Whilst nothing has been happening at KartSport Taranaki, there has been some member action going on. There has been two rounds of the Superkart Series run, see below for a report from Steve Boyde from Rd 4 at Manfield in July. There has been some Rotax Max Challenge Rounds and even a ProKart Round at Hamilton last weekend. We had Aaron Marr and Nic Isaac racing there, but haven t seen a report from either of these gentlemen? So, here s a report courtesy of Steve Boyde: Four hardy Taranaki racers headed down to Manfield for Round Four of the Superkart drivers series on 1 and 2 July. Logan Boyde and David Cox spent the practice day flogging their KZ2 karts around the wet track and getting dialled in for Sundays racing. Sunday finally arrived after a heavy night of rain with Logan fitting his Rotax Max Light machine with wets and putting it on pole in qualifying by a tiny margin. Peter Cottam collected P4 in his Rotax Max Heavy kart, while Nic Isaac and David Cox put their karts on second and third spots respectively for the first race. Although the rain had stopped, the track remained wet and the first race was run on wets, as the track did not dry at all by H1. Nic claimed a solid second place finish with David following up in third. Peter Cottam picked up a third, while Logan was outpaced at the flag to finish second. Round two saw Nic experience terminal engine problems for the second meeting in a row and he had to sit the rest of the day out in frustration. David also had a DNS in this round. The Taranaki drivers were hoping for something better and Peter held out for a good third spot in Rotax Max Heavy, while Logan was again pipped into second. Round three saw a partial dry line forming, with Logan choosing to remain on wets while others chose to try slicks on the greasy track. Logan s tyre choice ultimately proved correct, claiming his first win of the day. Peter slipped back to fourth while David moved up a slot for a very consistent second place. The final round saw Peter up into fourth again, David with a good second and Logan again squeezed out into second. Next month s meeting is the last before the Nationals in September so the boys will be working hard to squeeze a bit more out of their karts in preparation. Upcoming AGM - Positions Available 1) Race Secretary KartSport Taranaki will not have a race secretary come 1 September We are seeking expressions of interest to fill this role from club members and their families. Details of the current position are published on the club website. If the entire role does not suit your abilities, we are happy to negotiate these roles. Additionally, we are prepared to offer some form of remuneration for this position.

2 KARTSPORT TARANAKI NEWSLETTER Issue55 PAGE 2 2) Committee Role - Media Manager The role of media manager requires a candidate who can attend monthly committee meetings and manage content on KartSport Taranaki s various media channels: - Facebook - Neighbourly - Radio Advertising (liaison with NZME) - Monthly Newsletter The media manager will source content from club members (e.g. photography and race weekend reports) as well as prepare original content. Approximate commitment of 2 hours per week. New Racing Series Entry conditions: You now have the option to enter all 4 rounds at our first round. If you do - you will only pay for 3 rounds - you get 1 free! It's your choice - if you want to pay round by round, that's okay, but this option is available to all entrants at our first round only. Senior entry for all 4 rounds Winter Series - $105 Junior or Mini ROK entry for all 4 rounds of the Winter Series - $90 Cadet ROK entry for all 4 rounds of the Winter Series - $75 NB: There will be no refunds after you compete in the first round if you don't compete in subsequent rounds. One-Day Licenses, Transponder & Pit Shelter Hireage is additional and on a per-round basis. New Points System The club has changed to the more conventional Positive Points system used by most international motorsport categories. There are no longer Penalty Points if you miss a round. You will only receive points if you compete and the competitor with the highest points over the 4 rounds wins the series. You need to compete in all 4 rounds to get maximum aggregate points for the series. Note that with this style of points system, if you don't compete in all 4 rounds, it is unlikely that you will have enough points to be in contention for trophies. The points system to be used is similar to that of the WPKA Goldstar Series (50 points for 1st, 48 for 2nd, 47 for 3rd and so on). Contact Donna Boniface at htbauto@xtra.co.nz Presidents Report - Mike Jury Hi all, Well, it s AGM time again, which means we need to sort our committee for next year. We are still in desperate need of a Race Secretary. All of our calls for someone to fill this role have failed so far, so there is a good chance we will only be able to run fun days from September onwards, which is very disappointing. I find it hard to believe that no one in the club is prepared to help out and do this job. As a club, we need to have volunteers to keep club days happening, not just leave it to the same people to do all the work while others get all the rewards. So, please, have a good think as to whether you can help. On a more positive note, we do have a Club Day this month on Sunday 20 August, which is a week early due to the KartSport New Zealand conference being on the 27th. I need to see you all there, as we will have our AGM before racing begins, so we need a good turnout to achieve a quorum. Please arrive early to get all entries done before the AGM starts. Then we can get into racing which is the Round One of our Winter Series. Hopefully we will have some fine weather by then! I hope to see you all at the track. You should all be keen to race after having a month off see you on the 20th.
