27, That is the secondlongest home winning streak in school history, trailing only the 25 in a row the Badgers won from Camp Randall Stadium, which opened in 1917, is the fourth-oldest stadium in the FBS. The only older on-campus facilities are: Georgia Tech (1913), Mississippi State (1914) and Cincinnati (1916). The Camp Randall grounds were used as a Civil War training site. It also held Confederate soldiers, many of whom died and were laid to rest on the west side of Madison. The area known as soldiers rest is the northernmost Confederate cemetery in the United States. Camp Randall Stadium served as a living quarters for students and military personnel during the 1940s. Dormitories were built underneath the east side stands. Approximately 150 men lived there.
